At that point I'm pretty sure just about everyone is.

WINNER!!! That look says it all. Hey, do you guys think Ash is biracial?

In ME1, it appears that they tried to blend racial features in a lot of the characters to make Earth seem like one big melting pot, in a way - which is especially apparent, IMO, in Ash, Kaidan, Anderson, and Udina.  I'm not sure why they seemed to pull away from this in ME2, but I rather liked it, personally.

Most people seem to think Ash has some Latin blood, which I certainly don't disagree with.

Italian maybe? That would explain that quick temper of hers.

One of my favorite pics of Ash.   Who in the hell says she has no character.  One of the best characters in Mass Effect.

Top 10 factors that will include Ashley's hands in ME3.

While I lol'd (ha! number 9!), this list is better suited to being shared in the group link in my sig.  We get watched by the mods up here in forum-land, and they don't like these kinds of things nearly as much as we do.  :)

If she indeed had no character, then no one would hate her. Yet, for some reason, people do hate her; therefore, she has character. And I do say she's got a great character.

She has a very strong character. So you really either love her or hate her.On a side note, I've found just about everyone that falls in the "hate category" doesn't have a full understanding of her character in the first place.

Same goes for people who call characters (mostly Kaidan, I think) "whiny". Sounds more like an excuse because the character annoys them for some reason, but they don't know why.

I never thought of Kaidan as whiny, but I can see how someone who is less willing to examine his character might classify him as such. If you don't even think about something, it is the easiest thing in the world to come up with conclusions about that thing that are as far from truth as could possibly be, but that you are convinced must be true. Not a whole lot of people are willing to do much thinking when it comes to Ashley.

You know they wouldn't hate the characters if they got a chance to know them.  Don't stop talking to them and base your opinion on the first thing that comes out of their mouths. You might find out this is a complex human being with layers upon layers of opinions and feelings.  And yeah, you might not like them in the end, but you should respect them... after all diversity is the most important thing.  But Hate, come on are we 4 year olds.

Ashley is complicated and intricate and if you make a pop decision on her you miss the most interesting part of her charcter. IMHO

okay, I should warn you, I get wordy...Image IPB

Jacob gets a lot of hate too. But I just used him from start to finish in my canon game as my ashley replacement and he really isn't a bad squad mate at all. Of course, I did mod the game and give him an assault rifle, because he sucks with a shotgun.

In case you were wondering, I needd an alliance marine squad mate, and jacob was the closest I was going to get.

I really only hate Morinth, I dislike one other and am ambivalent towards a few but I can't say I hate any of the rest. All the characters (except Morinth) are either very well executed or at the very least have cool or interesting moments.

I think it all comes down to how some characters resonate with certain people and not with others. I've talked to a lot of people who claim to hate Ashley. The ones who I can actually engage in conversation with all after some prodding admit that it's more that Ashley just didn't click with them then any game-breaking flaws in her character or dialogue.

I think it's great that there is a series with so many different characters that can appeal to so diverse a fanbase.

Most Jacob hate I see is from the romance. I like Jacob, but when my FemShep speaks to him and sounding like she wants to jump his bones already... x.x

This is so very well-said.  Almost all of the Ash hate that I see is from people who just don't want to try to understand her.  It does take effort - which I find appealing - to peel back the layers, but I can understand how it might be off-putting to some.  Still ... at least we know and appreciate her for who she is!

The people who say Ash is racist are probably racist themselves...just trying to hide their shame
by criticizing  a video game character the don't even wanna take the time to get to know.<_<

I actually feel that it's somewhat hypocritical of gamers, who have collectively shot and killed more aliens than any number of action heros in sci fi movies/novels/TV series, to suddenly get all preachy about Ashley merely stating that she distrusts aliens.

It's like they are standing knee deep in twenty kilograms of bullet ridden alien intestines and wiping their brightly colored blood off of their space helmets and then shouting at Ashley that's she's 'racist'. I dunno, for some reason I always tend to laugh at this situation.

Ashley is a Xenophobe rather than Racist yet most people cant even spell the first word so they default to the second. Sad she reverts in ME2 back to her old self.

True, Shepherd wasn't there to keep her centered. She had lost her kindred spirit. I don't care what it takes or what I have to do, my Shepherd will regain the love of his life in ME3.

I'm not sure that either truly applies. She doesn't seem to hate or fear aliens I think it's a sense of she can't truly blame the people responsible for her family disgrace, the Alliance.

Yeah, I'm with Jhon on this one.  I think she's more skeptical than anything else towards aliens, and I think a large part of that can be ascribed to the bias the Alliance carriers against her grandfather.  I'm farily sure her opinions on aliens would differ if not for Shanxi.

Yeah, I agree.
Although I also think part of her distrust of aliens might have been because she has a complete lack of experiance working with them having spent a lot of time on groundside missions, so lacking proper experiance all she really has is her family's history to go on. That's why it was so interesting to see her go through her character arc in Mass Effect 1 as she starts off distrustful and uncertain but is also able to move past that and start to trust aliens more. To me it implied that she had come to trust aliens over her experiance working with them and just needed that one final push in the right direction to make her trust them completely.

hate towards character...besides Morinth(dunno who would want her in the squad anyway)...i don't hate other squadmates just dislike
Liara and Kaidan(yep..sorry..just don't like him very much....true that mos tof it is becuase his VA..but i also don't find him very interesting)...and Liara because of her char and voice...she sounds like an old woman...
for me...Ashley and Miranda are the best made characters...followed closely by Jack,Jacob and Wrex...the others are somwhere in the midlle
as for Xenophobic...i can see Ashley sometimes coming as Xenophobic...but given her lack of experience and familly past with aliens..it's understandable...
