Well when he met her she was a Gunnery Chief, so a possible nickname would be Gunny

I don't think my Shepard is the type for nicknames. He'd probably just call her 'Ash' ...

New topic:

We all know Ashley's affectionate nickname for Shepard is 'Skipper' but if the shoe were on the other foot, what do you reckon would be Shepard's nickname for Ash?

"sexy."

On a less playfull note probably something subtle but still meaningful to her.Maybe "Tennyson".

Yeah, I think my Shep would just call her Ash. He's pretty boring though. :)

On a different note: I know the talk around the forums has been the new vid for the SB DLC. After seeing that trailer, I must admit that I would be even more stoked for some Ash DLC. I hope the thread to push it, pays off.

I could see Ash leading a squad of Marines who all call her Gunny, I'd like that. Maybe that's what the 212 on Eden Prime used to call her. Of course, she's an Ops Chief now, and Oppy just isn't quite the same.

Yeah I suppose that makes sense. Plus calling her 'Ash' is still kind of affectionate I suppose.

Also:

Noticed there wasn't one here. Can never have too many Ash pictures.

Hi *waves*  I"m usually on the KAST thread (if you couldn't tell from my profile pic and sig banner).
I'm playing an mShep for the first time.  So I'm seeing new things with Ash.
You know what I REALLY liked as I was playing today?  She talked about how she didn't want anything from Shepard and how she didn't need some white knight to rescue her.  Awesome!
So she's quite like Kaidan this way.  These are the ONLY 2 sqadmates in the series that never ask Shepard for anything.  They are just there to love and support Shepard.  I LOVE that about these two.  The ME2 characters?  Every single one asks something from Shepard.  And none of them really ask Shepard in ME2 how he/she is holding up with all of this.  Even Garrus and Tali who are long term friends!  (At least in the femShep playthroughs).
They both have their own issues in their history, but both have dealt with them on their own and each makes a point that Shepard does not need it to be fixed for them.

Anyways, my respect for Ash as a character is ever increasing and just wanted to express my VS solidarity.
VS DLC!  and squadmate for ME3!

Nice to see you, Jade! I'm glad you're getting to experience the awesomeness that is Ashley!

I may not be an Ashley-fan. But I still want to show some support for the Virmire-survivor characters, and hope they will get some DLC so they can get the ME2 role they deserve like Liara will get soon.

I'm doing new MShep ME1 playthroughs. The first one I did, I was romancing Ashley...but then I didn't play the file for a year and a half, and I wasn't inspired anymore to play it anymore.

But, I started several files yesterday! And one will have a faithful Ashley romance, and I can hopefully reconcile with her in some DLC.

My FemShep also saved Ashley for the first time. Romancing Kaidan again, but ultimately I couldn't leave Ash behind again.

Thank you Lizardviking! Your support is definitely appreciated.

I just want to share a conversation I had with someone on deviantArt, which as you know is even more hostile towards Ash than a lot of these forums.

I *Love* Ash. She has some awesome lines, and her voice actress really commits to said lines.

"Why is it that when someone says 'with all due respect' what they really mean is kiss my ass?"

Kimberly Brooks really did an awesome job. <3

Agreed. Its hard to pull off being tomboyish but not immature. She doesn't play the character in a girlish way, no. She's a grown woman, and a believable marine from a military family. To take a note from Ashley "Don't just be an aging female … become a real woman!” (Maya Angelou quote)

I actually didn't like her until she read the Tennyson lines and that's where the actress nails it. I love poetry but when I recite it out loud it always sounds lame. Heh. Always envied people who could read poetry out loud

Absolutely I've been there.
And I've re-twittered Christina Norman on her ME tweets for VS/Kaidan DLC and good role in ME3.

I think the ME1 LI fans have probably been quiet in the past and I"m trying to respectfully help to make the VS/Kaidan voice heard a little more.  I like characters that are more mature--not out for themselves b.a's that the kindergamers tend to gravitate toward.

Whoot! Virmire Survivor solidarity!  :wizard:
I am hoping that at least Ms. Norman takes the hint that we want BioWare to focus some of that DLC love onto Kaidan and Ashley.
Maybe it will even make people who don't care about Kaidan and Ashley more interested.  I wasn't planning on buying SB DLC when it was originally announced.  Now I have Xbox Silver, MS points, and might stay up early into Tuesday morning to download and play the game--a "back to school," present/end of summer celebration. B) I am also now genuinely interested in Liara's story, and want to play Shepard with a romance to see how the dialogue changes.

I have a new topic in mind. How do you think Ashley would react/interact with Shepard during a return to Virmire?

Right now I'm occupied by the idea of having a possible Ashley/Kaidan-related DLC that would revolve around returning to Virmire on account of something sinister and probably Reaper-related. If such a thing were to happen in some future DLC or a mission in ME3 (you never know) I think Ashley would be super-guarded and would try to deflect any of Shepard's questions about how she feels coming back to Virmire.

I think it would be very somber that's for sure. Like there wouldn't be any laughs shared as much as silent memories. Admittedly I also find it unlikely that they would go to the exact same spot as before so with that in mind the painful memories of the past wouldn't hurt them too much.

I think Ashley might discuss the issue, like she did after I left Kaidan on Virmire.
She tried cheering Mr. Bhatia about his dead wife; Ashley mentioned that his wife missed his cooking, and listened to recordings of him every night. She might telling a FemShep that Kaidan thought she was cute, or that Kaidan really looked up to MShep as a role model. Other than that, I think she'd be pretty silent.

But I think she's also strong.  She saw her unit wiped out, Kaidan die, and survived Shepard's death.  She also dealt with her dad's death too.

EDIT:  finished my 3rd playthrough (another FemShep), and I'm happy I had Ash be with me all the way to Sovereign's destruction--she has a lot of stamina, and when Garrus was unconscious and I was hiding behind crates because I ran out of medi-gel, she kept shooting at Saren, and didn't go unconscious once during the final fight.

I liked it.

I especially thought it was funny how Wrex mentioned Shepard's relationship with Ashley, that was a clever touch.

If your Shepard could have replied to Ash's email, what would he have written?  If you didn't romance Ash and thus didn't get an email, what should Ash's friend-mail have said?  Bonus challenge: brevity is the soul of wit, keep the email under 200 words!

Ash,

lol it's cool.

Shep.

Hehe no.  It would be more like

Ash,

I'm sorry about Horizon too.

I expected this email to be longer.  I feel like there's so much to say to you.  But the most I can say is that I hope I see you soon.  And then...we can talk.

I miss you.

This is from my canon female and male Shepard:

Two years.  For me it was yesterday.  It's hard to wrap my head around what's happened so far much less have you try to do the same on the spot.  When I had two seconds to think about anything, contacting you was the first thing I wanted to do.  Unfortunately I wasn't able to reach you.  I went to see Anderson and Udina on the Citadel and I couldn't get any answers on where you were or how to contact you (my Shepard definitely asked questions).  The Council didn't want to hear about anything I had to say and...

And it's too much to just type it up in an email.  If I continue I'll effectively be saying goodbye.  You deserve better than that.  When I get back you'll know everything I know.

I don't keep my people at arm's length.
