If I were to guess the gender I say they will use a male due to all poster art for the games being male. I want it to be male but I might be happily surprised.

I have an idea! It shows lots of death and action and shep gets to the control room (battle of the citadel) and when shep has to make a choice a blue screen pops up and says "Vote if shepard should A kill the council B save the council or C shoot herself/himself! Then we can still make decisions as long as everyone agrees with us!SimplePlan2k8 wrote...

i think that mass effect movie is mass effect 1 movie... and it's better because people who doesn't know mass effect universe can understand it through the plot of the first great game...than obviously could follow mass effect 2 and all the other surrounding stories. the movie should be just like the games
I hope not, unless the movie Shep looks like mine and pursues a relationship with Liara. Then all is well. But in all seriousness, setting it during the game takes away that "you make the decision" edge that is one of the special qualities of the franchise. And there were some BIG decisions in ME1

Think on the bright side... If its animated we might get the same voice actors as in the game... I hope.Tweakthenips wrote...
I'm a big fan of Bioware and the Mass Effect franchise and have been since Mass Effect back in 2007 so naturally I was excited when I heard about this, but recently I found out that they have decided to animate the movie instead of getting real actors. This is a really bad idea I mean the Halo movie, the same thing happend to that and what a load that was. If this actually happens I will with out a doubt NOT be watching it and my faith in Bioware and the Mass Effect franchise will be lost!!!!!!!

Funimation can make a silly storyFred Lamirande wrote...
I would really like some clarifications here about this Bioware / FUNimation movie project.
Did Legendary Pictures withdrew from the original ME movie project?
Or is it 2 different projects?
Is it an actual movie? Or a animation series for TV? Or an animation movie perhaps?
I've personnaly never heard of FUNimation (but I don't like Japanese animation series in general so it could explain why) so I'm rather apprehensive of this news. The movie simply won't be what I was hoping it would be, sadly. Don't get me wrong, I realize this is only my opinion and I'm sure a lot of people will find this very entertaining.
A neutral Silly/sad story

A dark story

You know they will most likely use their cannon shep, least thats what i think.nakrato wrote...
I think the the main problem wiht a ME movie, is that there are so many diffrent chioces in the games, and a lot of peolpe have made a lot of diffrent choices. I can see people getting disapointet at the Shepard they see in the movie, becasue their Shepard didn't kill the Racni(just to make an example), I personally feel so strongly about some of the decision that I have made in the game, that seeing Shepard doing the exact oposite would feel wrong. I simply do not think it's possible to make a movie that will satisfy all the ME fans out there, becasue some of them will se a Shepard doing stuff they could never imagine Shepard doing, becasue they are used to own shepard.
But for know I'm trying to remain positive, hopefully it'll be a good movie anyway:)

Anime would not be my first choice either, but I would not care either way.Persason wrote...
AN ANIME?! Bioware you gotta be joking?! So you are producing an anime with fun animation oh god....
A movie would be great with real actors, not a damn anime?!
Don't you see the potential in this? Of course its going to be an expensive movie but hype it and advertise it enough and in the end you will have the sucess of Avatar.... (thats theoretical)

already any movie is always an adaptation, where they merge stories, characters, events and skip entire important parts to cram the whole thing into a 90min wide ( read dumb ) audience thing.
an animation is adding insult to injury ..
boo . *sulks* ...lol

In a recent statement, Electronic Arts announced that BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect, has inked a deal with Japanese animation studio FUNimation to develop a feature length animated Mass Effect movie. No word on where in the storyline the movie will fall, if at all, but production has begun, and the project is slated for release in the summer of 2012, after the third installation of the game series has been released.
nothing more to say....

When a videogame franchise is successful, especially one with a world as sprawling and epic as Mass Effect, one of the first things considered is a film adaptation. Speculation has abounded about the possibility of a Mass Effect movie, with last word being that Lionsgate had acquired the film rights and the project was greenlit but still in development stages.

Just for the record: FUNimation is an american company, founded by someone born in Japan, but raised in America.

Christian Bale as Shepard!!
I have been thinking that multiple times as well and I honestly would find it fantastic because I'm a big fan of Bale. BUT I don't think there should be a movie about Shepard (nor probably will there ever be), because there isn't one Shepard. Even with the canon in mind, Shepard could still be from a descent nice, introverted guy, to an all-out egotistical **** (and anything else thinkable). Shepard is what gamers made him out to be and there for different to a lot of people. I think Bioware shouldn't touch that experience (even if 'my' version of Shepard were there chosen one).

Anime lowers the viewer's IQ. True story.
It's a shame that the series is having it's standard reduced to a minimum when being presented as a cartoon. And don't say that anime is more mature... just because it shows blood, characters cursing, having swinging breasts and buxom women every 5 minutes, with all the voice acting of a robot, does not make it any more mature or indepth.
What anime have you been watching?
On topic: Is the ME movie and the anime adaptation really the same thing? I thought they were different projects.

I don't think so. There is no canon in Mass Effect when it comes to choices. The devs have said this many times. As far as I'm concerned, watching a ME movie set during ME1 should be no different than watching someone else's playthrough (execpt better, hopefully).

That siad, I wanted to tell you Bioware (and this is the only spot I could find for "general" feedback about ME.) you have done a stand up job with the ME series. You've raised the bar. These days I find I want it all when I go to buy a game: choices that actually mean something to the plot--not those fake choices that get overridden; character customization; quality story; quality graphics; great combat and gameplay; well rounded support characters that actually kick butt! You know how hard it is to find all these traits in one game?
So, hats off to you, Bioware team. I appreciate the hard work that obviously went into the games. You can always tell the difference. I didn't know anything about ME until quite recently. A guy at my local gamestop (not a plug, just the truth)told me about it. At first I thought, "Oh, no..I don't really want a shooter game." But he just grinned and told me I need to try it out. I could always bring it back. Well, that was the end of the story. I'm hooked.
Only question now is, what am I going to do after ME3? I hope you keep your team together because there's Kismet there. I'm really liking the sci fi rpg thing. So sick of fantasy and medieval type settings.

We laugh now... but people actually tried this kind of movie theater experience in the 90s. Careful what you wish for

What are you all seriously expecting? Underage asari schoolgirls spending twenty minutes trying to figure out the correct way to eat japanese confectionaries? A teenage Shepard with spikey hair that has "The Ultimate Biotic Power" and spends a majority of his time charging up his attacks while sounding constipated? This is Mass Effect here, I really don't know what some of think is gonna happen with an animated movie.
Also, it sounds like there's going to be an anime movie in addition to a live action one. So if some of you really are opposed to the anime movie, there's always that going for you.
I'm personally looking forward to both, for the animated I'm hoping for a Animatrix/Halo Legends take on the series, showing off little side stories like Garrus' time on Omega or Thane and his family. I honestly don't care what the live action one is about, just as long as it's good, it could be a 300+ hour long documentary on elcor politics and I will happy.
This wasn't directed at anyone particular, I just saw some griping and felt I should say something.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. For the Mass Effect movie, I don't think anyone here should care if they set it within Shepard's story. This isn't your Shepard - this is one of the countless other Shepards that live in alternate universes. They would be showing one version of the story, and I honestly think it's quite selfish that ANY of you don't want the movie to be not only good, but the first GOOD videogame movie. This goes beyond Mass Effect. Videogames are often disregarded, like animation, for their appeal to younger audiences - the fact that there's a chance to bewilder and entertain older audiences is something that, as a gamer, I support greatly. So what if Shepard isn't a female character? So what if Shepard romances Ashley and leaves Kaidan on Virmire? So what if Shepard lets the Rachni die and lets the Destiny Ascension be rescued? You're all too obsessed with your own personal idea of Shepard that you forget that there are other people with their own version of Shepard as well.
