Oh and... Coby Bell for a young Anderson if you go with the first novel as source.

I think its hilarious everyone is banking on it being based off the original Mass Effect game. Chances are its going to take place sometime after the Trilogy. That means its going to be original with a new cast of characters and a new plot.

I mean its fun to guess who they would cast to play current characters but I'm guessing it will not be about the current trilogy.

I'm going to assume that by "after the trilogy" you mean a continuation of the Mass Effect universe from that point, which would mean that the movie would be chock full of references to the game.  A game which a few million people have played and the vast majority of the movie going audience has not. Yeah, sure.

Mass Effect is not that well known.  I was speaking with some friends earlier about this news and only one of them had even heard of the game.  She thought is "the one about the guy in space with the frog monster and blue girl."  These are people in their mid-twenties, the target audience for Mass Effect, so don't expect the film to stray to far from what little awareness the general public has of it.

Am I the only one who thinks a movie based of the First Contact War would be pretty boring. The whole thing was the equivalent of a border skirmish. I've always found it kinda funny; Humanity treats the whole thing like it was some grievous offense, while the rest of the galaxy is like "Big ****ing deal."

This, a thousand times this.  So much goddamn whining about 'oh no my precious fanon is ruined if they use John Shepard!'

Folks, it's not just about reaching in a hat and pulling out a bunch of names to cast into a movie. The casting directors , IMO, probably put in more time figuring out all the angles it takes to cast a successful movie as it does to settle on the storyline. What I feel primarily reigns in these efforts are the efforts put forth to pick a "compatible" combination. Yeah, OK, so no two personallities get along perfectly. Well, there has to be the least amount of conflict, off stage as well as on stage, as there can be. Another angle is in how they present the 'character' to the actor they want to perform that 'character'. In other words, how they sell the movie and character to the actors. It goes further as to the process to which a movie is cast. But in the end, any misstep, however slight, can be the death of a movie.

Something most people seem to forget is that "we," the fans of the game, do not factor into Bioware's thinking on this front in the slightest. Beyond a few winks and nods, don't expect anything to be designed to appeal to hardcore fans. Movies with large budgets, the kind Mass Effect will most likely be, have to appeal to a large viewer base, not a smallish fan community that will most likely pay to see it anyway.

I hope it's rated PG-13 to R. I don't want no child movie.

It'll almost certainly be PG-13. Can you name one R-rated film that would fit with modern concept of "summer blockbuster?"

^ PG-13 is almost garunteed(spelling). Most big blockbusters aim for this rating to appeal to a wide variety people and get the big bucks.

I play both male and female Shepards, so the lead character better be a transvestite or I'm not watching it!

Furthermore, I always play earthborn, warhero as a paragade because I have no curiousity about how the game might play out with different choices. They better use all my choices, and it's just too bad if other players made different choices because MY choices are correct and they are all plainly playing the game wrong.

But seriously, I think a relay/first contact movie would be cool as a starter of a series, but sooner or later the reapers have to come into it, because they are the main antagonists of the ME universe. it would be odd to have a Mass Effect movie where the major villian is ignored.

What? Screw PG-13. Rated R all the way, and include the "sex scene" so fox news can b_tch about it again.

I would have to say it's totally fair to already be tired of over half the thread consisting of 'omg mass effect is ruined if they do [x] or [x] because it's MY story wahhhh entitlement'.

Just saying.

This should be an expanded universe; Ashley or Kaiden as the protagonists doing some crazy mission to help Shepard!

We do not forget it and we know we are bugs. And the bugs counts only when the number is significant.

This is just a general question, so forgive the off-topic nature of it, but...Did I play a different game than everyone else? I see people mention things like "choice" and "My Shepard" as if there were a number of radically different ways to play the game. The games follow the same plot regardless of player choices. Sure, some of the details vary, but it's more or less the same experience for everyone, so I don't get where this is notion that the game present anything more than the illusion of choice comes from.

For an EPIC love scene!?

Eh, they'll most likely make in PG-13, since that seems to be the rating that sells the best.
