Commander Shephard might not even be the main hero. I'm interested in seeing what approach the film makers take, as long as they don't make CG Krogans, LOL!

Mass Effect movie about male Shepard, but not about either ME1 nor ME2!
Strange. An article on IGN.com said the movie will be based off the first game.

I hoping they find a real good Director. Cuaron or Aronofsky would do great in this universe.
As for Shepard. I still want Hardy for the role.
Last, I think Reznor should be hired to score this film.
They really are going to need solid Talents behind this, I'm hoping for the above.

I would love for that to be the case but instead we will get a generic story with the humans fighting the EVIL! Turians and their leader Saren Arterius.

1. No.
2. Don't even think about it.
The ME universe is very rich and thought out, and the film should show us aspects of said universe that the games don't cover or barely allude to. And if anyone involved in the film insists otherwise, then they need to be fired, no matter how "talented" they may be. They need to be going for Red Faction: Origins, not Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Those who play the game will have very little incentive to see a film remake of a game they own. The more vital non-gamer crowd needs to be convinced that this isn't Doom or HALO. And throwing throwing as many CG alien FX than they can shake a stick at isn't going to reel them in either; remember Green Lantern?
It would be better for the film to not feature Shepard, especially since ME is supposed to continue without him. But Shepard enlisted 10 years before ME1, and the various psychological profile backstories took place 5 years before the game. So there's still the potential to utilize that fertile territory between ME: Revelations and ME1 for a viable stand-alone movie.
The villain should be Eliza (Alliance AI illegally created on Gararin Station) or batarians. Even a human shyster could work if he was played by an actor who could knock the role out of the park (and had Blue Suns backing him up). People forget in the first Iron Man, the bad guys were terrorists and a...well, shyster, and that Peter Cushing was the villain of the first Star Wars (Vader was his Rottweiller).

A: Commercial Shepard is male
B: More than 4/5 of the player characters are also male.
I'm more interested in the "Who shall they cast as Shepard?" debate. As soon as someone comes up with a whinebag like that Lebuff or Labuff or whatever the name is, I start hiring krogan enforcers to tear the whole setting down.

This makes me personally, not wanting to see the movie.
Everyone knows how there never been a "good" video game to movie adaption, so I really had my hopes up for this one being the first good one, but a decision as not casting Seth Green as Joker is just a big red warning sign for me. I'm not saying I most defiantly wont see it, I'm just saying that this lowered my expectations and in the end I might pass it up.

Well they can live without my money then, cause my Shepard is female and I'm honestly sick of hearing about that stat. Yes a femshep, who wasn't marketed or mentioned at all had 20% players. Of course, that doesn't consider that people may have played both characters at one point.
That's not the only problem though. I think making a movie about a game that's built around player's choices is a terrible idea. But if their idea is to change the whole story behind Shepard in the first game, well have you seen the crap Hollywood has put out lately? I think I'll pass.

I'm having a debate with a friend on Facebook over this. He says they have to do this so they don't alienate the masses of fans. They have to base it around Shepard because that's what people know about Mass Effect. Unless you're George Lucas with the Clone Wars animated film, your goal in making a film isn't to capture just the fans of the original material. Mass Effect should bring in new fans, and expand this universe. This is ridiculous, and makes me honestly sad that they would decide to make the film revolve around Commander Shepard. They said exactly this wouldn't happen. Their fans have asked them for this specifically not to happen. I don't want an Earthborn Sole-Survivor Soldier Shepard. I don't want any Shepard on the big screen. Make references if you must. Use characters from the series if you must (go ahead and canonise things like Tali or Garrus not dying if you want, but leave Sheppard herself alone). This almost tells me they aren't creative enough anymore to come up with a new story.
Yeah, thats what I seem to remember as well. It honestly saddens me because I love this series so much and it makes me feel like I'm not important because I play as Femshep.

Commercial Shepard is lily white, too, but I haven't seen anyone here say anything along the lines "I'm sick of seeing that white guy hogging all the promos, my Shepard's black, dammit."
