Proposition : Games to Movie adaptations fail unconditionally.
Exhibit A - Wing Commander
Christopher "Maverick" Blair
Default sample : Mark hamill
Analysis : Well versed in the genre, well liked by the target audience
Failed substitute : Freddie Prinze Jr.
Analysis : Feeble attempt to attract demographic that traditionally reject genre (females)
Major Todd "Maniac" Marshall
Default sample : Tom Wilson
Analysis : Decent comic relief
Failed substitute : Matthew Lillard
Analysis : Failed attempt by executives to grasp concept of funny
Test subject - Mass Effect
Commander Shepard
Default sample : Mark Vanderloo / Mark Meer
Substitute prediction : Mark Wahlberg
Analysis : Actor unfamiliar but interested in genre not in story resolution
Jeff "Joker" Moreau
Default sample : Seth Green
Substitute prediction : Dane Cook
Analysis : Seth Green's schedule on robot chicken in conflict with project
Result:
As would be expected with adaptation without dedication.
but...
Hope is the last thing to abandon the heart.

@FutureBoy81: awesome suggestions!
I know I'm in the minority here but I never liked the 'box' Shepard. The marine crew cut, the boxy face... just doesn't seem to have the depth to be believable. Is that who we players see ourselves as?
@Noir201: Interesting... I didn't hear that about inspired by Blade Runner. Comparisons made, yes, but by the press or fans. Deckard was an antihero, Shepard is... well, the regular kind.
Thanx Man

I see what your saying thanks i think they would both be good choices, but i would prefer Oldman playing the sneeky villian after his performance in "Lost in space" he was the only salvagable thing in that debacle ....
I just figured Murray because he's more used to playing the ineffectual bureaucrat whose conspiracies seldom amount to any significant menace. Gary Oldman commands much more respect and would feel wasted on a weasel like Udina. Dr. Smith, for instance, became a full-blown boss fight in the aforementioned debacle. But I agree that his presence is amazing and he could play anything.
Commencing tangent: Incidentally, I feel Gary Oldman is the only man living who could bring Revolver Ocelot to the screen faithfully.
Tangent over.

Yes, at least there I could rest easy knowing the movie is all just a bad really long dream sequence...

Aliens
would be executed through special effects and extras, but voiced by their
normal voice actors.
And seriously people, stop suggesting they
cast Mark Vanderloo with a Mark Meer voiceover, that would look
idiotic. I'd take acting ability over looking exactly like the
character any day.
Agree!

I dunno, there aren't previously established performances for the actors to imitate. If only Shatner was forty years younger...

LOL, It's funny, pretty much all of the comments here are about everyone NOT wanting Shepard in the movie. I agree! it would wreck the game because each Shepard is different! Bioware and movie writers please take note!
lol. AND DEFFO DO ABOUT THE FIRST CONTACT WAR!
or one of the books! Or a new story maybe with a batarian raid or slavers or sumthin
I'm not trying to call you out personally CG50, but I've heard this same sentiment a lot and I heartily disagree:
The movie can not possibly "wreck" the game. It is literally impossible. What's it going to do, get into your computer..and somehow hack into all your game files and make the game terrible? The two are entirely separate entities.
Suppose the movie is terrible; how will that affect how much you enjoy the game? How could it affect it at all? How many brilliant books and games have been put into lackluster cinema? Oodles. I don't like..for example..Harry Potter any less now that I've seen the horror that is Daniel Radcliff's acting. The books are still completely the same books as they were before.

BIGGEST FACEPALM IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
Jesus, BioWare, what the heck. ME doesn't need a movie, it already is one for christ's sakes. Cash cows.
Epic QFT.
Unless the movie stars someone besides Commander Shepeard, this will fail hard in my eyes. Seeing poster boy Shepard as the hero would suck, as I would rather see my own Shepard, as I'm sure everyone else would rather see their own Shepard.
If this is a prequel or something that expands the universe, then alright, if you must. Otherwise, I beg you bioware, don't put Shepeard in this movie.

Megan Fox as Jack. The neurosis, the tantrums - she's the perfect Jack. Her career's tanking, she's be dirt cheap. Looking at her career trajectory I wouldn't discount budget skin flicks for crack down the road without some kind of intervention.
Let's not scrape the bottom of the barrel until we've at least scraped the sides.
