The First Contact war is a great idea and would not impact the shepard trilogy, as well as it would tell us exactly what happened during the war.

I would feel alot better about the movie if this or something similar is planned.

I'll reserve judgement on the quality of the movie as video game to movie crossovers have given us crap more often than not. Wing Commander anyone?

Keeping my fingers crossed here.

I vote for Christian Bale as Commander Shepard - he's a great actor who can carry a blockbuster film (The Dark Knight, Terminator: Salvation) with the serious attitude and confidence needed for the role. The commitment he brings will make the other actors up their own game, taking what could be another Transformers, and making it a film of Watchmen or The Dark Knight calibre.

Well if the movie will actually be about the first Mass Effect game I think I would choose this cast for some of the characters - John Shepard- Mark Vanderloo or Matthew Fox or Scott Foley or Karl Urban. I would choose Matthew Fox to be John Shepard.
Ashly Williams-Janina Gavankar or Erica Cerra or Michelle Rodriguez. I would choose Erica Cerra to be Ashly Williams.
Kaidan Alenko- Zachary Quinto or John Leguizamo. I would choose John Leguizamo to be Kaidan Alenko.
Joker- As Seth Green of course!
And to be honest I dont know what some of you people are thinking about not having Shepard in the movie, I dont think it would be Mass Effect without Commander Shepard in my opinion. But I do think the movie should show some of Shepard's past maybe even the War Hero title with him in the "Scillian Blitz" I dont know if I spelled that right but I think most of you know what im talking about. And Again I think Matthew Fox from the Show "LOST" who played as Jack Sheppard would fit John Shepard's character pretty well. As Im reading more and more posts, I see many people dont want Shepard in the movie which seems stupid because whats a Mass effect movie without Commander Shepard. I mean they should adleast show how Shepard got so popular in the Military from what he has done in his past to get him where he is now. If they dont have Shepard in the movie I think the movie wont be as good and I will be somewhat disappointed.

I'm sorry, this is a terrible idea, and totally not necessary. Video game movies are always crap, and (if this is the plan) a canon Shepard will just suck.

If this must happen, at least base it on the First Contact War or Saren/Anderson or something. Please.

Perhaps a new face? i think Sam Worthington upstaged Christian Bale in Terminator.

But im not sure about the taking shepards story still... also those wanting a first contact war movie. do you think it will be to close to the district 9 sequel comming out?

I think it was the role more than anything. Sam Worthington is just a fad, a pet for blockbuster directors, like Shia LaBoeuf for Michael Bay and Spielberg. Watch the Machinist, or American Psycho, and you may change your mind.

I believe that the film should leave Shepard out of the equation. This way fans will not have to worry about the film "changing" choices that players have made in their respective playthroughs also, leaving Shepard out of the film will leave room for other character's (hopefully other members of the Normandy crew) pasts, personalities and motivations to be expanded on-- or for an entirely new cast of characters to be introduced without any fear of ruination regarding the characters which we have grown to love and cherish.

P.S. Forum go-ers,

When they say they are making a Mass Effect movie, of course that means they are making Shepard's story.

It's like making a Terminator movie about anything other than John Connor - it just wouldn't make sense.

^ maybe. i prefer seeing a new/emerging face than the current hollywood actors. unless there quite good already.(Bale)
all i can say is if tom cruise gets a part it would be the worse thing e.v.e.r.

it could be on the books >_> thats mass effect and shepard's only slightly mentioned in one of them.

I'm not so sure, bio ware has been careful with not using Sheppard or many of the characters from the games in the books or comic, I'm under the impression that they may do the same with the film, in order to keep the Shepard experience something that is unique and exclusive only to the game.

at least I'm hoping that is what they are planning to do. besides i don't want to see shepard on the big screen i want to see garrus and tali and joker and...wow i shouldn't have started naming names :)

If anything, they will probably show Shepard's Story of becoming the way he is in the Intro to the movie, like they did with X-men Origions and have the video game music playing in the background

Anyways, I STRONGLY DON'T WANT matthew fox playing as shepard

he doesn't even LOOK like he could be in the suit, lol

Get Dwayne johnson....cause he could pull off being pissy and mad....except strong curse words, cause he can't apparently curse to save his life

I WANT TO GET A VOICE JOB FOR BIOWARE.....SOMEONE HELP ME OUT!

Hell since they're wanting to do the movie for mass effect I SOLEMNLY place my vote to be a stand in or an extra character for the game

i play it too much anyways

I love the idea of this movie but I hope to god they stay away from Shepard's story and go another way, I wouldn't mind already established characters making appearances but keep Shepard's story in the games. There's to much chance for them to ruin the movie if they try to translate the games themselves to film create a whole new story I say. Mass Effect is a big universe plenty of other story's to tell that take place before or after Shepard's story.

Put me down in the 'Seth Green must be Joker' column. And Sam Worthington...

... had better be sent to Pandora for real just to make sure he stays out of this :P
Anyhow, while my initial reaction is "but it won't be my Shepard(s)", I should be able to get past that. The chances of seeing a Shepard with biotic or tech skills are rather low (and the chances of a fully Renegade Shepard or a female Shepard are less) but given that there are plenty of other characters to show off the other powers (including the Most Common Superpower ) I think that will be okay.  Though it might be a little more interesting to make Shepard an Infiltrator or Vanguard rather than Soldier so there's a bit more variety in the main chracter's combat.  Wouldn't bother me too much.
Actually, I hope we get a Paragade character: mostly Paragon with a bit of Renegade fun thrown in (like the occasional punchout of journalisticly  inclined individuals).

As great as it could be to see the Mass Effect universe in full cinematic glory (including Mass Relays, the Cidadel, Sovereign, use of biotics, all the different alien races, the Normandy, and best of all, Tali) I'm not sure how much of the plot can fit into the length of one movie.  I expect they'll drop out all the side missions and all or most of the sidequests (seriously, they could make another two movies worth of deleted scenes, of which one and a half movies would be pretty boring stuff...) and of course all the walking/driving and elevator scenes would be cut down to a few minutes as required by any dialogue that is needed between combat scenes.  And of the main missions, they'll probably skip over many of the 'less important' parts which means a lot of the minor background characters will be passed over entirely.  I just hope they don't have to make any radical changes to the story to make it fit.
(Actually they'll have to have a little bit of side-mission stuff to introduce Cerberus)

As cool as this could be, the 'not my Shepard' issue may mean it's better making the movie about a sidestory or something like the First Contact Wars (which would be epic regardless).  But I can see why using the existing 'action hero' that Shepard is, is likely to attract more $.

Anyhow, it could be very good, or very very bad.  I guess we'll see.  (And they'd really better not mess up Tali.)  (And the aliens had better not look like humans with costumes on.)  (And yeah, they could seriously mess up the Asari if they're not careful.) (And Ashley had better be saved over Kaidan.) (And please, NO love interest for Shepard.)

Just realised this will mean live action husks and creepers.  Ewwwww.  We better see Jenkins die, btw.
I think that's enough rambling for now.

Well since Legendary Pictures picked it up, its got to be at least decent enough. I mean that company has put out some good stuff. I wouldn't sell it too short yet.

My one and only hope is that it features our beloved BioWare comedy.

"There is a high statisical probability of death by gunshot. A punch to the face is also likely."
-Legion

Also, Paragon or Renegade Shepard? Or does this follow the default story? John Shepard, etc, etc?
Would be cool if you guys let us vote on which direction it goes.

This is just speculation, but I've compiled a set of actors that could be in ME:
Shepard - Channing Tatum
Ashley - Jessica Biel
Kaidan - Milo Ventimiglia
Garrus - Ron Perlman?
Tali - Emma Watson
Liara - Gemma Arterton
Wrex - Steve Barr (respectively)
Capt. Anderson - Keith David (respectively)
Joker - Seth Green (respectively)
Chakwas (the doctor) - Helen Mirren?

Now, I have no idea who the cast would be. I'm just guessing. There may be somebody better than what I have come up with. If anyone else does, I'm all ears. Posted Image

I think Mass Effect 1's story is easy to turn into a 2-3 hour movie, however Mass Effect 2's story is not. I'm not saying its bad. Its because the large cast of characters and main focus on them will create a movie that goes at an uneven pace with different story threads going all over the place. Sure the Loyally stuff is cool, but is it relevant to the main story? not really.

The good news is that this movie will probably come out after Mass effect 3 is out. So if this movie ends up sucking, it won't completely ruin Mass Effect for me.

heh, i think they should probably make the intro lengthy like the beginning of WATCHMEN

and ETHERAL DENSITY?

you put alot of thought into this, and if i was in front of you right now, i would happily shake your hand on everything you've said.

I do hope they do a great job with the intro to mass effect....like just put majority of certain history parts in like they did with WATCHMEN

Now one can only wait to see if this movie will become something great or just be another horrible game movie. I guess I love and hate hearing this but I guess if its bad I just wont see it lol.  I wouldnt mind if they didnt use Sheperd as a main character so that would stop anyone from saying that Sheperd's choices are up to the player and since all the ME books does not use Sheperd as a main character Im hoping they might do the same with the movie.

And its true stated in other comments stated above and Im sure many others that there are so many other stories in the ME universe that could be used.

<3This should give Bioware lots of money to make ME3 even better!!<3

It would be great for them to just do it by the game. and not rush it all into one.

I can see Mass Effect 1 being at least 2:50

and mass effect 2 being 3:25/3:30

i have to agree. there are to many characters in me2 and they only have 1-3hrs to tell a interesting story. me2 works for a game format but not for the bigscreen.
