So you hope they tell a story that is peripherial and less important then the main story in Mass Effect which is Shepard's story.  I'm not going to say that this direction can't be interesting but lets face it, the main story of ME1 is the only real story worth telling in theaters. 

It has interesting characters, small and large conflicts, grand visuals and introduces the viewer to an interesting future by plungeing right in. 

I'm sorry but all of this "it's not my Shep" stuff is just hilarious.  It's not your Shep.  It's Bioware/EA/Liongates Shep.

I will only be happy with this if it's simply in the "Mass Effect Universe" and doesn't feature any characters from the games, I do not want a canon-ized version of the story!! Man shepard is not my shepard!

This movie cannot have anything to do with the plot of the games because the game plots branch and vary so much. To tell that story in the movie would do injustice to the variability of the game's story. A backstory such as the first contact war has potential for an entertaining movie worthy of mention among great action movies like 300 and Watchmen. Also, with the first contact war, it is long before the plot of the games but is still a very key moment in the universe of Mass Effect.

In short: Tell the story of the first contact war.

This sounds like a terrible idea, how long has this been in production? Have they even done a script?



If this is released before ME3 I will be disappointed, put some effort into it a project liek this should take like 4 years something like AVATAR in visual quality.

I'd prefer some great story before ME1, like another story with Khalee Sanders or Anderson, perhaps meeting Shepard in the end. Something like First Contact War could be an interesting theme.

Mistake is what that would be. First Contact War would be super epic and a lovely way to introduce the Mass Effect universe to the general non-gaming public.

This is very interesting. Could be very good or very bad. I guess we'll see. Either way, the very idea of it possibly being good is enough to make my mouth water. With the amount of enjoyment we have received due to the ME franchise ( and Bioware as a whole ), I want them to make as much money as they can. They deserve it.

my fear of a mass effect film has always been based around how can you fit in the RPG element well and also make sure seth green plays joker or else there will be a roit.

I sincerely hope that the movi will be set in the times before the first mass effect game, in that way it could be explained how Shepard has became so famous.

ALso i would like a LOT a ovie set in the 1 chapter of Mass Effect..

Although, at first, I thought that the straight story of ME 1 would have been a good launch point, I would have to agree with you on this point.  The First Contact War would be good for all involved.  It wouldn't step on any toes of those that LOVE their shepard, it would be accessible to a non- ME fan, it would tell a new story to even the most hardcore of ME fans, and could give the writers etc. a blank slate to create a good hollywood story.

If they put the first contact war as like an introduction to Mass Effect like the end of the Second Age of Middle Earth in LotR, I wouldn't mind.

I can tell you now that there are 10 people in my household that would not go to see an ME movie on the big screen for 12 bucks a seat if it is simply a retelling of the game we already spent mindlblowing numbers of hours playing. Why would we? There are plenty of explosions, special effects, and interesting things to see in which we can be an active participant in.



Now if they do something prequel-ish (Rachni Wars, Krogan Rebellion, First Contact with the Turians) that would be something worth seeing.
