Eventually a Mass Effect movie had to come around, huh? I'll need some time to absorb the excitement and surprise.  Uh... WOW.

The Cell is good, if you only watch it once. After that it loses its weirdness.

Two alternative reviews for this movie when it comes (which it will, knowing Hollywood and their penchant for ruining things for gamers):

Review A: "Mass Effect goes beyond what Avatar did for relatable CG characters, setting new standards for science fiction in general and Hollywood alien movies in particular. Games being made into movies finally have a bar!"

Review B: "It sucks."

My money's on B.

Although your reviews are fictious they represent the idea's of the current population in these forums. 
Review A:  Would seem to be coming from a hopeful outlook based on what little facts are known.
Review B:  Quick emotional response about something which they know nothing about.

I HOPE Shepard is not in the movie and the movie revolves around a different protaginst with maybe small appearences by in0game characters such as Miranda or Liara, but NOT Shepard.

I'm also excited, but I must agree with many of the posters here: I really hope this film works into the plot and everybody's play-throughs (meaning a prequel (First Contact War, Krogan Rebellion, etc.), book adaptation, and so on and so forth) rather than act as a retelling of the plot.

Also, if Shepard is (at all) in this, I bet he'll be male. And default. If it's a prequel and he's in it, my money on his involvement would be a brief cameo in which he's in training, or he's a lower-ranked officer. "Throwing the fans a bone," eh?

I'll wait until they send out plot info, anyway. Blessings to all working on this project!

Matthew Fox as Commander Shepard. With the end of Lost fresh in everyones minds, now is the time for Fox to have more leading rolls.  While he doesn't have the voice, I believe he has the look and the range to pull off a very believable Shepard. I don't think they will need to cast a huge star, Fox will be able to bring in fans and have a lower cost then bigger names and let the budget focus on the story and the effects.  Who would play the voice of Saren? Hugo Weaving... that dude is in everything these days.

The only way I'm watching this movie is if it has nothing to do with Shepard. Nobody touches my fem Shep, sorry.

This movie cannot have anything to do with the plot of the games because the game plots branch and vary so much. To tell that story in the movie would do injustice to the variability of the game's story. A backstory such as the first contact war has potential for an entertaining movie worthy of mention among great action movies like 300 and Watchmen. Also, with the first contact war, it is long before the plot of the games but is still a very key moment in the universe of Mass Effect.



In short: Tell the story of the first contact war.
