Nice, but I really doubt Shepard is going to be female in the movie, they will probably look for someone who looks like iconic Shepard (Mark Vanderloo)
Still so, she'd make a very nice Shep.
Also, guys don't delude yourselves anymore, the movie(s) will adapt the game's storyline that's pretty much clear.

Ashley Williams has already been cast !
Awesome! That's Erica Cerra from Eureka, right? She would fit the role perfectly.
Yes, that's her. It's a quick manipulation I did when I read about the upcoming movie.
She would be the perfect Ashley IMO. She looks almost like Ashley and she already showed in "Eureka" that she can play a tough (military) girl and handle even larger weapons.

Funny thing is that if that happened and we get Yvonne Strahovski in the sequel that makes two Australian leads...

Erica Cerra for Ashley.

It must be "Fate" looking out for her, after all, she's already played in "The Collectors" and "Reaper". Coincidence, I think not.

FemShep. That's all I have to say.
thats not even the iconic shepard/ shepard on the cover/ in the cinematics/ in the adverts why should it be fem shep in film
nothing against the fem shep i have one of each gender but it should be the more iconic of the two
While I agree with you, someone else pointed out that there are already plenty of male roles out there of this type, why not let this one go female. There are only a few roles for strong female action lead as opposed to male. And it's not like making a male Lara Croft, this is a legitimate option, one that I hope they make.

A human expedition sent through the Shanxi-Theta mass relay gets wiped out by a turian patrol fleet (seen by the turians as a police action) and a single ship escapes. The humans retaliate and destroy the turian forces, so the turians send more ships and capture Shanxi. They drop orbital debris to kill the defending troops, who eventually surrender because it's wiping out city-blocks worth of civilians in the process. Then the Second Fleet shows up because a message beacon got out, and they kick out the turians who thought the ships they'd defeated were the bulk of our navy (big surprise, unsuspecting turians!) Then when the turians are gearing up for a full scale war the Citadel Council realises it would be a really bad thing and steps in to broker a truce. I see a good amount of people asking for a "First Contact War" setting, but have any of you actually read the book? Basically it was human ships shooting at turian ships from a pretty large distance, this happened for a while until one ship was destroyed. The body count didn't even reach 1,000 for either race.
So it was a lot more than one ship.
But it's a moot point since we know they are doing a movie of the first Mass Effect game.
I really don't want the movie to start with a voice-over monologue from Shepard. "Eezo is this weird stuff that comes from stars and lets us break the rules of science real easy. I don't really know how it works, I just read the manuals."

but personally I think I might actually prefer to see a fem shep for the film.

*grumble* though i'd prefer a separate film but w/e. those who say it won't affect the games are right, but at the same time it's sorta a buzzkill.

Personally I would hate seeing shepard as female not that I have anything against strong female heroes its just that Shepard is and will always be male for me.
And last I really hope they will make a adaption of the first ME game ofc they wont be able to fit all the greatness and freedom of the game into the movie (if you want commander shepard to answer alternative A press the blue button next to your seat). But seeing how all? Game based movies went for an alternative story that had little to nothing to do with the games suckt mayor donkey d*** I really hope to see the ME movie taking a different approach and not remaking the mistakes of its predecessors.

Very good!
Mass Effect - First Contact? The First Contact War is about humanity's encounter with the Turians, and how humanity in the end kicks their ass. To me, that sounds like a fairly generic action sci-fi.
No, they should definately make a movie about the first game. The Mass Effect movie has some nice themes in it, where the humans are actually the aliens in the universe - nobody knows what they can do and everyone's afraid of them, but then Humanity steps up in the form of Shepard, who saves the galaxy and shows what humanity is capable of, and the aliens - personalized by Shepard's teammates - finally learn to trust and accept Humans (or in the case of a Renegade: depend on them.)
Oh and: Who cares about the fact that the plot can branche in the game?
In ME2 it is clear that there already is a default ending of the first game - the one you are served if you do not import a character.
And I'm sorry to say it, but it's also pretty clear from the ME2 trailers that this default Shepard is MALE and that he looks like this: http://larcho.files....-2-shepard.jpg.
Also, we know from the default ending of the first game - that Shepard is basically renegade, though I can imagine, if it's going to be a Hollywood-movie, that they would probably go for the paragon-ending - which personally is also my favorite, since it fits the theme of the first game better, in my opinion.
I have to agree whole heartedly. ME1 would make a great movie premise. To do any of the other suggestions (First Contact, Revelation, Ascension, etc..) would be like making a Batman movie starring Robin, it would still be based on the Batverse, but it wouldn't be "Batman"!
Fortunately, they have leeway in the movie of making Shep more than just Paragon/Renagade since they don't have to worry about filling up a counter so that morality based choices are available later on. In both ME1 & 2 I sometimes get frustrated because I feel "forced" to play one extreme or the other, so my options aren't limited later. Remember the scene from "Wrath of Khan" where "good guy" Kirk finally gets over the Klingon backstabbing mentality and kicks him in the face until he falls to his death, or tells his prisoner he won't kill him and admits "I lied".
I would really like to see a more "Human" Shepard that makes both types of choices.
Only time will tell what we actually get, but my vote is for a femshep that "leans" toward the Renegade, but keeps her word and her own personal morality code.
