Anyone else think that Ash would watch the bond films? Speciffically the Brosnan ones, since GOldeneye is awsome that tank chase was so cool.

Considering she's a fan of classic literature I think it's very likely she'd at least be open minded to the idea of watching James Bond movies despite them being, by this point, something of historical relics, I reckon she'd watch them if she got the chance.

If you had to guess what is Ash's favourite genre on music?

I think she likes a mix of things, like most people.  Probably some of the club tunes to fine-tune her dance moves, maybe some classical when reading or concentrating on something, hard rock or 80s hair bands when running, maybe some hip-hop.  I also happen to think she'd like show tunes, on occasion, though it's a pretty unpopular stance around here.

Wow just got hate on Facebook over liking ash. People posted like a wall of text that incorrectly stated things about her (see Racist and ugly).

Nice work, Giggles!  It's always hard to argue with people over the racist / ugly statements - not because they have valid points or reasonable things to cite, but because they simply don't want to listen to any other viewpoints.  I can understand not liking a character (there are several that I don't), but I'd far prefer if it people could just say that they don't like Ash as opposed to making ad hominem attacks.  Of course.... they're also nuts not to like her!  Posted Image

Indeed, only madness could prevent people from seeing the good side of Ashley, the side that certainly isn't hard to find either.
Still, has anyone noticed that whenever people hate on Ashley, they mention apsects of her personality and then stereotype them? Like she distrusts aliens, has to be because she's racist, or she's religious so therefore she has to be a bible bashing fanatic. At one point I actually heard people claim that she kills 'in the name of her god' and that she 'hates' aliens because they 'aren't crafted in humanities divine image'.
I swear I was l left staring in disbelief for like two minutes as I read that.

So yeah I agree, it's somewhat pointless to make arguments against people like that, as they are just going to continue to see whatever they want to see.

I see a HUGE anti Ashley snowball forming and it's our job to melt it. They say the same thing over and over because, that's ALL that they can say.  Blah, blah, blah racist. yap, yap, yap bible thumper.......SSDD. When I play ME1 Ashley NEVER leaves my squad and I will do the same in ME3. I will turn her and her boomstick loose on any mofu that gets in the way. Come to think of it, isn't it time Ashley had her own squad? She has the experience and skillz so, why not? She was sent to Horizon on her own, why not let her roll with her own crew?

Here is a video from our very own LiamN7 which does a good job debunking these sorry excuses for Ash hate: Spread it around!

I'd say, given her tough marine attitude, she'd probably like some forms of classic rock. Although she also danced quite joyfully to the techno music in Flux so she's probably a fan of that too and she might like just some general soothing music although she wouldn't listen to it a lot, probably just enough to help her relax.

We've actually discussed this before. My position is that she would probably be a fan of several different genres. From the techno-crap that seems to be all the rage in the future to older kinds of music. I mainly see her liking rock of various kinds, country, (Yes, I said it!), and occasionally classical.

Does anyone find it wierd that none of the LI seem to have a problem romancing the Ruthless Shepards? I mean you have this dark reputation and they mention it once.

Although my only Ruthless was a broken individual, since he was a colonial kid who did it to get back at the batarians. I was suprised that Ash only mentions it once I think.

Yeah, I was a little shocked there wasn't more talk about it or people shying away from you a bit. It could have added an interesting component to the talks with the various squaddies.

It would have been nice if they allowed you to role-play it a bit as either someone who doesn't regret it at all or someone who wishes everyday they could've done it differently. It could've helped make Shepard a bit more human to have the LI help him/her work through something. The other backgrounds would provide similar opportunities as well.

Well my current shep who romanced her (Spetznas style type of dude) is haunted by what he did for sure. Gunning down people who surrendered in a rage marked him as badly as the Beacon did.

Thats one thing bioware games lack really. Everyone expects you to be some Goddam Hero who cant vent (the locker scene in ME1 was well done). PCs in DA, ME, and Jade Empire have gone through hell and dont come out fazed at all?

Pretty much its like:

S'cool I am a hero, heros dont falter or worry about the future at all.

This is why I like Nolan's batman since he is clearly a wounded and conflicted person.

Aww, no one took to my "Ashley Williams Facts" idea :(. Oh well, some ideas are bound to not take well. No biggie

My answer to this is kinda long. Personally I agree with everyone else in that she is open to most types of music.

However, and I know I already mentioned this before, Ash's favorite music, imo, would have to be Hard Rock/classic Metal. It could be my elitism about Rock/Metal being the most sophisticated types of music besides classical (and its interesting that classical music is a HUGE influence on metal), but I really think Ash's personality fits this being her favorite type. I remember (though I don't remember who on here talked with me about this) a mention that Ash probably listened to Iron Maiden back in her college years, and that totally makes sense to me because not only does Iron Maiden kick ass, but they frequently make use of, makes songs based on, and reference epics and poems, and THAT of course would draw Ash to their music.

Besides all that, she reminds me of all my female friends who are metalheads.

That would be Thandie Newton. While she is too old to play Ashley, she would be good as her mother.

So, might be time for a new discussion topic ...

Ashley's name comes with a stigma in the military, but do you think she had to suffer similar treatment in the civilian world?

Excellent suggestion Indigo, Thandie Newton would be a great fit to play Ashley's mother. As far as I can tell, Erica Cerra would be spot on to portray the role of Ash. Her character on Eureka is a former Army Ranger, she's tough, independent and doesn't take crap, just like our girl. She also has a sensitive side that she rarely shows but, when we do see that side of her, you get a whole new understanding of her character. If you haven't seen the show, you should check it out on the SyFy channel on Friday's. Truth be told, Erica is the ONLY reason why I bothered watching the show to begin with.

It seems unlikely that many people would think that her last name Williams was the same Williams that surrendered to the Turians but I reckon some people would probably put two and two together and figure that this was General Williams's granddaughter, odds are quite a few people would respond quite harshly to her because of that, especially the people in Terra Firma, would be quick to judge.
Though for the most part, I think her family name is mostly just getting bad recognition from the Alliance and that most civilians born after the war probably aren't all that concerned.

I doubt it, unless people knew exactly who she was. If people did find out who she was, I'm sure that there would be people who would probably understand the situation that her grandfather was facing........AND of course there are the Terra Firma people who would probably want to tar and feather her. Overall, I think that people would overlook what happended at Shanxi knowing that she helped stop the attack on the Citadel and save many human lives.

Yeah, I agree with this. By now I think Ashley's name should be considered 'cleared' at least as far as Civilian perspective is concerned.
Terra Firma might still have issues with her family but let's be honest, who cares what they think?

Concerning music, I think that Ash may listen to some of the stuff mentioned, but as a historical oddity perhaps. After all, the game is set in 2183, so by then there could have been any number of super bands and styles lol. Still, I peg Ash for liking classical, since she likes classical poetry. Hard to say what sort of "everyday" music she would like.

I think Ash's actions in ME1 would certainally go a long way to clearing up the family name, though there will most likely always be the hard liners who look down at her. I think that after ME3, provided she and Shep survive, those people will become part of a very small minority. I think it will finally bring closure to Ash and her family.

I've had a look and let me tell you, it's awesome. Has some good footage from Mass Effects 1 and 2 and of course I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say I approve of the footage of Ashley in this video. Too many other fan made videos ignore or don't give her enough attention, but you did it perfectly.

Kudos.

EDIT: Incidently, I actually favourited that video, that's how good it was. Seriously, thanks for sharing. Ash fans always approve of videos that can combine epic action scenes with moments of romantic tenderness between her and Shepard.

... or perhaps 'approve' isn't quite the right word.:P

Thanks V-Rex! :) You're right about what you say. For example I always give attention to Ash because she's my favorite female character and I consider her the "official girlfriend" by John Shepard! I hope to find Ash amongst my teammates in ME3. :D
