its not about shep and crew, its about the Contact War, which gies them much more artistic freedom and not nearly as high expectations and critisim from the game fanatics. ME is also a space opera. those are generaally amazing games but  bad movies =/

OMG where did you hear this? Thank GOD. Transforming the games into a movie would be pointless, redundant, and bound to dissapoint, even if done perfectly, due to the fact that the games' stories are open and crafted to the players preference, even down to the leading role.

If this is true, it's exactly what I had hoped for. Is there a link you could provide to an article conforming this?

I'm not sure I would bother see a First Contact War movie, let alone the general populace which would provide most of the ticket cash...

Is it me, or would the graphics from the ME3 trailer make an awesome movie? Even the graphics from wait-for-it cinematic at the "start" screen, hell.

If this is true, I am suddenly VERY excited about the movie. Much better than if they used Shepard, and this way if people bought the video games they'd have the chance to not be spoiled by the movie as to what happens.

Thank God it won't be just a lame, less satisfying, non-interactive big-screen rehash of the plot we already know, but an expansion of the ME universe/lore.

Hmm, you know, if this is true, the movie might actually be somewhat watchable. But I will remain skeptical, because the only watchable video game movie I have ever seen so far is DOOM. And yes, I know the movie can be summarized with *oh crap monsters shootshootshoot omfg! BFG awesomecakes!!!* but hey, that is about as close to the games as you can get.

I think the best thing they can do with ME is to stay as far away from the game storyline as possible. That way, the movie might actually turn out to be... good? Can you use that word when talking about a video game movie?

BIGGEST FACEPALM IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

Jesus, BioWare, what the heck. ME doesn't need a movie, it already is one for christ's sakes. Cash cows.

Yes.

Edit: OTOH, ME could be pretty well done if it was in the vein of, say, The Fifth Element. That might just work.

Agreed in hoping that Shepard is not the main character of the movie. The ME universe is rich with story-worthiness, let the things that are set in stone (like events before ME1) be what the movies are based on. Humans fighting aliens, Rachni going all but extinct, Salarians creating the genophage, etc. etc.

I will be skeptical as video games movies never turn out well, but I will be loyal to Mass Effect and will purchase a ticket and let the movie affect my opinion as opposed to a teaser paragraph about said movie.

Yeah First Contact War sounds good, but what will the climax be? Big space battle sequences and then the council shows up and says "okay, stop" roll credits?

I've said it before, a First Contact movie would be awesome. I really hope it turns out that's what they're actually doing.
Can't wait to watch this unfold.

that good if they are making about the first contact war because then its them that decide what happens and we can't say they ruined the games. they just have to make sure that ashleys grand father surrenders and the turian and ships look right.

I don't mind the movie being about ME1 story with Shepard, I think it will be cool to see the gang and characters on the big screen in epic action scenes and state of the art graphics.

Having said that, I also think that a movie about Shepard's early life (default from the game) would be cool, to see how he grew up on Earth, early military service and Akuze, and basically what lead to the starting point of the game(s).

First contact war doesn't make it for me.

Yep. Besides, there are enough Humans VS Aliens movies, and you can bet you'd hardly see anything but humans and some Turians in it. I want to see all of the races and places that are a part of ME, not Mars and random characters that don't have anything to do with the current situation.

This will either be amazing, or will completely ruin the Mass Effect universe.

Probably. Most game-movies aren't that good, but there are some exceptions I guess. Regardless of what the movie gets from the critics or people, I'll watch it anyway eventually.

It sounds like we all need to get a life. first contact wars to now would be good or a 3or 4 part movie. if not do it in the cartoon.

I'm not sure if this would be a step in the right direction, or even satisfying for fans needs, but... what about a movie in ancient history? ...Protheans, anyone? Reapers?? Sorry but ever since I talked to Soverign on Virmire, I have been in love with and haunted by the Reapers... they're so scary, cold, mysterious, dark... its amazing. That's what makes Mass Effect so great, the threat of the Reapers and the fact that they are a senscient, mysterious race that comes from the dark of outerspace and exterminates all civilization at their height.. it's weird, unnerving, and when put into action comepletly haunting.

Of course, this could be done with humans and the other races... but that's what the games are for... and so, no...

In all likelihood that's how it would play out, but in my opinion the council showing up should not be the final scene leading into the credits.  Rather, I would like to see a closing scene on the citadel with a main character delivering a monologue reflecting on the significance of being introduced to a wider galactic community.  However, I think it would be vital to establish that the character of humanity is unchanged.  In conclusion, I think a possible order of events prior to the credits is:

Big space battle sequence

Council Arrives

The trial of General Williams

Monologue on the Citadel - Maybe as the monologue is going the camera could pan through the presidium towards the tower of the council, up the tower and then into the council chambers where humanity is being granted an embassy by the council.

In my opinion, i think Duncan Jones would be a great choice. He is the director of Moon and Source Code. He is still a fresh and new director with great potential.

But what does make it plausible is that:

1) He confirmed his next movie will be Sci-Fi
2) He is a hardcore gamer
3) He worked with Clint Mansell on Moon and CM is doing the music score for ME3.
4) Every other big director like Ridley Scott, Neil Blomkamp and JJ Abrams already started working on their own Sci-Fi/Space movies (Prometheus, Elysium, Star Trek 2?)

Since its already one year ago Bioware made the announcement and Duncan Jones just finished Source Code it would be really plausible that Duncan Jones will be the next Director Of Mass Effect Movie.

a first contact war movie would be awesome. it could be full of back story but not spoilers to current characters so when you see them in game everything just seems to click even more....i can see the ending now...a silhouette of Shepard followed by a one liner eluding to the plot of the ME games lol

I'm glad to hear it won't be a movie featuring Shepard. If the movie was actually about Shepard and followed the movie there would be some actual 'cannon' to the choices in the game, for example: Shepard is a man who is paragon and romances Liara. That's not my Shepard, my Shepard is a paragon woman who lost her LI Kaiden in Virmire.

Oh. It's FCW.

Well, I expected it to suck in the back of my mind anyways. If it's miraculously done very well, maybe they'd consider another (unlikely). And if it blows, at least it won't sting as badly. Gotta stay positive.

Edit: Actually, it's going to feature humans and likely have little input from Turians or other species besides fight-scenes. Hell, considering who's in charge of the movie, they probably won't even conclude it with the Council's intervention.
