Don't let all these "fanboys" get to you and to tell you what to do Bioware, do what you think is best as a team to make sure this movie turns out epic and make sure Legendary Pictures as well as Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avai Arad do the job right. But all I have to say is get the "canon" Shepard in the movie, wont make sense if hes not in it at some point. I don't care if it shows his past or present, just get him in the movie! I dont understand why some people are like " oh im not going to watch the movie because its not my Shepard." Who cares! This is bioware's choice and story! Its up to the producers (Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avai Arad) and the executive producers (Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuck and Casey Hudson) to get it right! hook line and sinker, Done! End of Story!

I care and I'am one of the fans.
And one of the ppl who do not want Shepard in the movie. My choice, my opinion. Nothing more.
You opinion is different and it it only your opinion.
They'll do what they want anywasy, despite waht we think.

But I will said it again. I want new story. I do not want to watch the story I already know well. I want surprise. That will be something interesting.
I do not want something I already have in the game. What is the point in it?

The ME trilogy is Shepard's story.  His story ends with ME3.  This movie won't be out until at *least* 2013 if they ever even finish it.  (Where's the WarCraft, Halo, and BioShock movies that were all in production?)  Me3 will be done.  Not to mention that if it *does* contain Shepard, it cannot involve the Reapers.  Just the chase against Saren would be long enough for a trilogy of movies by itself.

When Im saying they should have Shepard in the movie, I mean that they should show some of his past but not have the movie entirely around him. like then showing some of the wars and stuff we did not see in the game. Kind of like showing the Rachni wars, then Sanxi (if thats how you spell it), then the Blitz with Shepard, and some of his military career as well as showing a short side story of some of the crew like Ashly and Kaiden and how Shepard got Kaiden on his team or somthing. That in my opinion will be a good Mass Effect movie.

Awesome news!!!

Mass Effect truly disserves to be seen on the screen, people who havent played the games sure miss a good story. Mass Effect is like reading a good book in my point view.
And with Hudson & Co with theyre fingers involved makes feel comfortable that this will be a good movie.
Ps. I know you have great music already Bioware, but please Let Hans Zimmer be with you in some of the soundtrack for more epicness! ds.

Change Zimmer (who's good) for Bear McCreary and I'll see it just for that.

Now you want to portray Shepard through events that only 1 out of 3 Shepards took part in?  So you not only want to change his personality and appearance from what people know, but also his history?  That's just an awful idea.  The only way to make this movie and not spit on the idea of 'choice' within the games is to have it completely separate from anything within the games.  The characters in the novels and anything *not* involved with the Reaper plot are fair game.

First Contact War is probably the most likely candidate unless they go out and create a completely new storyline within the IP.  Which would be, by far, their best bet.

where is it stated or even implied that they're making a movie based on the Mass Effect game rather than the Mass Effect universe?  i'm sure they'd love to have franchise going so don't expect any hint of reapers or collectors either.  ME: The Movie will be centered on one thing:  the Mars discovery.  we'll be lucky if humans even set foot on the citadel by the end of the first movie.  likely the First Contact War will be the epic end battle.  you idiots expecting some kind of game plot translation are absolutely delusional.

It is just different opinions, nothing more ;)

I think we all have hope the movie will be great, and all this discussion have its place bsc we are worried.

Look at the movies lately. They are remakes. Nothin original. Most of them based on the stories already told somewhere else. A lot of special effects, little act and story. This is my biggest problem.
I would like to see something new and fresh:? I am a big fan, so I worry...:crying:

PLEASE! I implore any person that will be working on the Mass Effect Movie to heed this advice. I have read much from people on the internet and the fans who understand Storytelling have made it clear what they want. We want a Mass Effect Movie that IS NOT a remake of the games! Know then that this is the crucial difference. Every single fan of Mass Effect plays the games based on their beliefs and each has an intimate attachment to their character's appearance and armor and weapon selection, etc. If this movie is a remake of one of the games, just a direct game to movie adaptation, there will be a MASSive rift among the fans of the game. They will constantly be comparing and contrasting their Shepherd with the one in the film and this will alienate the fans from the Movie. HOWEVER, hope remains for the Mass Effect Franchise IF the movie EXPANDS the storyline. This must be fully grasped if the very real possibility of a new Star Wars or Star Trek is to be produced. The Mass Effect universe is immense in scope with amazing complexity around ever corner and under every layer. Assuredly, this universe allows for another separate storyline, of equal importance to the games, to be fleshed out and explored in the Movie/Movies. Such stories could be early Human contact with alien species, Quarians and Geth, the origin of the Reapers, OR introduce another hero/heroine that has been active while the games have been progressing but has yet to be introduced. WE THE FANS beg the Movie Makers to expand the story beyond the games to prove to the world the right of Mass Effect to stand with such Science Fiction giants as Babylon 5, Star Wars, and Star Trek. If this movie does not heed this advice and act on it then Mass Effect will be one more example of something great that hesitated upon the threshold of victory and sat down and slowly died. What made Mass Effect great was that it was fresh and new to the genre, make this movie fresh within the ME universe, PLEASE!.

(If you agree with these thoughts then quote, link, or do whatever must be done to spread this post. Thank you and Keelah se'lai.)

Sorry, still won't work. Shanxi was in 2157, so too early for Shepard. Rachni Wars was at least 1000 years before ME1, so that's way too early. Geth uprising was 19th Century. And if you show, say, Shepard on Akuze or as a teenage member of the 10th Street Reds, then people who don't play as Sole Survivor or Earthborn might be pissed. And either way you splice it, half of the "core" audience will think Shepard is the wrong gender. Even if you have a ChildShep cameo, people will be pissed that its a boy and not a girl, or vice-versa.

Possibilities if it involves shepard:

Something he does after graduating from the N7 program, meeting Anderson and crewing with him.

The massacre of Akuze

Fighting the Batarians

what about the Skylian Blitz?

There is also that 2 year period where Shepard was dead. There are plenty of aftermath stories, allusions to the game, whispers of Reapers, TIM as well as other ME1 and ME2 characters making cameos. Hell aside from the incident at Virmire, you could have Kaidan and Ashely as leads trying to hold down the fort after Shepard dies.

Hell, a trilogy of the whole ME1 game wouldnt be too bad if they were faithful to the gameplay in a way. Cut up the main quest into 3 parts, throw in some planetary exploring for clues, a geth trap here or there.

There is enough meat to ME to have a story within the game universe without having Shepard though.

Also, shouldn't we have a Conrad Vermer cameo, just for fun?

WTF does it matter if this movie revolves around Shepard. There is NO canon Shepard, and even if the movie would be about Shepard it will just be a canon to MOVIE Shepard, not a Shepard one plays on his computer. Though I support movie that is about something else than Shepard, even movie (if its well done) is based on the games it would satisfy me as I dont care what are the origins of movie Shepard as long as story is good and it is faithfull to ME universe. I would consider it just one possibility of Shepards origins. It might be different from my "canon" Shepard but does it really matter a rats arse? Geez, some people should get out more and not be so self centered about their own characters...

Oh god, this is going to be a movie for the 18 yr old male demographic. Once again, females are relegated to 'love interest'. It might make money, it might bomb, either way it'll be mediocre garbage that sullies the ME game series. EPIC FAIL.

I like the idea of focusing on TIM, and involving the Redemption comic series in the movie. Maybe the new book will cover too much of that, though... even so. I'd like to see what happens to everyone when Shep is dead. In detail. Hell, you could even start with Shepard dying. And then, instead of skipping two years... y'know...?

no this will suck theirs way to much voice talent in the video games and visual actors with different voices will be a major turn off and what kinda story is it gunna be id rather see the continuation of the story in the games not in a mediocure movie so it would have to be a prequil or an epilouge this isn't going to devellope and it wont be successful iwouldn't waste ur money bioware

first contact war!!! please!

The first contact war didn't last very long and not much really happened.

If they made a film, I hope it's not about Shepard, because Shepard is a player generated character, his/her tastes and appearance is different to the individual.

I'm not saying that it won't work or it wont be a good film or people wont buy it, just it might make it a little weird.

OK, I've said my piece. NOW CAN I SEE TALI's FACE!?
