Some of us people are women, who play women, who bought role playing games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age because we could play our story and not be forced into an 18 year old guy's fantasy ....
Then you really picked the wrong game in ME. Everything about this has been SciFi action adventure epic. And male Shepard has been treated as the canon from day one. Even if they kept claiming he wasn't. Again, when you catch a kid with his hand in the cookie jar, do you believe him when he says he's not taking cookies?

But seriously, Mass Effect is already a movie-like experience in its own right. Seeing an adaptation (hopefully not a pile of crap like other games that made their way to the big screen) will be awesome to say the least. Can't wait to see the cast.

And I'm honestly surprised that there are still people who think male Sheapard is not being treated as canon. When you catch a kid with his hand in the cookie jar, and that kid adamantly claims he's not taking cookies, do you believe that he's not taking cookies? Male Shepard has always been canon.
Canon or not. I just want to experience a new story and plot... like the First Contact War.
We've learned about it in the game so why not experience it through film. Making a movie just based off the game just defeats the purpose of making your own choices and it just seems like a repeat to me. IMO a different story and plot while still revolving around Mass Effect universe -- i.e. First Contact War -- is the way to go.

Mass Effect - First Contact? The First Contact War is about humanity's encounter with the Turians, and how humanity in the end kicks their ass. To me, that sounds like a fairly generic action sci-fi.
No, they should definately make a movie about the first game. The Mass Effect movie has some nice themes in it, where the humans are actually the aliens in the universe - nobody knows what they can do and everyone's afraid of them, but then Humanity steps up in the form of Shepard, who saves the galaxy and shows what humanity is capable of, and the aliens - personalized by Shepard's teammates - finally learn to trust and accept Humans (or in the case of a Renegade: depend on them.)
Oh and: Who cares about the fact that the plot can branche in the game?
In ME2 it is clear that there already is a default ending of the first game - the one you are served if you do not import a character.
And I'm sorry to say it, but it's also pretty clear from the ME2 trailers that this default Shepard is MALE and that he looks like this: http://larcho.files....-2-shepard.jpg.
Also, we know from the default ending of the first game - that Shepard is basically renegade, though I can imagine, if it's going to be a Hollywood-movie, that they would probably go for the paragon-ending - which personally is also my favorite, since it fits the theme of the first game better, in my opinion.

And don't forget about In the Name of the King - and it had alot of decent actors and still bit.
I never knew watching a movie starring Jason Statham, Ray Liotta, Ron Perlman and Burt Reynolds could make me that naucious.

Serioously, the game plays like a movie as it is. You already see spectacular cinematics, why on earth would you plunk down money to see the same thing rehashed when you already spent hours doing it better at home?

I would love to see a pregame scenario. IE play through one of the character builders possible histories. Like the lone survivor or even the ruthless had to kill someone people didnt agree with but "He gets the job done." I just hope the "Shepard" isn't a goody goody. Another cool idea for the movie would be to follow around Captain David Anderson on his trials to become the first human spectre.
I WILL HATE YOU if you don't put in a Thresher Maw, and pull it off without it looking like it was made of plastic or way too CG.
How about the discovery of the first jump gate?
or
the a plot surrounding the creation of the genophage that is wiping out the krogan? that would open up the possibility of having a cameo from a character from both games.
my only real concerns about this movie, because honestly a movie made from a video game is rarely(if ever) up to snuff, is they waste all their time and money on getting actors that look good but cant act for crap, or spend all their money on a hot chick to play a love interest that is constantly seconds away from showing her "Bewbs" to the teenage audiance. I'm positive the film company is gonna try and say "thats what everyone wants." bewbs are nice, but they dont take a crap movie and make it good.
I wouldn't be against a female Lead as long as she was no nonsense get things done kinda woman, without being a super model. Because as far as I can tell, a person like shepard wouldn't have plastic surgery.
I also wouldn't be against a "Renegade" shepard, in fact that could possibly be better then a paragon in every way but a couple. those couple being, you lose out on alot of emotional connection by leaving out good actions.
OH OH OH OH, if you wanna saty with the "TRUE FEEL" of the game, set up an online survey/character builder. Have the player base build the kind of shepard they would want to see in a movie, and try your damnedest to put that into play. It would allow the people who hate the movie to blame someone other then the people who made it(that will help you stay in the good graces of the community), as well as continue the idea that every play through can be diffrent.
