I've sometimes thought that one reason that films based on games fail so miserably is that there's not enough material. ME has a significant well-created universe with enough depth to it that that shouldn't be a problem, so I'm joining in with those upset at using the first game when there are hundreds of new stories just waiting to be told (and the other reasons are good too - it'll be too much like watching someone else playing ME, interesting as it is it's not your Shepard that you're seeing).

In my open, I'd rather see the first contact war, as someone has earlier suggested. But, at the same time, I couldn't help but, think I'd like to see the beginning of the end for the Qurains.
Yet I would be very interested in seeing what as said above the first contact war and humans discovering the mass releys. Image IPB just because that hasnt been explored (if it was in the books please excuse me as I havent gotten around to reading them yet)
I'd very much like to see that. One race I'm very curious about is the geth in all honestly, and I'd love to see more about them. I don't know what is about their metal bodies, that I love so much.

Books? I didn't know they was books... Looks like a trip to HMV or Amazon.co.uk. =)

First Contact war would be the best choice. By far.

I would by far prefer a movie on the demise of the Protheans:
- It would give us a bit of background story without messing up the stories/versions we each took so long to create by playing ME 1 and ME 2.
- Additionally, if they were to create a movie based on Shepard, they would through such actions force upon the character gender, appearance, and specialization, which, IMHO, defeats the purpose of the game. If they wanted that, they could have just created a game very loosely based on one of Blizzard's games (Starcraft or Warcraft or any other such games) just like Blizzard did with WOW (World of Warcraft), basing it on DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot), only the Blizzard version of the game is nowhere near as good as the original.
No, to create a good Mass Effet movie at this point, I do not believe anything about Shepard should be mentioned lest it contradicts any actions the players could have taken in their game.
So yes, I agree with Monkeyflinger about the movie on the demise of the Protheans, but would rather not see a movie created on any of Shepard's missions.

They probably will make it about Shepard. I don't think they'd make the movie just to please the fans, but to bring in more fans by pleasing a wider audience. More fans, more people to buy ME merchandise, more profit.

People who aren't fans won't care whether it's about Shepard or not, and a lot who are are going to be irritated by a different Shepard from their own. It doesn't really make much sense any way you look at it. The only good side I can see to a first game based film is more background with the other party members and interaction between them (I would like to see more of how they react with each other).

Why not just use Mark Vanderloo and have Mark Meer do dubbing?

That's still all the FemShep fans out, the custom Shep fans out (I'm vain enough to try to make him look like myself), the Renegade fans out if he plays as Paragon, the Paragon fans out if he ends up Renegade and so on.

I don't think they should involve Shepard at all, the novels avoided Shepard because choice is such a big part of the game's story arc. I'm pretty sure It'll be about the First Contact War or something like that, maybe after the Reaper threat even.

Totally agree! but I have a feeling they will... and probably fail at it. Come on, sure they can mention Shepard, as "Shepard" no battle between male vs female then and don't go anywhere near the choices (e.g. if the council lived or not) then I'll be okay. Of course, the mention Shepard is only if movie set after Shepard's Arc. If they do something before that! Even better! I doubt they'll listen to what we think though...

If there is a movie, it will go something like this...

Shepard: Will be male (Shepard is always protrayed as male on the VG covers and posters). He will be played by someone who looks like Mark Vanderloo (or use him with either overdubbing or speech therapy)... That's IF it's live action, they could go CGI (probably a better option TBQH). He won't be an ass (Renegade) Hero's are not asses in movies. It'll follow the game's main plot line tightly (No side/loyalty missions unless they want a movie that's 8 hours in length. Sounds good in theory but after the 5th hour it will become boring, games are interactive, we WANT them to be longer, movies are not, so we don't). There will be a romance of course, but it won't be with a non-human character (Poor Tali, she is quite sweet). Bioware, if they appoint a developer/studio liason with balls, will have some say of the development of the movie.

If it's going to be a success, there should be three simple rules.

1) Bioware develops the game script into a screenplay and submit it to the studio's as a final draft.

2) They choose a director with some experience of playing the game, and someone who loves it. Preferably an unknown.

3) Seth Green portrays Joker... 'NUFF SAID!

TBH, I'm not too keen on ME becoming a movie. It's better as a game. I wish them luck with it and if and when it comes out, I shall pay money to see it. But unless it's amazingly written, acted, directed and not just a Michael Bay-esque explosion and camera-shake fest, then I'll leave the theatre shaking my head....

I've read online that it's based on all the mass effect games, don't know whether it's true though.

Very true for ME the game but an film using the ME universe but not based on the game (doesn't need to even be based on anything mentioned in the games) could be great.

Who cares? They use Vanderloo/Meer for the cover art and trailers. He's the CanonShep

I might get some disagreements. If they make a movie about Mass Effect, it should be about the first contact war. Something not involving the games at all and filling in some of the back story. Movies about the books would work too.. just leave the game story alone.

I'd want the movie to just stay away from the Shepard story plot, would be cool to have a movie where it explained how each character became a candidate for Shepard's team though, in some kind of trippy or messed up way (such as being all planned by someone like the illusive man or hell, maybe even the reapers...might get too close to ME story plot though :/) So excited to see this though ^-^

Who cares? Most players. It's not as if they're going (probably) going to be the ones in the film either. And one thing I don't care for is the idea of a CanonShep. It's a game with choices, so all a film could ever do is match one particular set of choices out of many, all equally valid. It would be like the film of a book, but even more removed from it due to the variety of choice. That doesn't mean it would be bad, but an interesting sideshow at best that doesn't have any effect on the world of the books (e.g. the Lord of the Rings films don't add anything to Middle Earth, even if they're worth watching). A different film in the ME universe, though, would be able to add something genuinely new and become an integral part of that universe.

I want an animated movie about Garrus in the 2 year gap while Shepard was "dead". If I'm not mistaken though I heard they may make a game with garrus as the main star seeing as they want to continue ME after ME3.
