I'm just hoping that the movie would not ruin the whole story because it's perfect as it is. Commander Shepard is perfect and the game is about choosing side whether we want it Paragon or Renegade, it's up to the player to decide what path of Spectre they'll choose. If they'll be creating movie and Commander Shepard would be the man, it would spoil the entire game. And the biggest spoiler is that we'll know if Commander Shepard is a bad Spectre or a good one, this part is awesome because the player is the one who creates their Shepard's personality. But whatever, I bet BioWare know what to do about this concern. Anyway, I hope The First Contact War and theRachni Wars would be included that's probably awesome, since no one knows how the action goes.

No, I haven't read the novels/comics (read the summaries though, that's good enough for me) and I did bother to read the codex. Yes, the Mass Effect universe has plenty of stories to tell, but they need to decide what events are actually film material. If the trilogy's story is in their eyes the best material for a film, well, big chance that's the direction they're going to take. I honestly do not care what story they're going to tell in the film(s), I'm probably gonna watch it anyway. And I read almost every interview which handles Mass Effect and I've never heard Hudson say that Shepard's story to film would never happen. So if you're so kind, give me a linkDrunkenGoon wrote...
If you haven't read the novels or never bothered to read the codex than you have no idea how immense the Mass Effect universe truly is.. It is ripe with story telling capabilities without angering a large fan base.. In case you haven't kept track of the interviews that BioWare has given about the topic than you also wouldn't know that Casey Hudson has said that they would never tell Shepards story because that was the gamer's story.Mister Mida wrote...
Yeah well, some people feel that a film with Shepard in it would screw up those people's perception of there 'own' Shepard, which I do not understand.MikeDraws567 wrote...
Am I the only one who thinks it makes more sense to have Shepard in this film? He's the character that brings it all together.
It's different when someone else makes a game or writes some fan-fiction.. When BioWare puts a big stamp of approval on a movie that makes it canon. If they stick to their word they won't include Shepard in the film. However I was troubled by the posting on the front page asking who should play Shepard.. Thats not a good sign and I hope they seriously think twice before alienating a huge portion of fans..

I really just hope that it's about the First Contact War or something. Making it set during ME1 or 2 would increase the chance of disrupting continuity by about A MILLION/BILLION. It can't be about Shepard.
If the movie has mention of Shepard at all, it has to be brief and very, very, VERY vague.

That is IF the director sticks with being true to the story of ME universe.
before humans...it would not sell as a movie having just aliens.
From all of em.
Is very hard to make Live actor sheppherd, which is why I say to make the movie on computers not with live actors, live actors can't come close to a video game is just more expensive, and brings down the overall quality of the story.
Explaining a game in 2 hrs, to have an audience understand and actually make the movie good... is impossible, you can't do it period. Sheppherd is too unique, and it would take at least a 3 hr movi, which they wont make, on top of that, Sheppherd for many can be many different things, an ass, an angel, a female ass, or a female angel, you can't satisfy everyone.
So from all of those things....onyl thing that can give the director free reign, and alot of room for imagination is the First contact war, is fast, action pase, short lived, and leaves alot to be wanted in sequels and what not....might be more like star wars stuff and the like.
But PLEASE make it on computers, I can't stress that enough.

Too many games/comic/anime that I love have been irreversably tainted by cheap money grabbing movie adaptation, but as long as they don't reference Shepard or her exploits in any way then i'm not too bothered about them making a Mass Effect movie, i'll either watch it or not depending on how much it cost to make, who directs it, who's in it and wether it actually looks any good.
If Shepard is mentioned though, then I just won't go anywhere near it. It won't be my Shepard so why should I give a ****?
( And didn't Bioware say that they would never do anything to contradict the fact that it's our own personal Shepard going through the ME series? So far they havn't been too bad on that front, so maybe there's hope yet. )
---
Now having said that and thinking about it a bit more, I would really love to see them get Erica Cerra to star as Chief Williams and produce a "Fall of Eden Prime" movie prequel to the games.
Maybe starting with the discovery of the beacon and ending with a dramatic cliffhanger at the point where the mayday message is broadcast to the Normandy.
Not a Shepard in sight, fits continuity and would have people that haven't played the games chomping at the bit to find out what happens next. Maybe even getting them to go and buy the games to find out.
Probably wouldn't work if they wanted to make a sequel though.
Hmmm... Thinking about it some more, a Human / Taurian first contact war movie would also be good.

Love it....but todays movies are all about 13 yrs old, wanting to see big explotion and mediocre sequels so....I hope something like your idea is implemented, or First contact war.......either way, I know I wont see the movie until I see the bootleg version a day or two after it comes out

Jesus Christ. I swear that half the people on forums are retards and have no clue as to what they are talking about. For one, Making the first ME movie about the first contact war would pointless as anything except a prequel. I say this because i'm pretty sure that they're trying to hit a broad audience, most of which wouldn't even know what the first contact war has to do with anything and would be extremely confused as well as alienated. Secondly, the movie probably wouldn't effect ME3 seeing as ME3 is rumored to come out at some point next year AND the fact that the first movie, which would probably be based on ME1, will probably just be moving into production by then. Another thing, making a movie based on the novels would also be pointless at this juncture because like i said about the first contact war, the average movie-goer wouldn't know what the hell is going on or who was who because most people probably haven't read the novels. Also, the novels serve as back story for the series. And to those of you who say it'll be a bad idea putting Shepard in the game, i first pose a couple of questions. Why would they make a movie about a video game series and not put it's main protagonist in it? Why would they not use the script that's already been used for the games? Wouldn't that be the best way to make sure that Legendary doesn't **** it up too much? The problem I have about most people who write on forums in general(although i've seen this especially in the bioware forums) is that most of the people who write on them don't think before they write and make themselves sound like asses. Also, no matter what, you bastards all know you're going to go see it, so you can stop with the charade of "Oh i'm not gonna see it because it's not about the first contact war" and" Oh i'm not gonna go see it if the put shepard in it". waah waah wah. Suck it up and either see it or don't.
This.

It's bad enough that you sold out before even finishing the trilogy (doesn't matter how much they paid you; your pride in creating something that no one else can duplicate or emulate should have been worth more), but if you've got producer's rights, then PLEASE steer this in the right direction.
If you're going to put Shepard in the film (which you probably are, since you want to "do it for the fans," and there's no better way of doing it for the fans than sticking to the main character's plot line, even if it takes SIXTY HOURS to get through in the videogame), make it an actor who knows what he's doing, not Matthew Fox. True, it's difficult to find good-looking actors who also know what they're doing, but there are a few who know better than others, i.e. Ryan Reynolds or Chris Evans. Maybe even Billy Crudup. On-screen Shepard doesn't have to look EXACTLY like "canon" Shepard. He DOES have to convey the emotions and soul of a man who determines the fate of an entire galaxy, but is at the same time forced to come to grips with the fact that he may well be nothing more than a puppet at the very end.
That is, of course, assuming that Shepard has to be a man. Jennifer Hale did a much better job with her lines than Mark Meer (who sounds phoned-in half the time, and stoned the other half), and a female soldier who can walk the walk is about ten-thousand times badder-ass than her male counterpart. The default response may be to stick with what you've got on the game box, but consider how awesome, and rare, a true femme fatale is. "But we've already got a femme fatale!" Miranda is soft and unsure of herself, whereas Shepard isn't afraid of anything, at all. Everything is afraid of Shepard. It would be much more impressive to see a woman doing what a man "should" be doing, with a "man's" emotions. The problem with finding a suitable woman is there aren't so many. If this were twenty-plus years ago, you'd have an automatic win in Sigourney Weaver. Nowadays it's a bit trickier; women are being chosen for roles based on their selling power, rather than their talent. That said, you guys COULD embrace a challenge, rather than running from it. A few names spring to mind, the first of which is Kate Winslet. Ain't a role in the world Kate Winslet can't turn into something brilliant. The next is Angelina Jolie. IF she'll gain weight for the role; that woman needs a burger like daaaaaaaamn. On the other end of the spectrum is Scarlett Johansson, if she's willing to be made to look like a woman who DOESN'T want to wear make-up.
And that's just the role of Shepard.
Whatever happens, do not compromise. Yours is not a story of action without consequence, choice without morals, or (dare I say it) sex without fear. Mass Effect is the greatest science-fiction videogame ever made, and of the best stories ever told in its own right. I want to pay money for this movie and be glad for it.

Let's not exaggerate. You can easily beat Mass Effect in twenty hours even if you do the majority of the sidequests. This includes combat gameplay and interesting but irrelevant dialogue. They could do the story in two hours.l33tShazbot wrote...

In our days there have been a couple movies based om games, like Tomb Raider, Hitman, Prince of Persia, Far Cry ect. and none of them have lived up to their fans expectations and since you now got a bigger fan base then any of these games you have to play your cards VERY careful, because if you get a Sheppard who disappoints the your fans it could ruin the next Mass Effect game.

"At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture,” said Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series.
The key word here folks is "adaptation". Mass Effect 'The Movie' will be the story from the game. I was excited for something fresh, though im sure they wont let this turn out to be rubbish, just look at what theyve created so far. It will be sick.
