I'm sorry, I didn't take the time to read this whole topic. Just joined the conversation yesterday :)
So, hold on a minute — you're saying that they already have the plot ready? How do you know that? And the actors are already picked?? Who?

I'm eager to know more!

No, please read my post carefully. I've wrote what i think is best for them to do and what would be a big success. Unfortunately, after what we've all seen after ME3 provides only one conclusion. Bioware/EA guys should stick to proggramming, or maybe even more - to graphic proggramming only (with a ****load of bugs, and the game trying to check my download content blocking me for a half or even a minute, not allowing to do anything else).

So to sum it up:
- they have ****ed insides of the game, making a lot of bugs and sloppy work, some students i know would make a better job,
- they have ****ed the plot and made boring game from the hit that was me2...

So, in few words, the management clearly lost it.
I can bet, that they have never read "Clean Code".
I can bet, that there was some internal conflict over this and some changes were made in the company.
So frankly, the non-competent guys won. Good job, Because when something is working, like ME2 did, why repeat the success? It is better to create an army of haters from the fans. Now Bioware and EA, cheers. You just made yourself a target for a downfall - many, many people will after this stop buying your games and will start to download them and use cracks, feeling cheated.
Frankly speaking, destroying great rpg, making it action shooter. You maybe even deserve it.
And frankly speaking, your movie will never ever be a top hit. Only for hardcore fans, who will be watching it not at the cinema screens, but after they will download it by torrent, or watch it in the sites that allows that for free.

Because, frankly speaking, your management showed more then one time, that they are an incompetent bunch.

Ps.: I feel so much better. A whole lot, after talking it out :D

Duuuuuuuuuuuude...

So if i have something smart, but not nice, to say, i should bugger off? So only by being an asslickers i we can write posts here? Lol dude. LOL.

Hmm, let's see, i just gave them good material for doing a movie, think of plot and actors, and everything, and from the posts i can see that people would like my idea.

So one more time, why we should not write here?

Maybe the managament should have people to read fans posts, and take them more seriously. My friend who works for company who works for them said, that they don't care for the plot, they just want fast bucks. He said, that they are forced to make games ASAP, so they can sell it ASAP.
So, as a client, i am not feeling very appreciated. More like being treated like a stupid person, who will eat everything it is given to him. But guess what. I want to get what i am paying for. And the only thing that makes ME3 not a BIG DISSAPPOINTMENT, if not a MISSUDERSTANDING, is multiplayer, which was made by people who either didn't read ME wiki, or simply never cared from the beginning.

So to speak. Bugger off shoelicker.

And read about "Starcraft: Ghost" <- jest, i have never knew it existed too, because Blizzard after one day removed it from the shops and gave the people who paid for it their money back, because all the fans were saying that this game is beneath Starcraft and should never exist.

So yea, EA and Bioware are full of *heads, who likes to pump cash, and don't care for their clients.
Way to kill something, what could have been known as one of the best trilogies. Now it is known as something, that had very good second part, but was *ed, simply known as failure. =]

People should learn how to receive critique, whether if it's positive or negative. Critique is something that is always good to have because without it, things might not end up being at their best. What 'meleander' is saying here is true. Companies such as EA don't care for their clients, that is why they put companies such as Bioware on a tight leash and demand games to be developed FAST so they could get more money FAST.

Don't get me wrong, I love the ME trilogy, but having played them all through more than once, I — among many others, have noticed several issues with the game and it's story, especially in ME3. They could have made it much better, but instead, they just don't care cause it would've taken more time and bla bla. They don't want that, they don't want to spend more time than necessary, they want more money asap! So if people would realize these things, stop giving them your money for "half-finished sh*t, we don't care about you" -games, and start demanding some value for your money! Like 'meleander' said:

The only reason they're still profiting and making games is because most people don't stand up for what they receive with their money. Most people just swallow every sh*t they get without demanding anything better. EA is still running because people buy their games without questioning them. THEY know they can give YOU anything and they will still profit. BUT, if we showed them that without us, they're NOTHING, we might just start getting MUCH better games.

I still love Mass Effect trilogy, but I'm a bit disappointed because I know the trilogy could have been better if they had given Bioware a little more room to breathe. As for the movie, I think they should let a fan (who knows how to write a script) to write it. They should listen to the fans on this and NOT make a movie based on the games. The ME trilogy already was sort of a movie, and I don't want to watch it all over in a cinema within 2 hours, I want something more, something different aside from the games. I believe people here have suggested pretty good plots and good actors for the movie. Why not listen to them for a change? Even I have some ideas that could make up to a good movie :)

I've heard some rumors that the movie is cancelled...don't know if I believe the rumors though since they're not from a reliable source.

They're going to have to cut out a LOT of content to fit this story into one movie. I'm guessing it'll be two hours, two and a half at best? Whereas a medium playthrough of the first game is about twenty hours.

The real kicker will be introducing the universe, it's many settings, the crew, the plot, the backstories, Saren, the geth, etc., while still trying to find room to make us care who gets left behind on Virmire.

Because Virmire HAS to be in there. It's one of the pivotal moments of the entire trilogy.

^agreed. I would be worried if the writer/director didnt have the balls to adapt the storyline into a entertaining movie, instead of 'following line for line the game' to 'please fans', and if fans expect to see every character or their decisions play out, i think you'd be doing a disservice to adaptions in general (books/comics to movies too)

Cut characters from ME2 that interrupt the main plot thread. eg look at the headache that was Pirates of the Caribbean: At worlds End. (good intentions with the characters, but in the end to many distractions). My opinion, what would Samara or Grunt add to the plot? Could they be pulled out of it without consequence? most definitely. You've also got Thane and Jacob. One or the other could be added for 'cool-action sequence' or 'The Team' spirit)

Or reordering events, swapping some parts around like LOTR did with its trilogy- putting some threads into the Two Towers and vice versa. Too much plot in ME3/1 add some into ME2.
You could even see characters take other lines eg Mordin/Cpt Kirrahe. In sequels a viewer would be 'Oh its wrex! oh no wait... oh those lizards look the same..." or introducing to many sub characters when they dont play vital roles.

Anyway this is all jargon. The writer should have the intention/foresight for a trilogy, even though his writing for the 1 movie. it would make the 3 movies seem more streamlined.

Heres a fan adaption. Ashley replaces Jenkins: Death fodder/Enemey game-mechanic. Jenkins isnt necessary to the plot. (i would have love an introduction to joker/pilot and shepard though. that epic hero shot in me1)

Lets see if we can break those 20 hours down into a suitable time for a movie.
  • Somewhere between 8 and 12 hours of that time is for actual gameplay/missions. That's the easiest part of this to breakdown. A good writer should be able to turn those hours into mere minutes of the movie, while still being able to keep most of it in.
  • Between 1 and 4 hours is walking around hub worlds. Scratch what I just said about mission time being the easiest to write out or around. Simply write all this out, or if they absolutely want to show it make it a few seconds.
  • The second hardest clump of game time to write will be the sheer amount of dialogue that is in this game. Deciding what is and what is not important, can we have a scene where two different characters are talking together with Shepard instead of seperate talks, where and how much of the codex do we add in, do we have a narrator saying things we cannot fit in naturally.
They can easily have somewhere between 9 and 16 hours of gameplay broken down into an hour and a half of movie time. The big question will be if they break that chunk of dialogue and codex down into an hour or so of movie time.

About the movie. I agree that it should not focus on the games story only; unless they make sure to have a trilogy extremely well written (I could not expect anyone but Karpyshyn to write it) and use the same elements the games used to conquer players minds and hearts, what is virtually impossible.
There are so many ways the ME universe story could go, that trying to give the general audience the same feeling the player had once he or she felt in love with the story, with its characters, with the so called future, for more than 160 hours of gameplay and choices made will make the movie a huge fail before it begins.
I really would like to go to the movies to watch Mass Effect, look at the eyes of the audience, and see their cheer of well spent money, see that they really understood the story and can’t wait to see the sequence. I can even imagine a mix of Blade Runner with Star Trek kind of movie, I can imagine some actors playing some roles, and to be honest I’m a big fan. We have got to keep our minds open and ready thou. ME is a great universe for games, books and comics, maybe a TV series, but for a movie, the chances of survival are…slim.

As far as I know Karpyshyn is done with BioWare for good

Also the script was handed to a fan...to rewrite. I think this is a terrible idea but we'll see. Neill Blompkamp was no one till he was somoene.

I think an adaptation of ME1 will be relatively easy to shorten into a movie, but it will get tricky in ME2 and ME3. As was said before, they should take a LOTR approach and remove some characters and move some events around. I want a good movie, not a fumbling attempt to follow the plot exactly. I think you could probably take out Therum, Feros, and most of Noveria. Maybe have them recruit Liara at the Citadel and she has the cipher or something else. The movie would probably be around 3 hours, like your average Peter Jackson movie. The movie can be good, and I would love to see the entire series recreated on screen, but I know that just isn't feasible. So I hope the writer is willing to make some cuts and even add things in to make the movie more interesting.

I think we should be told what's going on. If it''s cancelled we can forget about getting our hopes up but if it's going ahead fantastic, we'll wait patiently but the 'not knowing' is bad, bad, bad.

This is a question to Bioware.

Will you be making a DLC that will be put at the destroy ending that way the fans who select this opiton we can know what happens to the crew of the Normandy and Sheperd. Also it would be nice if you put in a nice game ending scene in which you can take part of with your LI if you had one.

Ugh no. Why not let Mass Effect stay a game series? Nothing good comes from turning a game into a movie. *Points to Resident Evil franchise* and *cough cough*

The story is going to be watered down, the aliens will probably look stupid and it will probably be a male shep who romances Liara. Not that I have a problem with male Shep or Liara. It would just be too typical.

If you cared about your fan base Bioware you wouldn't tarnish such an amazing game series by turning it into some cheesy sci-fi flick. I just don't see how you can mash all the awesome-ness that is ME into a 2 hour movie. But your call Bioware.

I agree.  ME1 could fairly easily be made into a movie.  Problems arise in ME2 and MUCH moreso in ME3.  ME2, storywise, is weak.  It stands out as kind of a red-headed stepchild that had good characters and improved gameplay BUT the story was weak.  More of a substory.  ME3 has major problems going to movie.  Parts of the game would require full movie treatment to do them justice: Curing the genophage and retaking Rannoch cannot be properly handled as side missions or stories in a bigger movie.  They would each need to be their own movies to do them justice.  We can forget about Leviathon.  That was a throwaway DLC of no importance and added nothing of value to the story.

I doubt commander Shepard will be included and I seriously don't think they'll follow the ME1 story line step by step. I think it will be a different story in the mass effect universe, might even be the first contact war or another event that occurred before the start of ME1.
