@ TollasSyrup They should get Michelle Rodriguez (the badass chick from Avatar and Resident Evil) to play Ashley. It's the perfect role for her and they do have similar looks.

No offense, but I've seen several films with Michelle Rodriguez, I personally think she cannot act nor looks like the part for Ashley. There are other talents out there with less name recognition that can do much better, even for the "bad@ss chick" role.

Well that's your opinion but she seems to have talent also she has the tomboyish look down to a T and hey she normally dies at the end of EVERY Film she's beenin so it would be perfect for the ~Virmire Mission lol.

lmao! @"hey she normally dies at the end of EVERY Film she's beenin so it would be perfect for the ~Virmire Mission lol."

I think you might have changed my mind after that statement.. haha

Slightly dissappointed Shep will be male, although at the same time not surprised. I just think...do we really need a yet another caucasian male space marine (presuming he is going to look like the default manshep)...its so overdone. The thing with Shepard is, he/she is supposed to be somebody we personally envision and making a movie that basically concretes a canon Shepard...it takes away that very beloved aspect. Like somebody else mentioned, there's so much lore and history to the ME universe. Why not set the film during the First Contact War or another pivitol point?

I'm not so worried about having a male shepard. I'm more worried that they are going to get some generic and boring "action movie" actor to portray him (Sam Worthington, etc.).

I was wondering now a long time about the Mass Effect Movie. I think, personally, there are great names that have already been mentioned (Cameron, Scott, Abrams, ...) but they are "too big". In Hollywood, Mass Effect ist just a little name and franchise by now. I would prefer a director just like Brad Bird (good with sci-fi, has a good visual style in rl-films) or Duncan Jones (quite a fine visual style, knows the games, has a thing for sci-fi).

This is an actor I can support. I remember when I watched Outlander (lol I actually kinda liked that movie) and was thinking he'd be great for  ME as well.

These movies are being co-produced by EA. Can't wait to see their grubby paws turn it into the next DOOM.

Shepard was 29 years old in the events of ME? Then Mr. Caviezel is a little too old. But maybe Chris Hemsworth is a good actor for Shepard. Not too famous but he can take a lead role.

Am I the only one who liked Doom?

Back on topic: It would be a MASSIVE operation to cast parts for the huge amount of canon character and a truly challenging job to cast Shepard. Sure some of the names mentioned could work but in the end you need great charactters for Mordin, Shepard, Miranda, Anderson, Jacob, Kaidan, Ashley, Vega, Wrex, Tali, Liara, Garrus, TIM, Leng and Saren. MINIMUM. (Do note that every other character beyond these aren't technically NEEDED but they will still need casting though the above mentions should be given higher priority as Garrus, Tali, Wrex, Ashley, Kaidan and Liara are THE crew and Jacob, Miranda and Mordin are the only three major characters from ME2 given their important roles and connections to Cerberus. You would also need good voice actors for Harbinger, Sovereign and EDI but thne again you could just use the original ones from the games...

I don't want to bite, but let's hope it won't have some kind of unlogical pseudo-ending :P And I hope it won't be some mindless action, but it will have some deeper point. Mass Effect has potential to knock down Star Wars, that is for sure.

Very true. Mass effect will not likely be getting any huge names. Having a competent director is very important though.

I'm not sure about that. I think the current endings would fit a movie. They are absolutely inacceptable for a videogame series that we played for ~100 hrs and changed the galaxy the way it was. In a movie, there are no decisions we have to make. And there are no DLCs in cinema to expand endings. There would be closure I think. In a movie, the ending of ME3 could be a little like the ending of LotR, I think. Things are destroyed forever, a new century starts, some of the fellowship goes away for forever, the great goodbye.

Mark Protosevich wrote the script, eh? Liked his work with Straczynski on "Thor". I'm not sure about Protosevich abilitys, I have to admit. The author and the director are the most important men to the story and the whole movie. Also, I heard that Joseph Kosinski could direct. He had a great visual style in "Tron: Legacy" but the story was rather weak. I'm looking forward if that gets better with "Oblivion".

I knew this had to happen, as Mass Effect is one of the greatest sci-fi stories out there. I hope however the movie is not live action for a few reasons...

The 3D artist/animators have done an amazing job with the movie scenes, that we've seen in trailers and commercials; I can only imagine how even more spectacular it would look, if they had a bigger budget, and of course concentrated fully on producing movie. I've always been a huge Final Fantasy fan, because of the high art behind it, but I was completely blown away by the 3D trailers I've seen for Mass Effect 3, mostly the one of the guy, which I believe is Coats, in Big Ben. I've never seen any 3D artist capture such emotion in the eyes; it looked absolutely insane on my TV, seeing all of the detail. I was more captivated by that, than I was any of the movie scenes I've seen in Final Fantasy XIII-Hell even Spirits Within, and Advent Children.

If the movie was live action, it would be extremely expensive; to portray the worlds, the technology, and the aliens- the right way... I just don't think live action can capture the world of Mass Effect for two hours, and a trilogy as I'm sure it would end up being.

The actors... I dig the way Shepard looks, it fits his character. The other thing that fits his character is his voice. I don't want to see Channing Tatum, Matthew Fox, Keanu Reeves, or Dominic Purcell running about as Shepard- and getting his voice actor to play the part, as I've seen people suggest; won't cut it. The guy's got the voice but not the look. I liked Joker, Seth Green was perfect in voicing him.. I don't want to see Seth Green as Joker in live action. The same goes for Freddie Prince Jr with James Vega...However this is even if they decide to use the characters we've seen in the game, which if I remember correctly they were not.

So yeah, all CG 3D animation I say. The voice actors have been amazing in the games- and I think its just more fitting, the same way it was fitting for the Final Fantasy movies to be done in 3D animation... Not every game movie needs to be, or even translates well with live action. Motion capture of each of the voice actors, is as live action as it should get lol.

They should also use the composers from all 3 games, to create the soundtrack; and even use some of the tracks from the game- as well as sounds. The Silent Hill film did this, and it actually made the movie feel more apart of the Silent Hill world, it was a very brilliant thing to do.

The large majority of the people who'd be going to see the film, are going to be those who fell in love with the game- in all the countries it was released. To those unfamiliar with the game, they'd be going to see a really damn beautiful- potentially the most beautiful ever CG 3D animated film, much like many went to check out Avatar for its effects.

i believe all this silence on the `ME movie side is not a good sign
never trusted hollywood with the mE universe anyways
and the longer this silence holds on the less hope i have it would be any good
and if i look at history then 90% of the time that Hollywood made a movie adaption of a game it was utter CRAP
and i am at a point i believe ME will belong in the 90% categorie i hope i will be surprised but i fear the worst

the damn thing is supposed to come this year and they are still chancing the story every 1 or months
and an ME movie not based on the game wont be worth watching anyways
changing the cast with Big name Stars wont cut it either and i guess that is something that will probably hapen
so they get at least some money back but still it will FAIL

Sam Worthington would make a good Shepard. He's around the right age and has the right look.

The benefit of characters that were modeled after people and their voice actors is that they can reprise their roles. And some allowances can be given for actors like Keith David and Seth Green.

Characters that will need 3D models or never have their faces shown(like Quarians) can just use their voice actors from the games.

Other characters, like Hackett, The Illusive Man, and some of the lesser characters in the game leave openings for new possibilities.

John Glover from Smallville would fit The Illusive Man very well. Lionel Luthor is very similar in character. Also Tom Welling from Smallville would look alright as Kaidan. And throw in Patrick Stewart as Hackett. :P

I just hope this movie isn't about shepard, I dunno, I think is really wrong using male or even female Shepard as main character in a damn movie, don't make many sense to me, in books of Mass Effect, they don't even say if shepard is female or male!

Actor's that would suit in my point of view:
- for the Shepard Male Character = Warren Christie
- for the Shepard Female Character = Lena Headey

Anyway, I read they're doing one movie where James Vega is the main character (Mass Effect - Paragon Lost), I also read somewhere they would use Jon Grimsson as character in a movie, if is true or not I dunno!

It's kind of weird but the guy that plays Nick Newman on Young and the Restless, looks almost identical to the default Sheperd...never know.

People are too hung up on looks....

I looked at both those links and both actors are best known for made for TV movies.  Why on Earth would you want them in a Holloywood film that you're hoping turns out to be good?

Too hung up on looks? You're just focusing on their looks by only looking at them on websites. I think Warren Christie would make the perfect Shepard for a few reason.
1. He's not a big name actor who will attempt to recreate a Shepard in his own image because he's thinks he's A list (I think an A lister for the lead roles will only cheapen this film)
2. He's badass in Apollo 18 where he plays an astronaut
3. Yes he looks like Shepard, but he really is a great actor who happens to have the same demeanor as Shepard

I'd love to see Warren Christie "assume direct control of Shepard"
