Look at what Christopher Nolan did for Batman, and at what J.J. Abrahams did for Star Trek. Wonders! Entertaining but also intelligent content, good creative choices, solid cast and great character development.

I agree! Christopher Nolan or J.J. Abrahams would be excellent choices for directing the movie.

On the hands of C. Nolan and with this visual (see the Prometheus video below) the movie will be a success.

You're wanting a prequel movie first?!
Let Bioware do that as an MMO!
These stories, from the first game to the last, are some epic story lines. The third game is downright Shakespearean in depth and emotion. Let's face it, the majority of folks outthere are not prolific gamers and this overall story needs to be seen by the masses (no pun intended). Let them iterate the overall concept of the story to as many people as possible. There will be some forgone aspects that we all will have to deal with to make the movie marketable to the widest possible audience, both US and abroad.
First, Shepard will be male. Second, his love relationship will be with Liara T'soni. Third, Shepard will follow the more paragon tree than anything else. Beyond that, most of the story line will be somewhat mutable. They will throw in the back story likely the same way we got it, via a quick bit of text at the beginning. If the budget and film length allows, we may get a five minute flashback of the discovery on Mars, but this is hardly necessary. The character side missions will all be dropped or simply discussed through various dialogue In all likelihood, however, they will keep many of the first game characters through the entirety of the trilogy, as twelve side characters in the second movie will only confuse the audience and detract from the main storyline.
Characters that we will see, guaranteed:
Joker: Comedy relief (and I'm with everyone else, if it isn't Seth Green I will be beyond angry).
Liara T'Soni: Shepard's love interest. Make-up via prosthetic would be simple.
Ashley: Need a tough chick to "represent" plus addition of love triangle. Plus gives the addition of the "human-centric" perspective. Could also lend to tension as she's almost a Xeno-phobe.
Garrus: Too cool for words and pivitol to every installment of the game. Also gives Shepard that "buddy" aspect which one sees in every action flick. Might be a bit tricky, but a person in a suit with a CGI head wouldn't be too costly.
Kaiden: Need a "lead" to die and it won't be Ash. Plus shades of tragic in this as he already suffers from his implants, had a rough childhood, etc. This is a possible removal though, as Ash dying would be much more emotionally resonating, especially with the love triangle aspect and (and please no one take this any certain way) audiences are more often moved emotionally when a woman dies than they would a man. Having Ash die would positively represent women as a whole being just as heroic as men are - as typically represented in this kind of movie. The more I think about it though, I like the aspect of no Kaiden and having Ash sacrifice herself. Much more moving, plus lends itself to a new love triangle in part 2 with the introduction of Jack.
Tali: Again, too interesting of a primary character to pass up due to Geth as primary villain in the first installment and the "mystery" that her suit creates. She, too, is a standard character throughout all three games. Could be love interest for Garrus. Costuming and effects are doable.
Wrex: Got to have a Krogan, if for no other reason, the breeding plant that is blown up. Plus there is a bit of comic relief in Wrex. Though admittedly could drop him and this subplot, partially due to time constraints and budgetary issues to create a Krogan (would have to be all CGI). Again, thinking more on this Wrex, the Krogan breeding plant created by Saren could all be dropped. Could just transform it all to some kind of Geth base and still have Ash sacrifice herself blowing that up.
Captain Anderson: plot catalyst/narrator
Udinia: got to have this character to mock. Shows the evil of "political machinations." Also large part of the plot throughout.
Admiral Hacket: another plot catalyst.
EDI: I would also throw in EDI early, as the interaction between her and Joker lends to the comedy relief. It would also make her consistent throughout the trilogy of movies, and if they still deem to give her a body later, it would resonate with the audience better. (This I would prefer to continue to be voiced by Tricia Hefler)
That would be just the first movie.
Sequel additions:
Jack: A sexy and dynamic character - a must (enough said). If Ash is indeed killed off in the first movie, then
this could create a new triangle between Shepard, Jack and Liara. Though not specifically focused on through Shepard, Jack's aggressive attitude and sexual demeanor could create tension as she hits on Shepard.
Mordin: again doable through suit and CGI head. Pivotal to plot for scientific aspect. Could leave him out of
most action sequences, but have him in a lab (either aboard the Normandy or elsewhere). Like EDI, could introduce him in the first movie. [He MUST do the song!!] (Oh and btw: I would prefer to have the original voice actor do the voice for the films, i.e, Michael Beattie.)
Miranda: For Cerberus connection. Though like Wrex, the whole Cerberus thing may be removed as they don't have to kill off Shepard at the end of 1 or the beginning of 2. They could conceivably just leave him as a Spectre. This also leads to too many female characters and potential love interests. Thinking more of leaving her and the
general aspect of Cerberus out of it, though resurrecting Shepard via Cerberus might still be viable.
The Illusive Man: A given due to overall plot in 2 and 3. (This MUST also continue to be portrayed by Martin Sheen)
Legion - Okay, not a must, but I like this character alot and would give the Geth that "human" element as the story progresses. Would likely be the most expensive to create (outside of Wrex) as he would, of course, have to be all CGI.
Beyond that almost all the other characters could be left out, though admittedly there are many I would miss (Thane and Kasume in particular). But Grunt is just another Wrex, Jacob and Miranda could be totally removed along with Shepard working with Cerberus, Samara and Morinth are just more Asari (when you already have Liara) and Zaeed is just, to be frank, a bit too cliche. There's just too many folks in part 2 to make a fluid film in the 2 - 2 1/2 hour range.
By the time we hit part 3, most of the principal characters have returned from part 1, thus the need to streamline through part 2 and have total continuity. As far as the actors concerned, I would love overall to have all the
same actors recur their roles from the game. Most of them could be added in post production (in the cases of Garrus, Tali, Wrex, etc), As far as the others, most of them either inspired the way the character looked or were actually motion captured. Simply look at any of the behind-the-scenes/making-of vids that are out there. (Kieth David [Anderson], Lance Henriksen [Hacket], Ali Hillis [Liara], Yvonne Starhovski [Miranda]; to name a few. Check out the Wiki page, most have links to the pics of the voice actors and see for yourself how much the game character looks like the actor in question.)
I know this a lot of information and all opinion and supposition. But I feel like I could actually write the script for this right now and make it work. I just hope that regardless of what direction they take the movie, that they keep the writing - the story - pure and powerful. Without the right words, no level of special effects will save this movie. Without the right actors, the words could be lost, laying out flat and lifeless. Look at Wing Commander (also one of the greatest games out there with a dynamic story), they destroyed that by ignoring the original concept and story and made it strange and lame (plus the special effects on the Kilrathi were nauseatingly horrible). My dreaded fear is that they could do the same horrible thing to this series. However, I live in hope, as I am Bioware fanboy and they have yet to do any wrong by me. The fact that the developers of the game have been brought in as executive producers fans the fire of that hope that they will represent this game trilogy in film version in an epic way. Keep your fingers crossed.

Yes, the ME games had a great story. However, given the current reactions of fans to its finale/ending, I'm a bit skeptical if it would make a great movie.

Completly agree!
JJ Abrahams, C.Nolan would be awesome choices, as would Ridley Scott,James Cameron (althoug I suspect he'll be busy with Avatar 2 for the next 3 years at least). and please no Paul.W.S Anderson, Michael Bay etc.
Fingers crossed for an awesome adaption

I mean, I know the Mass Effect live action film announced here will focus on (largely) Shepard and be based generally on the events of the first game, but I presume that just in-case it is a massive hit like StarWars they'll have an over-arching plan for a trilogy storyline, and if its going to follow the events culminating in what we got with the ME3's ending.... well, it could be a little bleak for some.
What do you think?, do you think the live action film will be conceptualised as working towards a bittersweet ending?.

However if EA has their way, then in order to pull in new customers they might just focus on the main character just like in other movies, and ignore the current fanbase.
Edit: I guess the point I'm trying to make is the game is about the player being in the driver's seat. You choose how Shepard should look like, and the actions he/she takes in the game. Not some movie director. I am totally fine with watching the studio's version of Shepard as opposed to my version of Shepard however to not alienate me as a gamer then the story should not focus too heavily on Shepard but more on the ME Universe and the characters we have come to know from the game.

This is the reason why IMO they shouldn't make a movie based on the games. I doubt those who didn't like the game's ending are willing to go through all that disappointment again.
I'd go for a prequel instead. Look at what Legendary Pictures did with Batman Begins -- they should do the same thing with Mass Effect.

Was hoping for one.
It`ll be released on blu-ray right?
Make sure to publish it in Norway too(I feel like I have to mention us on these things) xD
Hopefully the stores here will get it then.
Looking forward to it
Do it all with cgi/animation, it`ll probably be a better movie then, they can make the characthers do whatever they want with that xD

I think that the upcoming DLC will provide a better ending than the current ME3 version. If it does, the storyline of the movie could be easily tailored to avoid having such a dismal ending.

Several people have said it already, but I'll just reiterate: First Contact War. And leave shepard out of it entirely. Maybe his ancestor should have a cameo as an easter egg, but other than that... First Contact War. (Yes, I am aware I said it twice.)
Legendary and Bioware have both said that the movie will focus on the male Shepard. They also said that the first movie will be based around the plot of the first game. A movie based on the First Contact war would be cool though.

@ TollasSyrup They should get Michelle Rodriguez (the badass chick from Avatar and Resident Evil) to play Ashley. It's the perfect role for her and they do have similar looks.
No offense, but I've seen several films with Michelle Rodriguez, I personally think she cannot act nor looks like the part for Ashley. There are other talents out there with less name recognition that can do much better, even for the "bad@ss chick" role.

Well that's your opinion but she seems to have talent also she has the tomboyish look down to a T and hey she normally dies at the end of EVERY Film she's beenin so it would be perfect for the ~Virmire Mission lol.
