The best director How bout Peter Jackson, it,s a big action movie with special effects but the personal stories and relationships are just as important, it seems like his kinda thing considering his past work especialy with the lord of the rings trilogy, speaking of do you think mass effect would have to be a triliogy to tell the story , since we dont even know how it ends yet.

JPanzerj If you mention Uwe Boll one more time you will regret it I promise you. What is your issue man why would you want to ruin something like this?... The mentioning of his name makes me want to put my head through a wall[/quote]
I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I wouldn't let him direct debit let alone direct a movie; especially one set in such a well developed and written universe.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread but I doubt anybody has read all of the 2226 pages before so.

Why is everybody only listing actors who look like the default Shepard (male and female)? Why not take a look at ALL actors to play the role of Shepard. Think about it before you argue this, if they pick somebody who doesn't look like one of the default Shepards then the "fanboys" won't be able to cry and complain that the movie is canon and diminishes their Shepard.

Thoughts?

Actually... Doesn't matter who will play Shepard... Because it's a bad idea to make this movie! Remember all the movies based on games. Every movie was a trash. So Cavill, Fox or everyone else is not the point. Mass Effect movie will get 6 out of 10 points movie for the special effects and noone except gamers will watch it.Even me.. Why should I like it..? I play female character..

I wished they made a KOTOR movie but i guess Mass Effect will do, though its kinda redundant as playing Mass Effect beats out a movie experience Imo.

Problem is, making a film after two exceptional games like ME1 & 2 is going to create hugely steep expectations from the fan crowd and, historically at least, no 'game-to-film' has ever succesfully made the transition without becoming niche, mindless pap.

I hope to hell that Mass Effect doesn't fall into that trap. I for one would love to see it as a film - and if I'm honest - I'd like to see the existing game story made as a film. Yes, they could do the first contact wars and stuff later, but I want to see the fight against the Reapers on celluloid. Or digital bits. Or whatever...

Peter Jackon managed to do it with Lord of the Rings - that was one hell of a story that didn't convert well to film (and the first attempt was godawful if anyone remembers the late 70's/early 80's rotoscoped version!) but it just might be possible with ME.

Just not convinced at the moment of the choice of director etc. but that's personal opinion.

Anyone saw this amazing Motorola xoom ad?!?! THIS IS SHEPARD!

Nice ad, and yeah, he looks the part.

though I'd prefer a female Shepard in the movies. I dunno, the games have mark vanderloo as the 'face of mass effect', and you can't get close to his looks with the built-in face editor, but there's no likewise with a female shepard, the default is just an editor combination they decided to use as default. so if anything, I think we fanbase folk would accept any female actor in the role, in contradiction to how picky we're being in who we want for Male Shepard.

And we're all agreed on Seth and Keith for Joker and Anderson. (Though Anderson in the game doesn't look like keith david, who's got, 'a strong jaw' is how I'd describe it.)

this is a good point. female shepard is a much more ambiguous face. she's not entirely custom like the default male shepard is. this would give bioware way more freedom to cast whoever they thought could play the role best, and wouldn't have to restrict the appearance as much as they would with a male shepard.

although bioware has set their standard shepard, which is male, soldier, renegade, and i doubt that they'd deviate from that in the film.

this is kinda why i don't want the film to focus on shepard. i'd prefer much more the story of some alliance soldier during the First Contact War, since for such a critical moment in Mass Effect history, there really isn't that much information on it.

...To be honest, this sounds quite promising. The people lined up to be involved in this project have all done good work in the past. :-)

Is it cynical of me to assume that Shepard will be male in this movie, or is there actually a chance for a female Shepard? Or will the storyline not involve Shepard at all?

Cmdr. Shepard is canonically a male renegade soldier.
It'll be the same for the movie, if he even plays a part.

You wanna know what the Mass Effect movie will be like? Most likely, the director will be a retard like Michael Bay. If not, someone unknown. So the movie will be like 1:30h long and most of it will be just big explosions in space. The protagonist will be someone totally off-character. Expect someone too young or too whimpy to play Shepard. Like Shia Lebouff or someone from the cast of Twilight. Juuust because they are "in". If that fails, it will be Nicholas Cage. The main story, instead of focusing on the Reaper threat or galactic politics or anything from the main ME story, will focus on the hero's struggle to balance his responsabilities and his love for (insert favourite ME love interest). Really. It will be about the relationship of Shepard and whoever. Forget about impending doom, geth and destruction of the galaxy. It'll be about looove. It's all about demographics, you see? How do I know that, you ask?

Because that's the description of 9 out of 10 piece-of-crap fiction movies in the last decade or so...AND the description of almost every game-to-movie. It's either that, or something like Doom...*shivers*... get your paper bags ready, folks.

You want to think I'm being pessimistic. It's alright. It's because we all love Mass Effect, or we wouldn't be here, right? But deep down you know I'm right...you know it. I'm saying this as your fellow ME fan...

Peace.

The reason the mass effect movie has every chance of being a success is that it has a great, epic story behind it. Not too many video game based movies do.. they are just based off of high end concepts focused on gameplay. I'll choose to be positive anyway although might get a bit twitchy if crappy director/cast sign on ;)

I don't think Bioware would choose to follow Shepherd in a movie because this game was meant to be a deeply personal experience from the start. I fully believe if they make a movie chronicling the First Contact war, show some of the alien species, the world beyond earth, the diversity of the galaxy, the movie will generate enough interest in the world to make people who haven't yet played the game want to play it just to return to that world.

100% approval. A First Contact movie would be amazing. It would give fans of the game new and desired information on the IP, and provide a great starting point for people who haven't played the games to get interested and jump in with some knowledge of the universe. I would love it if the movie was about first contact. Awesomesauce.

What!? Making a ME movie without Shepard would be like making Metal Gear without Solid Snake. You might be able to justify the departure but people want epic, aka, people want Shepard. For all the people saying "it's my Shepard," well when you play it's your game, play him how you want. However, on the big screen, it's the writers' turn to have Shepard the way they feel would best fit whatever story they choose. I customized my Shep all the way, and watching my friends play or looking at clips of others' gameplay doesn't/shouldn't take away from my game experience.

If they have someone other than Shepard in the movie, I'm fine with it. If they have Shepard, however, which I'm hopeful for, I'd be much happier; and I hope they make it like ME1 because it sets the story up lovely (I'd love to see Saren and Sovereign on the big screen).

P.S. - Where does all this crap about default Shepard being Renegade come from? I'd love a source for this, because as I see it, Shepard should by default be Paragon.

why not a movie about First contact war, and even the mass effect books they are perfect for a movie.
personaly i wont wach a mass effect movie with commander shepard in it. mainly its the game is almost a movie itself and you make your own story. a movie will be like a locked/restricted versjon of the game, and you not get to control the character
