hm... actually i'm little disappointed and i don't like that now i will have to face the choice of choosing to watch it to see the effects or to not watch it and remember mass effect as it was to me.
two reasons i don't like the idea of a movie:

1.
commander shepard is supposed to be a representation of yourself within the me universe, you play through the game, getting to know each character, choosing your LI, getting attached to your mates, choosing the dialog, making choices based on your own character.... and as a femshep i can't relate to a male actor who will most likely not even look like the commander (plus all the characters we know and love will, most likely, look and sound different)

2.
second, to me there are movies and then there are games. same as there are movies and there are books. look what happened to lord of the rings, or harry potter, anyone who first read the books then saw the movies knows what bull they turned out to be, leaving out so many crucial information and characters. and the same will happen to mass effect. i mean, think about it, you have about 30 hours of gameplay, how do you fit that into a two and a half hour movie??

there are more reasons out there, but these are the most important ones to me. maybe the movie will be a success and they will have made a good sci-fi/action film out of it for those who haven't experienced the games as we have

[EDIT]
then again... if this movie wasn't going to be about shepard, but more about expanding the me universe (as someone already mentioned before) then it would be awesome. i would 100% support the film. maybe how the humans first found the mass relay and the first contact war... later with mentions of commander shepard doing this and that. now that would be amazing! PLUS... wouldn't more people be interested in me after seeing the movie, thus willing to buy the games?

Eh, it sounds cool, but I'm not to sure if I would like a Mass Effect movie; just stick to the games. Maybe it should follow the exploits of someone else and not Shepard for a multitude of reasons though (the many different views, choices, outcomes, relationships, and personalities people created for their Shepard and they may feel disconnected by the default or a set and placed "true" Shepard. The point that it would have to be longer than a movie. A trilogy at least. But even then, I feel a trilogy couldn't even make a satisfactory amount of story)

As long as the movie doesn't specify what is cannon or not, I will gladly go see it. If it does specify cannon, then all choices made in the game would be worthless, and not worth repalying.

IF EAware insists on doing an ME movie to suck more payola out of the franchise, then the least they could do is not make the movie about Shep.

Would you go see a movie that is a side story to the central conflict without knowing anything about the mythos? No? Neither would the other millions of people who will come to see the big adventure that Commander Shepard (a name that they might have heard of) has.

Lets remember that IF a movie is made, it will not be for us fans who love Mass Effect so much we're on a forum discussing it. It will be made for those million who haven't played the game.

Maybe that is what the movie needs to be about...a side story to get people who haven't been introduced into the series a taste of what the series has to offer. If EAWare does do the movie about Sheploo/FemShep I will refuse to go see it because I do NOT want cannon to dictate what MY story will say what happened.

You do not tell someone a side story to get to the main story unless the side story is the beginning for the main character.

What is going to make the movie canon if it does not change a single thing about the games? I belive that you're throwing around the whole MY story thing too much. YOUR story is on the total of five disk plus DLC that you may have, you going to see a Mass Effect movie about Shepard will be no different than you sitting down and watching someone else play through the game. Not canon.B)

Still the point I was making was that all the decisions I make in my story isn't that same as everyone else's. If a movie dictates what is cannon, then the idea of choices would be thrown away. It would be like playing all 3 ME games in shooter mode. It would completely destroy what ME was and is for me. Now I wouldn't mind seeing a movie about the Firs Contact War or about the after affects of the ME Trilogy. But NOT a movie about Shepard.

I hate it when people reveal the possibility of movie releases etc very early. I hate the anticipation....usually followed by a disappointing setback and a massive outcry by angry fans. Nope not thinking about it until a official release date has been confirmed within the year of release. Assuming the world doesn't end on us before then.;)

If anyone should be playing The Illusive man it should be the guy from Caprica "Eric Stoltz"

If it's from the same people who did The Dark Knight, Watchmen, 300 and The Hangover I have enough confidence in the film. As for actors, I believe Christian Bale would make a very suitable Maleshep. Seth Green can play Joker, I won't accept any other voice and besides, he looks the part anyway. Andy Serkis needs a part too.

Erica Cerra would have to be Ashley Williams, no doubt about it. Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda. Seth Green is also a must-have. Martin Sheen's voice, definitely!...I don't know how they can deal with his physical appearance though. Those are the four must-haves. Keith David with some cosmetics can look like Anderson. Shepard is the most vital, and I don't think Christian Bale looks the part. They have to have someone with the right voice, and the right appearance.

I don't think the default "Sheploo" is the right thing to do if they go with male Shepard. I think the great thing about Commander Shepard is that he/she can be ANYBODY as long as they fit the attitude and look the part of a great marine.

I think Bioware would be selling themselves short if they made the movie about Shep. Like has already been stated, Shep is a very individual character, which is what allowed the players to buy into the game; you invested your own time and views into who shepard was (along the lines that bioware set for us, of course).

At the very least, this would be an excellent opportunity for the ware to explore more of the universe that they have already created.

At the very most, they could use this opportunity to introduce a whole new spectrum of the ME universe to their audience in much the same way the KOTOR games introduced the Old Republic setting and characters to the Star Wars universe (not talking about the game SWTOR, of course).

If bioware goes with the stock storyline, it takes all of the fun out of imagining the continuity and futures of the characters after the games and the possibilities of the characters in game (i.e. replay ability). If they do what KOTOR did and open up a new dimension in the ME universe, then they will give us (books, comics, games, fanfic, etc) more opportunities to build.

The millions who haven't played the game have no idea who Shep is.

Actually, I don't want the movie made at all, because the combination of EA, what Bioware has sunk to, and big-budget Holywood, will result in nothing more than crap, crap, crap.

I think they should do the movie with both mshep and femshep, put both movies on the theaters and so we can choose which one to view. lol

This has probably been stated sometime before, but I can see Shepard's story faring better as a high-budget television series, rather than a 2-hour movie. I mean, the 20+ hours of time we've all put into the three games is more than enough to span a few seasons, even after you get rid of some of the less important things such as repeated Citadel visits, planet scanning, irrelevant side missions, etc.

my god, NO. No way this guy is anything like Shepard. Forget the look, the man got to show some intelligence.
Really

I'm not sure if any of  present actors fit. And if my opinion has any tiny value, it has to be Paul Walker.

Please please make sure they use model ships and CGI on top for the Normandy parts. Nothing worse then CGI ships

Oh and why not have Jennifer Hale play Fem Sheperd, she is easy on the eye and a proven actress.

There will be a choice of watching the film with either a male or female Command Sheperd in true Mass Effect style right? lol
