The people who don't want Shepard in the movie... sorry. There is no way they don't use such an iconic action character.
And if that's the case how many people won't touch it with a ten foot pole?
Mistake is what that would be. First Contact War would be super epic and a lovely way to introduce the Mass Effect universe to the general non-gaming public.
*thumbs up*
Best guess is there are about 73 of you who wont touch this with a ten foot pole due to them ruining your Shep/cannon.
Most of you were probably going to illegally download it anyway so I doubt they'll miss much profit from you.
99% of the game fans will not care when Movie Shep is the default shep and makes X choice or romances Liara.

If it's about Shepard, great. I wouldn't mind some establishment on Bioware's part on what's actually canonical and what isn't. The Facebook page for this is covered with whiny people complaining about 'wah wah wah the game is about choice'. Here's the thing: Yes, it's about choice, but that doesn't mean the creators of the story (read: BioWare, not you people with entitlement issues) don't still the final say on if something actually happened or if it was just a 'What If' scenario. As far as I'm concerned, Shepard's first name is John and he looks exactly like he does on the boxart, even if I've used default Shepard in-game. Get over yourselves, people.
If it's not about Shepard, great. I hope they come up with something interesting in this case because the Mass Effect universe is overflowing with potential for expansion.

What's the betting Shepard will be some lame guy though?... Shepard is, and will always be, female to me.

bioware don't let hollywood screw all your work and make a film for the first contact war, maby anderson's story?i don't know but it would be interesting to see the discovery of the prothean beacon and how humanity managed the technological leap..when they first crossed a mass relay and war against the turians etc etc..

Seriously, I'm personally rooting for a Shepard-based storyline. I mean, bringing a wider audience into a franchise with a story that's out of ME1 and 2's story arc would be a little odd...

Looking forward to the movie, but a bit sad because it will probably ruin the premiss we all love in ME, that Shepard is who and how we want him/her to be.
EDIT: By the way, despite my first sentence, I must say I would really love to see a female Shepard. Action films lack credible and well thought up/structured female protagonists. Mass Effect is so well written that the female Shepard is almost a perfect character.

Both of those descriptions are true. Is there anything particularly wrong with that?
And I'm honestly surprised that there are still people who think male Sheapard is not being treated as canon. When you catch a kid with his hand in the cookie jar, and that kid adamantly claims he's not taking cookies, do you believe that he's not taking cookies? Male Shepard has always been canon.

I also think "The Rock" would do an admirable job. I would not argue too badly with Will Smith. If they are going a bit darker, Denzel ala "Book of Eli" or Bale ala "Dark Knight".
Ashley: Morena Baccarin or Scarlett Johansson

If Bioware really wants to be innovative though, they'll do a femshep.
