Oh wow, a Mass Effect movie. I wonder if they'll have different installs ments like ME 1, 2, and 3. I personally would love to see a Lady Commander Shepard. I mean, don't get me wrong. It'll be epic no matter whom they cast to play Shepard, but for my personal preference I want to see a female play the role of Commander Shepard. The promotional Shepard is a male so it'd be amazing if they somehow flipped the script and made the movie Shepard a female. Although, one has to wonder how they'll work in all the aspect such as Paragon, and Renegade in a way that'll please all the fans. I think they should make this movie a prequel. Like the events leading up to Mass Effect 1.

I think a really good Idea would be at the start to do:



"50000 Years Ago"...



*show the Reapers defeat the Protheans*



Then come into the present day, just before the Prothean ruins on Mars.

All this would have to be explained, don't forget not just Mass Effect fans will be watching. New people and families who have never even heard of Mass Effect will watch. sort of like the New Star Trek, people who had not seen the old went to watch it.

You dont have to show the Reapers and the Protheans 50,000 years prior. The whole Reaper thing should be a massive shock as its not just Saren going rogue and insane. I dont want to be talked down to as a movie goer and treated like I'm 5 years old. I dont need my hand held and every little thing explained. Hints are easily revealed over the course of the movie just like the game.

ME has great potential but video game movies have an awful track record...but that can always change. It depends on how seriously they take the writing. ME doesn't have nearly the huge fanbase as other games so it will be "new" to most people.

Guys... relax. The movie RIGHTS were sold. The movie isn't necessarily a done deal... case and point the "Halo" movie...



That said, if it does happen It'd be interesting if it were about David Anderson in his younger days. The first contact war and introduction to prothean/reaper technology would be interesting too. If it is about Shepherd though... I really don't know who should get it but I think Ethan Hawke might be alright in the role... I'm no expert in casting though so I'll leave that to the pros.

RE-telling of a story is not insulting. You're jsut delluding yourself. This is about selfish desires, you just don't want to admitt it. You complain about a movie before it's out. On what basis? "I've heard that story before?" That is jsut stupid.


That's like saying LOTR the move will suck, because you already read hte book and you have a mental image of how Aragorn should look like. And Viggo Mortessen doens't look liek him. Tehrefore, the move is an insult to all Tolkien fans!

Ranting aside as long as the visuals are the spitting image from the game, the environments, characters, and every desgin are identicle, plus Seth green plays joker and Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda it will be a modern day star wars only infinitely greater. Plus i hope to the Reapers the story is kept 100% intact, exactly the same as the game.

But I agree with you Soronnar. People are quick to assume that just because there are books and comics out that expend Mass Effect's universe, that the film should do the same. It would be wise to just wait and see what the guys who are making this film are gonna do before making assumptions.

Hm. Judging from the movie adaptations that happened in the last years... well, it'll be about smurfs taking over the Earth council (consisting of elfs, humans and asaris, with the latter being little green aliens), they find an ancient artifact, a so called Reaper which will be an planetary gun, but a young monk (raised in a peasant family, and later being a race driver) called Shepard will rise up to defeat them with the power of Force.



In other words: I don't trust this movie. Not yet anyways.

Please for the love of god don't **** up the original story of the games or novels. I know it was stated before but seeing the first contact wars would be really nice. Also please no Hugh Jackman or Keanu Reeves, those guys are so over played in movies anymore its not even funny. Please pick GOOD actor's. <cross my fingers> and hope for the best. Come on Casey Hudson don't let us down.

Why not? Have you seen the fanmade movie made from the cutscenes of the game? It worked surprisingly well, ME games made to real movie could be excellent experience if done right.  There is nothing wrong if the movie is based around Shepard, good stories can always be told again differently. Not everything has to be 100% new as we would run out of stories quite fast then.

And has anyone even said it would be about Shepard? ME has a vast universe that could be infinitely expanded by movies, novels and whatever. Just like Star Wars you know?

This. I think general  ME fans, like Scifi fans in general, are on the "intelligent" (so to speak) side of the fence and generally hate watered down popcorn hollywood crap. Again I hope the director takes the ME universe and its fans seriously, its the only way this movie could succeed.

The rights were sold for Mass Effect.  As in the first game, not the ME universe. It is going to be based on the original game.  But as stated there is nothing wrong with the movie being based around Shepard.

Indeed. Except I wouldnt show Reapers just yet but instead keep explaining that 50000 years ago galaxy was prospering until something happened, they were all wiped out. And then jump to the Mars. Reapers cycle of extinction should be a surprise.
