Why not have the actual voice actors play the characters? The ones with the acutal VOICE of the character and that already look like they could play them? Or at LEAST some unknowns. C'mon. Really.

How will this keep with the feel of Mass Effect? I love RPG's for the amount of choice that they allow players to have, how will a movie depict this or will it just simply be the "good Shepard" story?

I am very pleased this morning to announce that there will be a Mass Effect movie made by the fine folks at Legenday Pictures! I know there has been a lot of speculation amongst our fans ever since Mass Effect 1 came out as to whether or not there would be a movie, who should star in it, who would direct, would there be a Wrex sized bucket of popcorn, etc and I can now reveal that, yes, there will be a movie (popcorn deal is still unconfirmed.
Legendary Pictures, the studio behind great films such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen, The Hangover and 300 have picked up the rights to make Mass Effect. Legendary Pictures will produce with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni along with Avi Arad (who has been behind great films like Iron Man, X-Men and Spider-Man). From BioWare Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuck and Casey Hudson will serve as executive producers.
"At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture,” said Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series. “With Avi Arad and Legendary attached, we believe that the Mass Effect movie will be an extraordinary entertainment event that realizes our vision for the franchise and thrills fans.”
I am super psyched for this and look forward to seeing the Mass Effect movie take shape.
Is it too early to buy tickets?

And from the look of the overall people involved atm it might be a good movie they get out of this, as long as mister ill make this movie Uwe Boll is way the hell away from the project im confident the movie will be watched by people, just as long as he is not involved im going to be a happy camper.
Actors and such for the different roles would be fun to see who they get for the movie.
If it is going to be based on Shepard i hope they get Dominic Purcell to play Shepard, first person i thought of when i looked at default male Shepard.

If you want to make money, then seriously take your time and put up good money for this movie. Remember the Lord of the Rings Trilogy had a price tag of about $220 Million, which enabled it gross a profit of over $2.9 billion. So many video game to movie titles are awful! First off I think Will Smith should play Commander Shepard. Why you ask? Well off top Will would bring the box office, and he had experience in sci/fi and action movies. He's not a dull character and also has the funny and smooth edge. Plus he's very confident in his roles and Shepard is a confident tough character (how tough depending on how you made him).
Also this would have to be more than one movie. Movies with deep plots that come from other sources (games, comic books, etc.) often have that rushed feeling.
My personal request, have the character pick Liara for obvious reasons.
I'd also like to have Keith David as Captain Anderson and the real voice of Admiral Hacket to play Admiral Hacket. Of course Seth Green would have to be play Joker. Those voices already did a good job for those characters and there'd be no need to change them.
So often do are writers arrogant in their movies. I say this because how many movies like this are made witch no regard for the original story. Hollywood normally does what I call "Hollywood" the movie taking control and creates a total failure.
Also I'd suggest the Vanguard/War Hero/Earth Born option (My original character of course). The War Hero having the battle at Ellysian is already a great story in itself, and it the Earth Born would show Shepard's ascent from the Streets to being a prominent hero.
Again take your time on this and good luck! Thanks for the great games.

At the beginning I agreed with some on here it should not have Shepard, but you know they are gonna do it. Come on. I would like a trilogy and maybe a prequel trilogy if the movie is done well enough. Hell if they want to make money let them, as long as i am entertained.
All that being said, I would like to see alot of the voice actors in the film to keep it real for us players.Joker: Seth Green, etc etc. I think all could do a good job in the film and do it justice since they know the plot and universe already.
I am interested in seeing who they get tho.
I do hope no Clooneys Cruises Pitts Reeves or other overused actors. Lets do something fresh and new. Maybe Simon Pegg (Shaun of the dead Star trek) Hell there were alot of great unkown actors in that film and it worked.
Well Here is to hoping.

1) It does not try to re-create the events of the games. Having Shepard as the main character in the movie I would consider selling out, given how rich the universe is.
2) Any previously established non-Shepard canon is not changed in any way to suit the storyline. I'm sick of Hollywood doing that.
Frankly though, I'd prefer a TV series like they did with BSG. That would be awesome.

Though I am still unsure whether to have it about Shepard.... I really would love seeing the characters you met in the game, but the problem is that everyone has their own idea and dream about Shepard. Man... it is pretty much impossible to make every fan of ME series be happy if you are going to chose to use Shepard as a main character in the movies... wait a minute... couldn't it be about some other Specter? I heard that there were only handful of them every time, it would be pretty awesome to see what another specter would be doing.... ehe... anyways... looking forwards to the movie like you all.
Can I pre-order a ticket now? XD

Did you think of that yourself or did you just want to copy what's been said at least a hundred times in this thread already?yf2489 wrote...
They should keep Shepard out of this movie. Make it about the First Contact War or something.
Looks like you've thought this through. Let's hope that they do indeed apply plenty of time, money, and talent to this movie - it deserves as much as something like LotR and shouldn't be a 'second class citizen' just because it's based on a recent videogame instead of some books from the previous millennium. But I hope they intelligently apply said time money and talent rather than just throw it in the general direction of the project and hope enough of it sticksBill the Illusive man wrote...

BIGGEST FACEPALM IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
Jesus, BioWare, what the heck. ME doesn't need a movie, it already is one for christ's sakes. Cash cows.
+1
Terrible, terrible idea. How about adding multiplayer to ME3 and then making a MMO to round the franchise off! Also, how about some Shepard-O's breakfast cereal to eat while I watch?
However, If the film has NOTHING to do with Shepard I'll give it a chance.

I'm personally open to the idea of having Shepard in the movie just to see what will happen, but it'll ****** off so many fanboys because it'll have to establish a 'canon' Shepard, and it would defeat the whole purpose of Mass Effect in the first place.
And obviously, it should include actors who are known for space sci-fi works, along the lines of Nathan Fillion (or anyone from Firefly for that matter), Leonard Nimoy, etc.
Well, there's my two cents.

hearing the Bioware execs are the producers comforts me, in that Hollywood will not screw with what the mass effect universe is. there are tons of stories that do not involve commander Shepard and using those instead of the games storyline would be the right decision.

However, if the people at Legendary Studios decide to make the movie based upon the games, please, please, do everything in your power to get Keith David to reprise his role Captain Anderson and Seth Green as Jeff 'Joker' Moreau. I think I speak for a good majority here when I say I can't imagine anyone else playing these roles.
If anyone else has said this already, I'm sorry but I didn't want to read through 80+ pages to see what everyone else had said.
Gonna go play ME2 now.
