I wouldn't mind a Mass Effect movie, but it would have to be done right. To be honest, I'm with those who think the story should be a new Mass Effect story. And please don't PG-13 this thing. A Mass Effect movie should be every bit as mature as the games.
The odds of it being rated R are literally zero. I'd bet PG-13, when it's on TNT it'll be PG-TV.

but are the games really mature ? it seem pretty pg 13 to me. I've never really understood why it was rated "M". They never say the f word and the only blood is like alien blood.Foehunter82 wrote...

You get blood splats alien and human from almost every shot, minor language, but i'm sure the game got a big rating from the ESRB because of the 'sexual' content....its the oh so ever touchy topic in gaming regardless of how much was shown.

The other issue we run into is, of course, head-cannon if they do the core story. Everyone's Shepard is different, and not just in gender, back ground, or game play, but how we justify the the actions our Shepards take.
Personal Opinions on Who to pick, assuming they do Shepard's story:
Mathew Fox certanly LOOKS like Default M!Shep, but he sounds nothing like him- possible voice over?
Seth Green should play Joker if he's available. . . period.
If a voice-over for Tali is not possible, I nominate Milla Jovovich to play her.
A VERY tan Olivia Wilde as Ashley?
Tom Welling as Kaidan- lots and lots of hair gel later.
With the aliens (Wrex, Garrus, Liara, ect. all), voice is going to be more important than what the people look like, if only because they are going to need to go either CGI or Prosthetic (both please, it looks better for longer that way).
The following actors/celebrities should not come within 1000 yards of this movie: Megan Fox, Angelina Joelie, Nickolas Cage, Christan Bale, or Justin Bieber (this list is by no means all inclusive; there are a lot of first class jerks who only think they can act in Hollywood).
If the movie is in 3D, it better darn well BLOW MY MIND. Most of the 3D work I have seen is sub-par at best, and I'd rather they not bother if it doesn't bring something to the experience, and put that money in the budget. Plus, if they are going to do 3D, read my lips and shoot it native in 3D. Going back with expensive photo-shop looks awful. I point toward last year's "Clash of the Titans" to prove my point or even look at the last "Harry Potter"; they didn't even finish the 3D work in that one, so the whole thing was a waste of resources and time.
In general, Legendary Pictures does VERY good work. Whenever I see their names attached to a project, I tend to give it a lot more weight. Then again, I used to do the same thing with George Lucas.
>.<
. . . I think I just depressed myself.

It will most likely cover something we know very little about.

I expect Jon Grissom to be a major role in this one. Who knows though, one can only speculate.

Actually,I always thought of Dominic Purcell (Lincoln, the older brother from Prison Break).
He could pull off the voice too.

If Uwe Boll gets anywhere near this, the Turian Councilor gets it!!!
But seriously, though, Matthew Fox and Dominic Purcell are good choices. I lean more towards Dominic Purcell myself.
On the other hand, a different story would probably be the best choice. Either a story lead up to and including the First Contact War, or something set after ME3. Deal with different cameos, perhaps, but focus primarily on different characters.
An idea of mine would be to do a First Contact War movie, and then skip to post-Reaper Conflict to deal with some of the other conflicts in a Mass Effect series. Perhaps the Batarians are still an issue. Maybe Cerberus is messing around more with Reaper tech in order to enslave other races. Maybe Terra Firma becomes more extremist and less of a political party.
I think that the Mass Effect universe is rich enough that you could tell all sorts of stories, and be able to run a successful TV series with it, if done right. I would definitely keep it away from Syfy, though.

3 are easy picks, Keith David as Anderson, Seth Green as Joker, and Yvonne Strahovsky as Miranda(actually share face). Also they should respect some voiceover actors in android-AI characters etc.

Edit: Though it would be cool for it to set up ME3 I feel like it'll probably be those 2 years between me and me2

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but hell I'm a pessimist. If this movie turns out poorly it could be a damning blow to the ME series. That concerns me.

I don't see how it'll be much of a blow to the ME series if the movie isn't good. Bad video game movies come out al the time, and the people who actually buy games know this. Hell, Super Mario Brothers got an awful movie and that franchise is still going strong.

"Mankind discovers ancient alien technology that enables faster than light travel. Using stored coordinates, mankind stumbles on a hostile alien race known as the Turians."
I think that J.J. Abrams would be the best director choice in my opinion

According to IMDb, I believe it's going to be about the first contact war, not Shepard... IMDb's plot summary:

Doubt it. Anyone with an IMDB account can edit pages.
