mass effect movie sounds awesome if the game creators are involved. hopefully keeping the story as good as the games. imo it shouldn't follow shepard, too many variables. however starting with the discovery of mass relays and leading into the 1st contact war would be a good place to start both for existing fans and movie goers new to the franchise.
I agree, I'm really hoping they start from the very beginning, starting
with the finding of the Prothean technology on Mars, then finding and
explaining the Mass Relays, then the start of activating dormant relays,
settling of the first planet, and the First Contact War, the start of
the Systems Alliance, then humans go to the Citadel... then maybe in the
same movie, or wait until the beginning of the next movie have the
Skyllian Blitz, and then introduce Shepard in the thresher maws attack
on Akuze.
Unless you start from the very beginning, the movie audience will
not understand the back-story of how humanity got to where it is.

Hell What Are You Thinking?

How do you think this would work out? Would it be too difficult to make? Because if major decisions carry over, then you're dealing with much more content = high production costs.

I just had an idea, how about making an interactive 3D movie for Mass Effect? At the theater, instead of just handing out 3D glasses, also hand out simple RF remotes. For major decisions such as whether the protagonist should kill a character, the audience gets to decide who dies, who doesn't, etc, just like in the game, and using their individual RF remotes, vote for their choice. The response/solution which gets the most votes then plays on screen, and may carry through the whole movie (if major) or could be just like a renegade interrupt

I don't know about production costs or anything like that, but there was something like that that they experimented with back in the 90s, I think. It didn't seem to catch on very well. It would be cool to see, though. Then, for a DVD release, they could just make it like Scourge of Worlds.

Maybe now, with more user friendly tech than the 90s, an actually good movie premise and that 3D trend, it could work.

I am very pleased this morning to announce that there will be a Mass Effect movie made by the fine folks at Legenday Pictures! I know there has been a lot of speculation amongst our fans ever since Mass Effect 1 came out as to whether or not there would be a movie, who should star in it, who would direct, would there be a Wrex sized bucket of popcorn, etc and I can now reveal that, yes, there will be a movie (popcorn deal is still unconfirmed.
Legendary Pictures, the studio behind great films such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen, The Hangover and 300 have picked up the rights to make Mass Effect. Legendary Pictures will produce with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni along with Avi Arad (who has been behind great films like Iron Man, X-Men and Spider-Man). From BioWare Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuck and Casey Hudson will serve as executive producers.
"At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture,” said Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series. “With Avi Arad and Legendary attached, we believe that the Mass Effect movie will be an extraordinary entertainment event that realizes our vision for the franchise and thrills fans.”
I am super psyched for this and look forward to seeing the Mass Effect movie take shape.
Is it too early to buy tickets?
LOL

no 3-D please!
i second that! 3D sucks anyway. it can't be done well enough. its used as a way to peddle crap films. personally it gives me a headache after an hour, and thats the real d cinema experience let alone the dvd release. unless they make a holographic 3d experience not likely anytime soon they should keep films like mass effect in hd 2d.

That would be better than something about Shepard really. Obviously, whatever Shepard they had un a film would be completely different to the individual that most people know as Shepard.

Personal opinion, that sounds terrible. So if I vote for something that doesn't happen (i.e. I'm out voted) then I have to sit through something I didn't want to watch? Plus the inevitable pause in the movie while the votes are taken, tallied and the correct secquence is played will just pull you out of the experience. Movies are movies and games are games and when I'm watching a movie I'm expecting it to tell me a story. If you wanted this why not just play the game?
I also don't see what the obsession with the first contact war is, theres an attack on some ships, colony gets invaded and liberated, the end. I also think that establishing the Turians as the enemy so early in a franchise would be a barrier to the audience connecting to them in future. The Mass Effect games are perfectly set up to be a movie, actually not a movie but a trilogy, theres a natural progression of the story that would pull moviegoers back in for all three. Of course all this is caveated by Hollywood not coming in thinking they know best and ruining it but as it stands I would be happy with, actually very excited, to see Sheps story played out on the big screen.
Oh and check out IMDB, it's so much fail. The synopsis says first contact war, but says it's starting Matthew Fox as Shepard.

How about making the fans decide thorugh voting what they want?...
Male or Female shapard?
Prequel, game story or post ME3 story.
and so on....
Because I readily admit that I know nothing about making movies, I'll leave it in the hands of professionals thanks.

So my vote is, make a contact war movie and just mention shepard as the blitz hero or the survivor or whatever at the end.Make anderson main character and turians the enemy.
Also noone of the races had idea about the reapers in that timespam, so they shouldn mention them in this movie, that actually is another adversity.
