What job do you think Ash would do in the modern military (Western military's, US, Canada, UK, France, Germany etc.) Because women can't serve as Infantry?

I can see Ash as a combat engineer or something like that, maybe artillery. She would still be able to take the fight to the enemy, and she get's to blow a ton of sh*t up

My reason for this answer? Even if she cant be infantry, I'm sure Ash would want to be in the thick of the battle, and not on-base 24/7.

Air force, fighter pilot. Definitely.

I don't know, I just can't see her outside some kind of ground-based role.  Not to mention that as a fighter pilot, Ash would be separated from her boomstick.

She'd just have extra-large boomsticks.:) Or she might name her plane "Boomstick".^_^

Well, in that case, I approve.

Personally I think if Ashley was in the regular modern military she'd probably be infantry just like she was in Mass Effect.

Though I also believe she has the skills required to actually be special forces or at least maybe the rank of Sergent.

Hmm, well, I think this is where the since women can't be infantry part of the topic comes in.

Seriously?
Man, that sucks.

In that case, I would say pilot. Or engineer.

Yeah in modern western militarys women cant serve as infantry, although alot of people are pushing for it. At the moment though women can fight alongside infantry units as a attachment, but not part of the unit itself, there has been alot of this happening at the moment in Afganistan.

So I can see Ash pushing for it, playing her part in a role where she is likely to get a attachment to a infantry unit, as a combat medic, military police, combat engineer, or Artillery. Maybe IT and communications, aslong as it's a field role, and not on-base.

Judging by her actual skills though I would say Combat engineer, or combat medic are most likely, she has a first aid skill, but she is the one who works on the guns when on ship, so combat engineer for that.

I think that any of Ashley's sisters joining the Alliance would be a surprise to her. I do not know how much rivalry that might occur, but I say Ashley has a head start for sure. Hey maybe the sister would get the same Drill Sargent as Ashley and Shepard.

Also I'm trumping Errol Dnamyx Ashley Image.

Yea I have Talking Ashley....just try and beat this.

This is by far one of the most awesome things I've seen on the internet :o. I'm guessing (and hoping) that no other character support forum has such a cool thing! Its like a VI soundboard of Ash!

Bravo, VutaatVerd!

I'll be honest: I'm more of a Kaidan girl. But I killed Kirrahe in my last game, which means Ash was the one radioing status reports. Brooks is an amazing VA and really nails the entirety of Virmire. I felt guilty about killing her, so guilty that I let her live and torpedoed my Kaidan romance.

Both characters are wonderful. No doubt they'll get a significant role in ME3. I doubt the VS (or anyone else) will be a squad mate, but seeing as how that character is one of the few guarenteed alive at the end of ME2, Bioware can make good use of them.

I hate Virmire. I've played it both ways, and I hate it every time with equal intensity. Usually I have to save Ash, but Kaidan will never be forgotten. (I wrote about it some here)

I think this thread needs some new life, so with that in mind let's make a new topic:

[hypothetical] If Shepard were to become more defensive of Ashley in Mass Effect 3 (akin to that fan fiction Silver wrote a while ago) and became more protective towards her and less likely to let her be put at risk out of fear of losing her again (i.e not letting her take point or not bringing her with him on as many assignments), how do you think she would respond to this? Do you think she would be grateful that he went the extra mile to keep her safe or do you think she would be more than a little annoyed in his apparent lack of faith in her to protect herself?

Personally I think deep down, she would be quite happy to know that someone cares about her enough to not even want to think about her being put at risk but at the same time I think she would hide those feelings with the occasional sarcastic remark and maybe once again get angry and doubtful of her own abilities. This would be quite a conflicted emotional state indeed.

What sayeth the rest of the Ash fans?

i don't think my Shepard would act like that...but if he did..don't think Ash would like it...i think she already felt that Kaidan's death was because of Shep's feelings for her....or she might see it as a form of control(yea..i saw too many movies, read to many novels) and she will not like this. The again she might also like the attention...the feeling that she got someone near her to protect her...it's really hard to say..cause on the surface Ash is a very tough looking woman who appears very independent..and dosen't like beeing kept behind..but on a deeper view..who knows what she thinks

I have wondered when Bioware will start implementing some sort of systems where the party members can complain if you don't take them out enough. Although to be honest I would expect to see that in future Dragon Age installments and maybe not Mass Effect.

So this is really a pretty RP question, since I wouldn't expect such a thing to be able to be reflected much in the game. But basically I agree with you; Ashley would make a public show of discontent because she feels she is being kept from where she belongs (on dem front lines), but on some level she would be able to appreciate the thought in Shepard trying to keep her out of harm's way.

However, I don't think Shepard could win that battle on a long-term basis, especially if Ash were 100% fit and battle-ready. If she were injured then she might acquiesce for a while, but not if she was ready and raring to go.

Honesty, if Shepard did that, i'm sure Ash would use her charms to convince him to let her fight. She might even try and spar with him to prove she is capable, lol. I'm  sure she would be annoyed, while understanding why he feels that way at the same time. She will probably tell him how ''she feels like that everytime he goes out there, and he needs her to watch his ass''

You know how sarcastic Ash is...

But the point would be that she feels just the same when he is out there fighting, (not that he realy need's someone to watch his ass, lol) and get him to lighten up, let her fight, Ash dosent like being held back, that will just motivate her more! Posted Image  And yeah, he died once on her...

I don't think Shepard would ever sideline Ash, per se; but I do think he'd get nervous sometimes and try to protect her and tell her to hold back if he can. As much as Shepard can respect her as a soldier, he still loves her - and she knows it. I think she'd be irritated but get over it. There's no "on / off" switch when it comes to loving someone, and I think that given that Shepard died, there's an exaggerated feeling of panic that both parties have about the other getting seriously injured or killed again. It's something that they have to work through, imo - as least as I write and RP it.

Quoted for awesome!

As for the "on / off" switch when it comes to loving someone, about all the other romances I've seen save Ashley's have a distinct "on / off" switch. Yes for "romance on", or no for "I will no longer have anything interesting to say to you". The Ashley romance just kind of happens. It isn't a contract, it's a relationship.

My personal Shepard would never be so foolish as to try to sideline Ash for long. Posted Image I could see him ordering her to stay aboard after a serious injury however. Same way as I could see her trying to force Shepard to stay on the Normandy if he was badly injured.

How she would feel about being forced to stay on the ship? Hmm, I think she might be conflicted. I bet she would be initially irritated but would come to see it as the gesture of caring that it is.

Also quoted for awesome :)

I also can't think my Shepard would try to sideline Ash. I can imagine he is sometimes worried at night, when he looks at her sleeping beside him, but he would know that being protective towards her wouldn't work. Even more so, I think it would hurt their relationship. In my mind the great thing about the Shepard/Ash relation is, that they both seem to see each other on par. They both worry for each other, but they will both not interfere in what the other is thinking the right thing to do.
I guess Ash will give up the battlefield as soon as she plans to get children. But as long as she is still independent of such a responsibility she would take it as an insult from Shepard if he was to force her away from the heat of fire.
