When was it said that it was about the First Contact War? (I have not read through all of the posts.)

I googled ME movie, and there was a post on a movie site about it. Mainly saying how they thought it was foreshadowing that they would do a bad job with the movie, gratuitous amounts of action, and they chose FCW rather than ME1 so they wouldn't be committed to a trilogy. There's a link in there somewhere, though I figured enough in this thread had confirmed it that I needn't bother.

If it turns out to be an awesome movie, I'll eat my words, and just feel dissapointed that it wasn't ME1. Still, it erks me that we won't be seeing any references to characters, except the great grandfather or w/e of my least favourite squadmate...

You can read the plot with IMDB Pro.

Btw, Duncan Jones doesnt seem to be working on Mass Effect. He will be doing a sci-fi movie but it will be more Blade Runner style.

Mass Effect is a risky franchise. With the First Contact War they can test the market and see if people like the concept of Mass Effect. If its a succes then i am sure Hollywood or HBo would want to invest more money in to the franchise to make more movies or a tv-serie.

Btw i am not afraid this movie will disappoint. We are talking about Legendary Pictures and Thomas Tull. Both have produced great movies with great quality. Especially when you read that Thomas Tull is a big sci-fi fan (Star Trek).

The movie starts to sound more and more like a direct-to-dvd mediocre film only fans will see, released as premium content for the sake of ME3 merchandise. Just like Dead Space movies.

the whole case started like a huge flicj, and each month it was smaller.

Edit: not relevant, forgot, that the anime and feature film are two distinct things.

In my opinion an excellent plot choice.
It's interesting, and they can do pretty much anything they want as long as they don't contradict the major points; find eezo on mars, find the charon relay etc. And this won't change the experience of the games much either. But it would've been better if it wasn't animated I think.

I don't have the time to go through 240 pages, so let me just ask: any ideas on who is going to star this film? I think it's unlikely they'll just pick a complete random character.

Damn, is it so hard to understand that there will be 2 MOVIES. One live-action and one anime.

Unfortunately, as stated in a earlier post, at LEAST one of these will probably go straight to DVD =\\

Although I share some disappointment with DoNotIngest that the movie will not be based on ME1, this decision is probably for the best. Most fans would cry foul if any movie (anime or live action) was based on the video game series because it contradicts Mass Effect's purpose -- that is, each individual player decides how to play Mass Effect; and although every player has a different story, all these differences are valid. A Mass Effect movie would have to hold a specific interpretation of not only Shepard (for instance, the writers would have to decide whether Shepard is male or female), but also the major events of the story (whether the Council lives or dies).

Making the movie about the First Contact War might be cheesy and loaded with retroactive continuity errors though. But I'll wait and see.

I just want Christopher Nolan to take this project and turn it into greatness, Nolan is the only choice.

Hey, this is indeed great news.

Will FemShep be featured, please? I say we let FemShep and ManShep appear simultaneously in the movie, she plays renegade, he plays paragon, and they encounter in the story.

That'll pull the trigger to get a huge swarm of fans on Premiere Day:police:

This will be ****, no matter what.

We live in a mediocre, nonsense, old society which still resides on a monetary system. Everything that is made, is made for quantity and profit not for quality and likeability.

First Contact War is an excellent choice. Starship Troopers-ish.

It's probably going to be in 3D, most action/sci-fi/fantasy movies are, yeah, so it's best to count with it.
Also, I love the idea of making a poll with alternatives of storyline and so on. It would give BioWare a perfect picture of what we want, the fans, their goldmine :P

So the first Mass Effect Film is about The First Contact War eh? I don't know if any of the actors have been cast yet, but they would be wise to cast Luke Evans of Immortals as the leading male actor.Even though I've only seen this fellow in the trailers of the film that shall be released 11/11/11 and in an interview from WonderCon 2011 alongside Henry Cavill...

I got the strong sense that he is a fine actor and is going to be a household name very soon  He is incredibly photogenic and his screen presense is remarkable, in the film and in the interview. Here's the link www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi1677958425/

I think a Mass Effect film about the first contact war is an interesting direction to go. It will hopefully fit in with the continuity of the ME game trilogy and as a ME fan the first contact war is something i'd like to see. The problem with making a film based on Saren and the Reapers is that the games are so huge with content that a film would never live up to it not to mention they would have to commit to a trilogy to even come close to telling the story intended. But given the history of video games converted to film I'm not really expecting anything special but in any case I wish Bioware all the best in making this happen and if it does end up on the cinema I'll be one of the first to get a ticket. I just hope Uwe Boll don't end up making it because he will kill it along with the rest of the franchise.

Nothing about Mass Effect's story has been set in stone nor released. It is al just rumor and mass speculation. IMDB is known to have put the wrong things up for movies before. Also, until movies start filming they can have their scripts tossed, revised, or completely rewritten. There has not been any mention of a finalized script, story, cast, director, producer or company as far as I am aware of.

the producers are Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni of Legendary Pictures with Avi Arad and his son be a couple of the directors. this was said in the op. as far as the storyline goes there is absolutely nothing confirmed yet but it is assumed that it WILL NOT be about the trilogy. the FCW that everyone talks about is what a user at IMDB put up as the plot and is not even close to being official as IMDB is basicly a wiki for movies until the info for a movie is released by the production company or directors at which point IMDB posts the info.
