Hmm...how's this for a movie trilogy?

1. Discovery (of Prothean ruins in Mars, which leads to humans developing Mass Effect technology)
2. First Contact War
3. Revelation

I'm just curious how many fans are actually interested/excited about this movie project.

^^ That would work. I think many ME fans like myself would love to see just how it all started.

Have you seen the movie "Sphere"? I bet a plot like that would really fit the discovery of Prothean ruins and Element Zero. Except, of course, the setting would be in Mars, not deep in the earth's ocean. ^_^

Guys, I searched the whole net for an up to date forum with the movie news and found none but this one. So please, let´s keep this topic alive.

At least we have a release date..... But I think after all ME3 boom, the movie news will start to appear!

A release date? Please enlighten me!

Late to the party in this thread, I'm sure many of us have laid down casting wishes...

MaleShep:

Jim Caviezel (for an older, more authoritive Shepard. Look at Outlander, the visual is good)
Dominic Purcell (for the almost literal visual translation)

FemShep:

Gillian Anderson (ditto the reason made for Caviezel)
Kate Mara (I think she'd do the younger, redheaded default FemShep justice)

Not interested. I love Mass Effect, but I never have (and likely never will) support movies about video games. I'm pretty heavily against books being made into movies (or video games) as well. Hell, I was a major fan of GRRM's first three Ice and Fire books, but I refuse to watch the HBO adaption, despite hearing great reviews.

My biggest problem with a movie is that, should it star Shepard, it will not be MY Shepard. Unless he acts exactly as I would have during the games, it just won't feel right.

It's ok, I just thought that I missed something... :) I want this (probably these)  movie(s) to happen, so baaaaad! Me and my friends are eager to see some ME on the silver screen... one of my friends noted that we shouldn't buy tickets for the premier (one single screening sometime late at night in my country) 'cause after we watched the movie we would want to buy another one for the very next screening instantly.... soooo true (I hope that it will live up to the quality of the saga).

Though I remember seeing this post a year ago, I never participated in active discussion, so I am extremely late the party as well.
I like your choice in MaleSheps, very strong. However, I think Gina Carano would be an excellent FemShep. She has a great action movie already under her belt, which she did greatly in, and looks a lot like most people's Sheps, including mine.

So true. Hehehehe

And for me, the movie needs to have that epic scope sci-fi atmosphere.

Well, according to an article it will be male Shepard's story. I hope it will be a sequel to the saga. I don't want them to touch the story of the games, because it is perfect as it is (assuming that ME3 will be a masterpiece of a game and story  too).

Yep...found it. According to this article:

This is actually happening? God dammit, why?! Mass Effect doesn't need a movie about Shepard, we have three amazing games for that. Besides, we're able to do so much more stuff in the games than could possibly be done in a movie, making it completely unnecessary.

I have nothing against a movie so long as it's not about Shepard. Set it during the First Contact War or something. Just don't mess with the trilogy.

I totally agree. I think Bioware should instead make a movie that will make us (fans) want to replay the games and newcomers to get curious about the games.

I think many fans will dislike the film. Because I think it will be the Shepard´s story with a lot of new things. And movies, in the first place, are made for a new audience. From a book, play or game adaptation.

The gamers will always have their copies.

Jellobell, I totally agree. Why make a movie when we already have the games? A movie would be some sort of downgraded game... But I admit, a first contact war movie could be great.

Mass Effect anime?

"Fukunaga says FUNimation’s next game to movie project will be a Mass Effect anime movie. The Sci-Fi game Mass Effect is also part of the BioWare franchise."

Let's just hope Bioware and Legendary Pictures change their minds and NOT make a movie about Shepard. If they insist, though, I think Sam Worthington (Terminator: Salvation, Avatar, Clash of the Titans) would be good for the role.

 Great news, everyone!

I found this in the Mass Effect article in wikipedia:

Red Sand[/i] (2012) is a fan film that serves as a prequel to the Mass Effect[/i] series. It is set 35 years before the plot of the games and tells the story of the discovery of the ancient Prothean ruins of Mars. The film stars Mark Meer, voice of the male version of Commander Shepard in the games, as Colonel Jon Grissom. It was produced by the students and faculty of the Digital Video Program at theUniversity of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona.

I just hope Bioware follows this example, and not make a movie about Shepard.

I am excited for this - as long as it is done well (And I am rather critical about adaptations of games).
I'm hopeful that the film will be done well considering Avi Arad has worked on some great films AND BioWare is involved. I personally believe that part of the reason film adaptations of video games fails is because the original creators have no - or very little - say in the adaptation. Hopefully, with three BioWare individuals serving as executive producers, they'll produce a film that pleases fans (I'm sure there will be a handful who complain, but handled right and that number will be small).

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'm guessing Commader Shepard will be male simply because that is the standard for almost all previous promotional material (Artwork, commercials, figures, etc.) and feels like cannon.

If they do make it a Shepard movie it should be FEMSHEP, not Sheploo, in the role. I've always hated Mark Meers Voice Acting, and it has permanently rendered him a retarded sheepdog in my mind. Jennifer Hale's VA, however, actually makes FemShep seem human and just, well, more interesing imo. Granted I am female, but I would be very disappointed if Shepard turned out to be male: we already have too many films about idiotic jarheads doing **** to save ****.

I am very glad that Bioware is involved, and i am hoping that the adaption will be handled a lot better than video game movie adaptions have been done in the past. None of us want to see Mass Effect turned into another Silent Hill or Resident Evil or Bloodrayne.

I´m one of those guys that thinks that a First Contact War movie would be a lost oportunity. As good as it could be it would be a alien invasion movie, and the market every now and then spits one of those out.

And one based on the books is as unnecessary until you lay the foundations with the main trilogy.

But a movie based on the games, I honestly don´t see many of those. A world where the galaxy has been wide open. Dozens of races of aliens, almost  as many politic organizations/factions. Strong solid backstory betwenn factions. This is the kind of stuff tthat Stars Wars and Star Trek touched upon, but never in such complex form.

Yeah this has great potential to to be a royal screw up, but a part of me thinks that this could be incredible.

The only thing that I want to know is the level of involvment on Bioware´s end. Thor was a great comic book adaptation because Marvel was on top of their property. I hope that Bioware has nice level of input.

THIS.  (taken out of context, but describes what im thinking atm very well)

id also like to say that the hole fight between male and female shepard for me is kinda void.
there is no other choice than male shepard when making a movie that is going to apeal to the general public.
i think people are to subjective in there approach to the movie when demanding a female lead.
