@Lord Zathule: agreed -- Marina Sirtis has a great dramatic voice, up there with Shohreh Aghdashloo but more likely to figure into the movie plot. And Benezia's story is actually quite useful in advancing the Saren plot twist.

Drama is in seeing human first contact end in disaster. Unkonwn, unknowable race of aliens conquer human colony. Unknown if advanced species is possible to be defeated. Goal is to relieve colony.
Antagonist is Turian admiral. Possibly Saren's brother. Could be brutal efficiency runs in family. Protagonist is a younger Jon Grissom. Add Hollywood required Damsel in Distress™ who could then be Kahlee Sanders' mother.
Could be commercially viable. Also would avoid inevitable fanbase backlash when canon Shepard is too paragon/renegade and/or did not choose preferred love interest. Would also avoid "The Quarian Question."
Point taken. Yet... concerned that Grissom may not really be the right hero for a movie. Also why settle for Saren's bro. when you can get the guy himself. We can't assume that there will be sequels made, so they'd likely pull out all the plot devices they can in the first movie. The contact war plot ends up looking so small compared to the events of ME1. Now.. if you could make the contact war look like it threatened humans with extinction... maybe. It just seems like the contact war opened so many new things that overshadowed the conflict itself -- and this would be OK for some directors who could make us full of wonder and anticipation at the end of the film (something like ST: First Contact), but it's so much easier to just have that big conflict and success driving the action of the movie.

Matthew Fox as Commander Shepard!!! Everyone check this out, it has potential cast for the Mass Effect movie ----> http://blogs.myspace...id_translations
I think I agree with all of your choices...that never happens. Angelina Jolie as Samara? She *is* a mother (here's hoping her daughters doesn't turn out like Morinth).

My honest opinion is that paragon would be best for a film adaptation.

Jon Hamm would make a great commander shepard.
That's a cool suggestion.
I'm also feeling Jim Parsons as a Salarian and John Rhys-Davies as a Krogan. Emma Thompson as Dr Chakwas.
I gotta go watch some Chuck to gain some appreciation for this Yvonne Strahovski person everyone is talking about.

However it would depend on what the story will be if it will be a great movie. Personally it would be nice if they don't touch the main games story lines tooo much. A new storyline or a new story arc ... or something like that would add more to the universe, I hope

Secondly, if legendary does decide to base the plot on the first game, perhaps Bioware should have a series of Polls on major choices, like Sheperd's origins, Does Wrex get killed, etc.
Preferably, base the movie simply in the Mass Effect Universe, and if there has to be an original source, maybe the books? Too many variables that could screw around with.

Yeah well, some people feel that a film with Shepard in it would screw up those people's perception of there 'own' Shepard, which I do not understand.MikeDraws567 wrote...
Am I the only one who thinks it makes more sense to have Shepard in this film? He's the character that brings it all together.

If you haven't read the novels or never bothered to read the codex than you have no idea how immense the Mass Effect universe truly is.. It is ripe with story telling capabilities without angering a large fan base.. In case you haven't kept track of the interviews that BioWare has given about the topic than you also wouldn't know that Casey Hudson has said that they would never tell Shepards story because that was the gamer's story.Mister Mida wrote...

It's different when someone else makes a game or writes some fan-fiction.. When BioWare puts a big stamp of approval on a movie that makes it canon. If they stick to their word they won't include Shepard in the film. However I was troubled by the posting on the front page asking who should play Shepard.. Thats not a good sign and I hope they seriously think twice before alienating a huge portion of fans..

I think it would be best to tell a separate story, maybe set in the aftermath of ME 3, with a new hero. Shepard could be mentioned in the movie but is never shown.

MAKE IT ON A COMPUTER.
How many millions of dollars did it take bioware to make the intro of Mass effect 2 couple thousand dollars at most?
How many millions of dollars would it take to make the same intro of Mass Effect 2? with live actors, and a set?....hundreds of thousands of dollars?
From the entertainment value, FROM the true to game value, and from sheer financial point of view....make in on COMPUTER, not with live actors.
