Hypothetical question: if Ash and Shep got married, who do you think of the crew she would and wouldn't invite? My Shep would invite everyone, but Ash might not like Jack or Legion being there for example. The next problem is deciding who to take part as best man for Shep. One of the team mates? Anderson? His dad (spacer origin)? Who will Ash choose for her bridesmaids? Her mom, sisters? Some of the crew? Or do you think they would simply have a very small very private ceremony, family and Anderson only?
I think possibly Garrus and Tali and maybe Wrex and Liara. It all depends on how much she's grown to trust and like them especially given that they haven't worked together in two years. that said, she seemed to like Tali so I can see her considering Tali a 'friend'.
Still I could definetly see Joker and Chatwas getting invited.
That said I really think it would be more of a 'family' thing and even though Garrus might be Shepard's best friend, to Ashley he was more of just a teammate although she still seemed kind of upset that Garrus was working with Cerberus as well as Shepard implying that she too might have developed some degree of respect for him.
Still I see her as being more of a family sort of occassion, that said I'm not sure a strong willed woman like Ashley would really be that 'into' the idea of marriage, let alone the idea of making a huge ceremony about it.

Eh. I reckon she might be ready to be rid of the "Williams" tag. But only once she has restored its honor and can leave her sisters to it in good conscious.

Possibly but then again if she feels she has regained the former honor of the Williams name it's possible that she might decide to wear the name like a badge featured proudly.
After all, she went very far to try and secure her family name's honor and so it seems unlikely she'd abandon it as soon as she has succeeded.
Maybe she'd do what my sister did and marry but keep her maiden name anyway.

Ash can keep her own surname or take Shep's, either sounds fine. Ashley Williams or Ashley Shepard. What she must not do is double barrel it, as Ashley Williams-Shepard doesn't sound right, nor does Ashley Shepard-Williams. Then again, knowing Ash, she might just do it anyway, to celebrate their union. They would have to name their kids carefully though, to avoid any ridiculous things. Just my 2c

Thanks a lot Zeuss! Now it just bothers me, that I cannot recall where this quote is from. I'm almost certain I did see it somewhere ingame, but I don't remember. I checked the codices of both games, but couldn't find anything.
With google I found this text in Ash's wiki-entry, but there must be a source for it ...

in a happy ending i could see her restoring the honor in her familly name...otherwise i don't see the Alliance idiots ever doing so..no matter what Ashley does

Even if Ash dosent want to make a huge ceremony out of her and Shepard's wedding, the media will. With Shepard and his crew (that includes her) saving the galaxy as there day job, they have become hero's and the media will be following them around like vulchers. So even if Ash dosent want to make a big deal out of it, the rest of the galaxy will, especially the Alliance, with her family name blacklisted and then restoring her family name to become a Alliance hero, and Shepard being the saviour of the galaxy.
I think she would want to keep it small, but i can see her inviting the SR1 crew, maybe SR2 (if she works with them and likes them in ME3) Her bridesmaids would probably be her mum and sisters most likely, (imagine if Tali was one, in a little Quarian bridesmaid suit lol) Anderson will play a big part, giving Ash away, or as Shepard's best man, but i can also see Garrus or Joker as best man. I think Legion will be accepted if the Geth help save the galaxy. Jack would probably find weddings too soft, Grunt would probably come for the cake. I can see Wrex coming, his and Ash did'nt see eye to eye at the start of the game, but after awile i felt a friendship building between them, probably respecting each others combat skills. I think one of Badpies fanfics that included Wrex probably made me look at them as friends more though.

Subject: Re: Hey sis
James left today. He's been reassigned to one of the new Rapid Response Bases out in the Kepler Verge. Lucky bastard. It's like the ancient west out there pirates and slavers coming out of the Terminus Systems all the time. He gets to play the cavalry, riding out in frigates any time someone's house gets burned down.
I made some speech about how he was a valuable asset to the squad and he better make us look good out there, blah blah. I suck at speeches. I was cribbing from something I read back in history class. I don't think anyone noticed.
I'm going to miss him. Don't tell anyone.
So you think James is cute, eh? Yeah, well, when you said I should "go for him" not gonna happen, kiddo. See, we have rules about "fraternization." You don't do The Deed with your fellow troops, especially if they're under you in rank. There's all sorts of problems that can happen when two people in the same unit get together.
Let's say your unit is in a tight spot. Some bug-eyed aliens are going to overrun the galaxy. They eat babies, smell bad, and don't have elbows. Nasty. You're told to guard the rear. To let everyone else escape, someone is ordered "hold this spot until we're gone." Someone has to be left behind. You think it's going to be someone you're sleeping with?
I've served with these guys for eight months now. Yeah, some of them make me feel tingly (and yeah, James was kinda scruffy-cute). I hope I never have to decide who lives and who dies. But if I have to, my decision can't be muddled up by magic-sparkly-hearts-and-stars feelings.
Anyways, I'm gonna knock off here. I've got dog watch in a few hours. Want to get a shower and a meal before then. Talk at you tomorrow.

So they are from the official Mass Effect site, makes them more or less as valid as any ingame source. Although I got the feeling the entries there have not been by the same person who was in charge for the writing of Ash's character for the game .. but then this may be because I do not completely agree how these sources presents her character :-)
Bak to recent topic:
If Ash and Shepard are going to marry, I think they should make two wedding ceremonies. One for family and close friends, and one other that will most probably a pure marketing and media show. And I'm dead sure both of them will hate it, but as they are also brave supporters of the Alliance they will bear it.
If I should guess for family and close friends the follwing will be invited:
Both Mam's
The sisters
Tali, Wrex, Garrus, Liara and Chakwas.
If Ash has a chance to meet the SR2-crew I think they may also invite Samara and Grunt (if Wrex wants to bring him).

And of course of all of them, the one with the most badass attitude would be the bride herself who instead of a bridal waltz with her man, has instead a bridal spar. Because the Williams women are toughened to the core.
A badass wedding really but with good emotional content woven into it.
Incidently, new topic:
We all know Ashley loves poetry and classical literature but if you had to imagine a single piece that she would use to express her feelings of love (possibly at a wedding) what do you reckon she would choose?
Personally I don't know much classical literature so I would still go with the classic 'O Captain my Captain' or 'Death closes all'. But what about the rest of the Ash fans, what do yo reckon?

She seems to have a real liking for Tennyson's work, so maybe Marriage morning or something.
Light, so low upon earth,
You send a flash to the sun.
Here is the golden close of love,
All my wooing is done.
Oh, the woods and the meadows,
Woods where we hid from the wet,
Stiles where we stay'd to be kind,
Meadows in which we met!
Light, so low in the vale
You flash and lighten afar,
For this is the golden morning of love,
And you are his morning star.
Flash, I am coming, I come,
By meadow and stile and wood,
Oh, lighten into my eyes and heart,
Into my heart and my blood!
Heart, are you great enough
For a love that never tires?
O' heart, are you great enough for love?
I have heard of thorns and briers,
Over the meadow and stiles,
Over the world to the end of it
Flash for a million miles.
Or maybe The Green hills of Earth by Robert A. Heinlein, that Ash was originally meant to recite.
Let the sweet fresh breezes heal me
As they rove around the girth
Of our lovely mother planet
Of the cool, green hills of Earth.
We've tried each spinning space mote
And reckoned its true worth:
Take us back again to the homes of men
On the cool, green hills of Earth.
The arching sky is calling
Spacemen back to their trade.
ALL HANDS! STAND BY! FREE FALLING!
And the lights below us fade.
Out ride the sons of Terra,
Far drives the thundering jet,
Up leaps a race of Earthmen,
Out, far, and onward yet ---
We pray for one last landing
On the globe that gave us birth;
Let us rest our eyes on the fleecy skies
And the cool, green hills of Earth.
