In regards to the male/female Shepard, it will most likely be male with a paragon-type attitude (Think every advertisement ever made for the games. Most of them primarily consist of this).

As for plot, if they absolutely insist on putting the focus on Shepard, they should draw up a chart with all of the personality traits (Sole Survivor, Ruthless, War Hero) and background traits (Spacer, Earthborn, Colonist) and throw 2 darts (while blindfolded) at them. Wherever the darts hit is the plot for the story. For example: Shepard grew up in the harshness of the early colonies (Colonist) and exerted himself as a leader through strength (Ruthless).

I don't think a mass effect movie would be based on Shepard and his/her friends. It would most likely an entirely different story that hasn't been told yet. The only Mass Effect movie coming out that I know of is

My only issue with Legendary and probably BioWare (depending on how much input they have with the film) is the firm stance that they are making Shepard a male. You should be able to write the script ambiguously and then do a Shepard search with actors and actress getting courted... letting the best audition take the role.

I understand what you're implying, at least I think so. In that light knowing the story shouldn't necessarily be any more of a dramatic damper over any other adaptation. eg. Harry Potter books to film

I keep thinking if there's one game that might succeed as a movie, that Mass Effect would be it. Though, I'm a bit wary as I've yet to see a good movie that's based on a game.

But okay, if someone casts Sarah Shahi as Ashley Williams, then I'm sold.

If they are planning to make a movie, I wonder what class best depict John Shepard's character? I believe they should explore this question first then move on to the next thing.

I cant beleive they're basing it on the games, absolutly appalled!! They should have done first contact war... As much as I love everything mass effect I will not be watching this movie.. Way to destroy the validity of our Shepards bioware.............................

Agreed. Bioware have made some rather suspect decisions of late....

3. David Anderson (based on the novel Revelation)

I think Bioware should just go with an animated movie the advantages of this it can make a strong maintaining, consistency between the movie and the games for fans e.g. by using the same animated looks of characters and allowing us to hear the awesome voice actors from the games

when i saw this topic, my first though was: O Gods, please, please, please let it NOT be directed by Uwe Boll  (as all modern game to movie conversions). Yeah, call me rejudiced, but i can safely assume, that I being totally stoned by alcohol still could make better movie, and that is even in MSpaint
