Mass Effect Movie announced!

Obviously not. The only staffing overlap will be a couple of higher-ups from Bioware signing off on aspects of the movie, offering advice and feedback. It's not like Casey Hudson is going to go film the entire movie himself on a handheld camera, before spending his evenings by the fire single-handedly programming the entire third game. The movie won't take any resources away from the game development AT ALL.

Seriously, do you think the people who film and produce a movie are the same people who'll programme the game?

Your not the only one, I keep saying that he should be in the movie, Im seeing that people dont want him in the movie because they have their own shepard story and they dont want to get it confused with the default shepard bioware had set for the REAL story. Shoot, I wish they saw my custom Shepard to have in the movie but its not going to happen because thousands of other people would want the same thing. All my Shepard is, is a tough looking military badass with the military haircut and fully paragon. If you did not notice, if you choose the default Shepard on Mass Effect 2, I beleive he is both paragon and renegade but I think hes mostly 70 or 60 percent paragon.MikeDraws567 wrote...
Am I the only one who thinks it makes more sense to have Shepard in this film? He's the character that brings it all together.

Anyway,I don't see anything good coming out of a movie based on a character that's different for everyone.
Bioware, please ignore fanboys. Don't give in. Please, not a movie about Shepard. Do something interesting.

Seems like there is a lot of doubt here. Having Legendary behind the film is a really good thing, hopefully they can get a great director too. I think Bioware knows what they are doing ; they've said they wouldn't do a movie if they didn't think it would turn out well.
People not wanting Shepard in it will only be disappointed- they would be insane to NOT have Shepard and the characters that make the Mass Effect story compelling. Mass Effect is Shepard's story. The first contact war will at most be background to draw people in.
So what if the movie is different than the way we as fans play the games? It's not about you, it's about making a great movie based on a great IP. I think this has the potential to be an awesome sci-fi film, not just a video game movie.

Well said and you know what your talking about. Seriously people, it even says on the MassEffect.bioware.com post Mass effect Movie announced "You can read more about the movie and discuss who you want to be Commander Shepard on the Mass Effect forums here: Mass Effect Movie discussion "Holiday wrote...
Jesus Christ. I swear that half the people on forums are retards and have no clue as to what they are talking about. For one, Making the first ME movie about the first contact war would pointless as anything except a prequel. I say this because i'm pretty sure that they're trying to hit a broad audience, most of which wouldn't even know what the first contact war has to do with anything and would be extremely confused as well as alienated. Secondly, the movie probably wouldn't effect ME3 seeing as ME3 is rumored to come out at some point next year AND the fact that the first movie, which would probably be based on ME1, will probably just be moving into production by then. Another thing, making a movie based on the novels would also be pointless at this juncture because like i said about the first contact war, the average movie-goer wouldn't know what the hell is going on or who was who because most people probably haven't read the novels. Also, the novels serve as back story for the series. And to those of you who say it'll be a bad idea putting Shepard in the game, i first pose a couple of questions. Why would they make a movie about a video game series and not put it's main protagonist in it? Why would they not use the script that's already been used for the games? Wouldn't that be the best way to make sure that Legendary doesn't **** it up too much? The problem I have about most people who write on forums in general(although i've seen this especially in the bioware forums) is that most of the people who write on them don't think before they write and make themselves sound like asses. Also, no matter what, you bastards all know you're going to go see it, so you can stop with the charade of "Oh i'm not gonna see it because it's not about the first contact war" and" Oh i'm not gonna go see it if the put shepard in it". waah waah wah. Suck it up and either see it or don't.

If those people would be in the movie, the Mass Effect fanbase would cause it to be success on it's own. I hope we soon get a list of such a cast being confirmed. For me, it's the only way that movie would be worth watching.
and for me I would not go see a movie about Shepard. I'm not interested in a movie about Shepard. I already know the story of Shepard.
A movie in the ME universe would be great. As others have said there are a lot of good stories. Expand on one of the books or any of the other historical happenings. The first contact war, the brain camp, a spectre's story. An Assari justicar

If this movie gets off the ground it really needs to be about the First Contact War or Anderson before he was given the Normandy. I mean, this is really a chance for Bioware to really expand out their story from all the little conversations from the first and second game. Really, they would limit themselves by making a movie about Shepard.
A perfectly valid point of view. I don't hold that viewpoint myself, but it's reasonable.
Bioware, please ignore fanboys. Don't give in. Please, not a movie about Shepard.
However, I think it's mostly "fanboys" (as you say) that are OPPOSED to Shepard in the movie, mostly under the delusion that it will somehow negate their own Shepards, or become the canon story. As if all future games will take the events of the movie as canon, and ignore our individual Shepards. For some reason unable to accept the choice to watch an alternative, slightly different account of ME1 events, despite having played through multiple different versions of it themselves.
You gave a perfectly good reason for not wanting the movie to be based on ME1 - you don't find a retelling interesting, and want to see something different. That's cool. But that's not the argument put forth by the majority of those opposed to Shep.
I would argue that it's probably the less fanboyish people who wouldn't mind if Shep was in the movie, because they're not so fanboyish as to be so wound up by the prospect of seeing a Shepard who isn't 100% exactly like theirs.

Tali will either be played and voiced by a no name or played by a no name and voiced by a celeb.... You don't hide celebs faces... So i guess you could make her re-breather see through.
I would love a Shep movie, but I would also like a first contact movie. I just know it will be a male Shep movie because it would appeal to a larger audience.
Meh, Lost Fans.

Why would a film about the First Contact War, the Rachni Wars or the Krogan Rebellions make a better film than one about Shepard's fight against the Reapers?
Because from my point of view, those events are only there to add depth to Mass Effect's universe. Same goes for the books and comics. But that's just my opinion. So people, instead of screaming 'We want a (fill in your favourite event here) film!!!', start give valid arguments why you would want that.

Mass Effect has a 'mature' rating. Think the movie will be the same or will they target the larger PG audience and if so what will be lost in translation ?
Just toned down language I guess, and that's not a given. Movie ratings are much more liberal then game ratings.
