This is kind off topic, but...

I just looked at the mass effect game when it first showed in the E3 Demo in 06. It's very different from the mass effect game everyone owns. I'm wondering if they should apply night and day battles into the mass effect movie because I think that would be terrifying if they incorporated it to kill hordes of geth in the dark while the buildings are crumbling on the planet shown. (I think it's Ilos.)

However, this may seem better for mass effect 3. If Bioware was able to use crumbling buildings & epic battles in the dark against various enemies, I think that could work.

I would also enjoy mass effect 3 (if this is possible at all) not only control the main shepard, but be able to play as your squad members - like they showed at the 06 demo. That or possibly have 3 squad members in mass effect 3 rather than 2. In doing so, it will create more diversity into its gameplay and gain a significant edge for boss battles. Since, i think, mass effect 3 will have more than...14 characters, i think the capacity for mass effect 3 might be...16, 20, or 24 characters.

Just a thought. :)

agreed

I wouldn't mind a movie showing how Joker became the super pilot he is.  The true underdog movie where the star starts out with so many things against him and rises to be the best pilot in the military.

Honestly this is something i have been looking forward to for a long time ever since i threw down against the Geth in Mass Effect 1. There is so much potential for this series its just unbelieveable although i do express my concern with the stat of how Video Game movies are being put out by Hollywood at the moment. This is a chance for everybody who is working on this project to make everything that we all know and love form the game to come to the film. personally there are many ways you can go about doing a movie for Mass Effect.

I had an idea of a Mass Effect film to which you choose your own path something that would be released for the DVD say you have the base movie that the director wanted to make then with the release f the DVD or Blu-Ray (the only way Mass Effect will be able to play on a PS3 hahahahaha :P) you be able to say choose what happens how lives and who dies thus changing the whole movie entirely but still keeping it true to the Directors vision but, make it to where everybody can have a chance to see where that road takes the Commander thus by expanding the movie experience.

But that is just of a smaller part to the film say you really wanted to go the Extra mile you could have seperate movies to where Shepard is full Paragon or full Renegade and you film them at the same time and release at the same time to see how people react to it or however you choose. Just having two versions of Commander Shepard with the different back stories would explain why the character is acting the way he is. Now having Mass Effect Paragon/ Mass Effect Renegade would be a substantial stance on how movies would be made all the different choice say you implement the choice system to the Home versions those in my opinion would redefine how that is precieved. Honestly you dont even have to make a lot of decisions for the movie but then again the more you have the more defining that movie will be accustomed to you and where you think the character should go from there. if you do a sequel which should be likly seeing as how just doing the first game alone should be a long movie anyways so when the second one came along the Home version of that would have the choices for the first movie could be implimented into the second story and onward. Ultimately it will all comes down to you, the people who are making the movie. I am just saying from the fans perspective that this would be something i would enjoy. Oh and Matthew Fox seems like a really logical choice to Play Commander Shepard don't get me wrong Mark Meer is AWESOME for the game but the fact that Shepard's Face and voice actor are 2 different People might confuse some of the fans thats not to say he cant have a cameo that could say be the voice of his father or something (that would be a nice wink at the fans have a phone conversation with your dad the real Shepard) casting i know will be a MAJOR priority for you all but don't forget there are some people in the game that can still do the movie like Keith Davis should totally be Capitan Anderson no doubt one bit and if we got to Mirianda you NEED to have Yvonne Strahovski play her. The same should go with all the people who played the aliens like Garrus, Wrex, and Tali getting Liara will be difficult though but i know that you all can pull it off.

As a fan i will be seeing this film no matter what, i mean come on its Mass Effect for crying out loud there has not been this big of a scifi epic Since Star Wars (well theres Halo but that does not look like thats gonna happen any time soon) this will be a great day for us gamers to finally look up from the small screen and see a Legendary story come for the small screen up to the Silver Screen. That day will be Epic and i cant wait to see the first live action trailer for Mass Effect. I Know you will not let us down us Bioware if Hollywood tries to take away any of the AWESOMENESS that is Mass Effect stand your ground its better to not have a Mass Effect movie then to have one that utterly Sucks the BIG ONE.

What do you think about that hmmm?:D

Wait a minute!!! I thought the guys at Bioware said that they would not do a movie based on Shepard because everyone's Shepard is unique and different. So they aren't able to come up with a different story within the Mass Effect universe with another bad ass character?

They seemed to do so with Jacob and Miranda for that iphone thingy or whatever it was. Come on man! I'm pretty sure you can do a fresh story for the movie with a cast of characters who know about Shepard or heard his name here and there.

So if the movie is made and it's starring Shepard, I'm guessing it'll most likely be a male Shepard. How are the ladies supposed to feel that they've been totally disregarded. My girl loves Mass Effect just as much as I do. When I told her about the movie, she had the same reaction I did: "It's not gonna be about Shepard is it?" it's been my understanding that when I play the game, it MY story, MY Shepard.

The Bioware guys stated that fact repeatedly in many videos when talking about the first and second games. So why do a 180 on that? Not cool man, not cool at all.

I think this is a brilliant idea. Just so long as they DONT follow sheps story line. something leading up to it, like first contact war, or one following the books would be fantastic however.

My suggestion for Commander Shepard in the movie: Mark Vanderloo because he looks a hell of a lot like him.

He looks a lot like sheppard, because sheppard's default appearance is based on him :P

Anyways i think that with the first contact war, they would be able to not only prevent using shepard, and thus ruining the game experience for many, they can also atract a wider audience than with any other part of the story, mainly because most people like to see humanity win :P

my money is on:

A: First Contact War

B: Saren - Anderson Story

C: Shepard (which i damn well hope they dont!!!!)

This is clearly a terrible idea but as long as a) Bioware make loadsamoney, B) it isn't about Sheploo and c) all film critics that I respect (Philip French, Mark Kermode, James King, Roger Ebert etc) aren't allowed anywhere near it, I won't complain.

Stick to making ME3 guys.

He's more of a 'shapeless chunk of man', than an 'actor'.

I wouldn't want Shepard to be in it. I'd prefer an original story.

The Saren and Anderson story was detailed in the novel mass effect revelation. That book also briefly mentioned the events of the First contact war, but not the details. I think it will be very interesting if it is based on First Contact but the question is, who will the protagonist be? N7 Anderson? D:

Shepard should be a male in the movie, if it will involve Shepard at all. Although the movie could also be about other "places" or "times" in ME universe and not involve Shepard at all, though I doubt it.

Ah yes, "places" and "times" beyond the first Mass Effect game - for which the movie rights were optioned.  We have dismissed these claims.

I think a really good Idea would be at the start to do:

"50000 Years Ago"...

*show the Reapers defeat the Protheans*

Then come into the present day, just before the Prothean ruins on Mars.
All this would have to be explained, don't forget not just Mass Effect fans will be watching. New people and families who have never even heard of Mass Effect will watch. sort of like the New Star Trek, people who had not seen the old went to watch it.

Wha...?
When WE played the game we didn't know that the Reapers existed for real or that they defeated the Protheans for AGES.  Until we met Sovereign it wasn't 100% certain that it was a ploy or just insanity by Saren.  Revealing that before the story starts will ruin it.  It's completely unnecessary and pointless and wrong.

dEsSiCaTa_UK wrote...
Ranting aside as long as the visuals are the spitting image from the game, the environments, characters, and every desgin are identicle, plus Seth green plays joker and Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda it will be a modern day star wars only infinitely greater. Plus i hope to the Reapers the story is kept 100% intact, exactly the same as the game.

I wouldn't go for 100% identical: there's room for improvement especially since they can do so much more when they don't have to render it in realtime.  That said, obvious changes to the style would be a Bad Thing, as would changes to the plot that actually change the story to not fit the possibilities of the game (naturally there's a lot of leeway there since there are so many things you can skip or do in a different order or which a different outcome.  So long as they stick with (or close to) the possible game choices that's okay.  And if they emphasise or cut some bits to make the story flow well, that's okay within reason - if they mess that up then we'll be banging our heads against the wall to try to forget the stupidity of it.
I agree totally about Joker (and Miranda when they do the sequel, but that's not really relevant yet)

Please just don’t make the movie for dumbasses. Mass Effect shouldn’t be just another action popcorn flick, this is sacred. Despite being an action-orientated game, you always got the feeling that something deeper was going on.

This is a nice try, but I am afraid that this will be another stupid movie full of special effects and no plot development whatsoever. They will ruin the characters and the mass effect world.

They've barely sold the movie rights and they've already blown it? Pessimist much?
I'm sure that if it looks like that might happen they'll can it first.  And even if it did it wouldn't 'ruin the world' because the games would still exist just as they do today.
Mass Effect 3 has more chance of 'ruining the Mass Effect world' than a movie does.

I agree with almost everything you have written, even before particular post.  The one part I think I might have a an issue with is, (I don't like only action and CGI movies either) it has to be huge, and with good SFX, and enough action.  The story needs to be there but to believe a story even if it's good, is hard if some charecters look like rubber suits.  The SFX has to be good enough to be believeable.

The action needs to be there because at some point we will find out consequesnces of failing, or not completing the mission in time.  When it becomes appearent what is going to happen, it becomes a race to stop the appearent inevitable.

Please Bioware: my main request is that Jack Wall and his associate's wonderful score carries over into the film.

+1!! ;) that would indeed be awesome!

and thanks regardless, that is so very kind of you to say! :)

*edit* also, I pointed this out months ago, but since there's a lot of "_____ should play _____ because he/she looks like them!" going on, I'll post it again.

Not saying she'd be the perfect actress for the role, but based on physical appearance alone, Megan Fox = Jack?

Hahaha BigGiantCircles, great pic :)

As for my 2 cents, if the movie portrays Shepard:
1) He must be the canon male version that bioware showed
2) His face and voice are not from the same person; the voice is capital! It has to be the same as in the game as it is one of the main aspects of the character
3) The solution to part 2 is -> CGI à la Final Fantasy: Spirits Within (not Advent Children)

If they change from the voice actors the movie will suck, if they really want to change they must show another story in the ME universe.

Wentworth Miller would be good, not Mark Vanderloo.  I know Shepard is based on Vanderloo, but he is based on a much younger Vanderloo, not a present day Vanderloo.  Also Vanderloo has no experience as an actor, he is a model, so i think he could ruin the character.  Also I don't know if Vanderloo can speak english that well, (which is alright) correct me if I am wrong,  it would be very dificult to act well, speaking a in a second language that you are not really proficient in.  Miller is good choice though.

I'm another one for 1'st contact war, please leave shepard far from first ME movie, the better thing should be begin the story from the discovery of the prothean ruin on mars and the first human biotic as introduction, passing thru first contact war and an EPIC  ending with human arrival at the citadel to leave space to a secondo movie  please do THAT

this should be good too for who don't know nothing about me story, and to induce them to play the game
