Gotta agree with Silver here. Being one thing doesn't exclude the other. I have always seen Ash as tough and sweet. Being able to stand toe to toe with any man doesn't me she doesn't or cant act feminine. She acts according to the situation. So not much of what Ash does or would do surprises me really. Ash has never been one dimensional.The guessing Ash's sexual past is also a conversation I just have never been able to get into.

It was , is , and shall be Ashley.

@V-rex:

I have a problem with the basic premise of your question. Yes, Ash is a tough marine, but she's also a woman - she comforts Shepard and proves nuturing when appropriate with him and with her sisters. I don't think one needs to be "sweet and essentially girly" to be a woman; Ash proves that.

I know, I agree with you entirely. I just figured it would be a fun conversation of some kind. I most certainly agree that she can be a woman without having to be girly, in fact I like that part about her very much, I most certainly didn't mean to come across in any way as offensive I just wanted to start a conversation.
It was sort of a joke thing, that's all.
That said now that you mention it I can see why you would get annoyed by said statement and I apologise. I'll change the topic to something else in a second, to be honest I wasn't so sure about that topic and whether or not it would sync.

Furthermore, I didn't respond to the question about her sexual activity yesterday because I find it entirely irrelevant and somewhat insulting. So what if she slept around? Who are we to judge her for any choices she's made in that regard?
Part of being a strong and empowered woman is that you don't need to wear a chastity belt or have pink bows in your hair to be recognized as sexual, attractive, and feminine.

I must not have made myself clear before, in my question I was merely asking if Ashley would be the kind of woman who would have an open sex life or if she would be the sort to only have emotionally serious relationships. I didn't mean to judge either way, it was just a bit of curiosity on my part. I personally have always thought that open confidence in one's sexuality would be something empowering for a woman, especially one as strong and independent as Ash.
Again, I wasn't sure if that topic would float and I probably should have given it more thought before I posted.

I also certainly agree that Ashley doesn't need to wear ribbons in her hair or anything of that nature to come across as feminine, in fact I find that very idea absurd. Part of what I like about her is the fact that she still has a clear feminine side present and that it perfectly intertwines with her toughened side too. I certainly didn't mean to cause any kind of offense and I really hope that I haven't lost any good standing with the Ashley Williams Support Group in the process.

I agree, I honestly think I wasn't thinking straight when I made that post or I didn't word myself properly or just didn't think about what I was saying.

Still I have since changed the topic, now it is about personality traits you liked about Ash in Mass Effect 1 that you would like to see further development of in Mass Effect 3.

Do we really need a 'debate moderator' to force this thread along?

What was wrong with just going with the flow?

I agree with you Silver. Just to throw this in, I've always seen Ash as a very feminine character though and the way they handled that was one of the things that drew me to the character in the first place. Ash was never being pigeon-holed into a 'one of the guys' type mold. She's a woman, a very 'normal' one at that, who just happens to be a badass marine too.

@Razer: debate moderator?

Thanks V-rex. I didn't figure you meant anything by it. The thing that I always loved about Ash is the depth of character. She isn't just one thing. Ash on horizon didn't surprise me. Shep on horizon did. Ash is soft enough to cry or give Shep a hug, while at the same time able to kick his butt or possibly shot him in the leg if need be. : ) God I love that woman.

Too true, she wasn't just one note and never really conformed to any stereotype and she was still able to come across as feminine even through her toughened exterior, but not just that, they were actually woven almost perfectly together. She was a strong believable female character and probably one of the better ones I've seen in modern day gaming.

But still I was hoping we could rope this wandering steer back on topic so with that in mind, Liam, if you had to pick an aspect of Ashley's personality that you would like to see further development of in Mass Effect 3, which would it be.
I mean ideally they all would be but if you had to pick just one, which would it be?

This I like it has weight .

Greetings Ashley thread just making my round thought out drop by and see whats going with my favorite  Alliance Marine.

Ashley is one of the best female characters in modern day gaming. She  ranks in the my  top  ten along with  Lighting, Fang, Elika  and  a few others. Thats why I don't want the stupid you previous  LI coming back  being a jealous if you picked a new LI  in ME 2.   Since I romanced Ashley in  ME 1  that would totally take away from her Character, she is not the catty **** syndrome type.   It would totally destroy the character and to be rather honest its just childish  story telling.

We already know exactly how she'd behave in such a scenario.

Hey Ash thread! Just stopping in go give my support.

Going back to what you all were talking about, I think Ash is the sporty type but is a little bit girly. I mean, she is wearing makeup in-game (though it's very light). She reminds me of the type that would wear cause bracelets and a hair tie on her wrist.

For ME3, I hope she'll be back and that they'll explore that flirty side that she shows Shepard during her romance. She's quite the saucy minx :)

At least Ashley is mature about it. I really like how she is still playful in this video. Oh well people made their choice and then made more choices in ME2. Come back to us in ME3 Ash.

Epoch... thank you for posting my favorite part of ME2. That's what I want to see more of in ME3 - the love, the Shepley, the reason I play this game series. <3

Also I will once again put emphasis on the other topic I made:

What parts of Ashley's personality would you like to see get fleshed out more in Mass Effect 3?

even though  my Shepley ended, What I need is for her to come back and pull some  Epic last late minute save Shephard ass  intervention.     Showing no matter what she lives the Marine motto, even after the Horizon..

That would be awesome
