I wouldn't mind a Mass Effect movie, but it would have to be done right. To be honest, I'm with those who think the story should be a new Mass Effect story. And please don't PG-13 this thing. A Mass Effect movie should be every bit as mature as the games.

The odds of it being rated R are literally zero.  I'd bet PG-13, when it's on TNT it'll be PG-TV.

If Sovereign or Harbringer are in it, and as much badass as in the games and they go for a dark sci-fi vibe, this movie could be awesome!!!

but are the games really mature ? it seem pretty pg 13 to me. I've never really understood why it was rated "M". They never say the f word and the only blood is like alien blood.

You get blood splats alien and human from almost every shot, minor language, but i'm sure the game got a big rating from the ESRB because of the 'sexual' content....its the oh so ever touchy topic in gaming regardless of how much was shown.

The likely hood of any Mass Effect movie being rated "R" is very slim. I work in the movie theater industry, and very few features are R (side note: "The King's Speech" was only rated R BECAUSE they used the F-word) because you severely limit your audience pool. That being said, what PG-13 actually means has been stretched quite a bit in the last two decades.

The other issue we run into is, of course, head-cannon if they do the core story. Everyone's Shepard is different, and not just in gender, back ground, or game play, but how we justify the the actions our Shepards take.

Personal Opinions on Who to pick, assuming they do Shepard's story:
Mathew Fox certanly LOOKS like Default M!Shep, but he sounds nothing like him- possible voice over?
Seth Green should play Joker if he's available. . . period.
If a voice-over for Tali is not possible, I nominate Milla Jovovich to play her.
A VERY tan Olivia Wilde as Ashley?
Tom Welling as Kaidan- lots and lots of hair gel later.
With the aliens (Wrex, Garrus, Liara, ect. all), voice is going to be more important than what the people look like, if only because they are going to need to go either CGI or Prosthetic (both please, it looks better for longer that way).
The following actors/celebrities should not come within 1000 yards of this movie: Megan Fox, Angelina Joelie, Nickolas Cage, Christan Bale, or Justin Bieber (this list is by no means all inclusive; there are a lot of first class jerks who only think they can act in Hollywood).
If the movie is in 3D, it better darn well BLOW MY MIND. Most of the 3D work I have seen is sub-par at best, and I'd rather they not bother if it doesn't bring something to the experience, and put that money in the budget. Plus, if they are going to do 3D, read my lips and shoot it native in 3D. Going back with expensive photo-shop looks awful. I point toward last year's "Clash of the Titans" to prove my point or even look at the last "Harry Potter"; they didn't even finish the 3D work in that one, so the whole thing was a waste of resources and time.

In general, Legendary Pictures does VERY good work. Whenever I see their names attached to a project, I tend to give it a lot more weight. Then again, I used to do the same thing with George Lucas.

>.<

. . . I think I just depressed myself.

i like how even fans are coming ups with ways to hate this it isn't like its being forced down your throat besides look at the bright side the people who made the Dark Knight and actual bioware producers are making this. At least its not some fool who thinks he can make video game movies.

The fact that Bioware is actually involved should tell you that efforts will be made to make this as canon as possible. I doubt Shepard will even make a cameo on this, though, due to the highly sensitive nature of his/her existence. They couldn't even do a movie about Shepard before the games because of the diversity in backgrounds you can choose from in the original Mass Effect.

It will most likely cover something we know very little about.

You know, I got this idea about ME television series, that tells story of couple C-Sec employees parallel to the games, and it even has an plot twist regarding bad ending of ME2 (an alternative time line). If the film turn out to be success, I would consider the TV series in position of Bioware executives. (This is little out topic I know, but who here wouldn't have TV-series?)

You guys have to remember. Most people won't even know what Mass Effect is when it starts production. They will have to make a movie where the story can be introduced to everyone, not just the people who read/played the series. It would make a lot of sense to start off with a movie where humanity discovers the Prothean technology on Mars and the Charon Relay near Pluto. I can also imagine the apex of the movie centering around the "First Contact" with the Turians.

I expect Jon Grissom to be a major role in this one. Who knows though, one can only speculate.

This is awesome. Couldn't have fallen upon more great news. A Dragon Age short series coming (they really should do a movie out of Dragon Age too). Have a curious question though Bioware...how can one find info to audition for a role or even be an extra in this as an aspiring actor, if the chances for that haven't passed already? :D

And no I'm not kidding I'm dead serious so any info would be good.

Matthew Fox as Default Shepard?
Actually,I always thought of Dominic Purcell (Lincoln, the older brother from Prison Break).
He could pull off the voice too.

I think it would be a huge mistake to try to make this anything other than a new story. Shepard is a character crafted by the player specifically for the video games. If this does involve Shepard... why couldn't Mark Meer do it? Sure, he doesn't look completely like default Shepard, but give him a buz cut and a few months with a personal trainer and he'd be close enough.

I say use the cannon game as the bases and script from that, sure we have our own view of how it should be but I am man enough to believe my way is the only way. Screw the side mission stuff and maybe show them mining once ,Then cast as many of the voice actors as you can. Some of the Characters look a lot like the VA anyway. At least give them a screen test.

*Points a gun at the Turian Councilor's head.*

If Uwe Boll gets anywhere near this, the Turian Councilor gets it!!!

But seriously, though, Matthew Fox and Dominic Purcell are good choices.  I lean more towards Dominic Purcell myself.

On the other hand, a different story would probably be the best choice.  Either a story lead up to and including the First Contact War, or something set after ME3.  Deal with different cameos, perhaps, but focus primarily on different characters.

An idea of mine would be to do a First Contact War movie, and then skip to post-Reaper Conflict to deal with some of the other conflicts in a Mass Effect series.  Perhaps the Batarians are still an issue.  Maybe Cerberus is messing around more with Reaper tech in order to enslave other races.  Maybe Terra Firma becomes more extremist and less of a political party.

I think that the Mass Effect universe is rich enough that you could tell all sorts of stories, and be able to run a successful TV series with it, if done right.  I would definitely keep it away from Syfy, though.

secure a good director, that respects the original work; then they will need big names to promote ir(actually i dont care about names, im actually more concerned in acting skills and passion doing characters)

3 are easy picks, Keith David as Anderson, Seth Green as Joker, and Yvonne Strahovsky as Miranda(actually share face). Also they should respect some voiceover actors in android-AI characters etc.

You guys shouldn't worry if the actors/actress look like the in game characters because if they do this movie more then likely it'll have people and places we haven't seen before.

Edit: Though it would be cool for it to set up ME3 I feel like it'll probably be those 2 years between me and me2

I hope this turns out well.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but hell I'm a pessimist. If this movie turns out poorly it could be a damning blow to the ME series. That concerns me.

I don't see how it'll be much of a blow to the ME series if the movie isn't good. Bad video game movies come out al the time, and the people who actually buy games know this. Hell, Super Mario Brothers got an awful movie and that franchise is still going strong.

according to IMDb, I believe it's going to be about the first contact war, not Shepard... IMDb's plot summary:
"Mankind discovers ancient alien technology that enables faster than light travel. Using stored coordinates, mankind stumbles on a hostile alien race known as the Turians."

I think that J.J. Abrams would be the best director choice in my opinion

Doubt it. Anyone with an IMDB account can edit pages.

mass effect movie sounds awesome if the game creators are involved. hopefully keeping the story as good as the games. imo it shouldn't follow shepard, too many variables. however starting with the discovery of mass relays and leading into the 1st contact war would be a good place to start both for existing fans and movie goers new to the franchise.
