Is it just me, or does Ash have a lighter skin tone in ME2 than she had in ME1?

No, I agree. I think she looks really different in ME2. Her face looks far more angular and sallow and her skin is definitely lighter, imo.

Yeah I hope in dlc or ME3 they have her with her old skin complexion, I dont know why they did that though. I agree with showing her age slightly and grow more mature, but nobody changes skin complexion (except MJ) And nobody changes that much in two years. In ME1 Ash was mixed race, in ME2 you can only slightly tell that she is, I have heard some people actually think she is white!

I think in ME2, she also has Michael Jackson's nose.

I think it's ME2 in general. I noticed the shade change with my mixed-ethnic MShepard, as well as Ashley and Kaidan.  They all had darker skin in ME1.

Sadly, Kaidan has never made it through a ME playthrough, and I love Sheploo too much to do custom Sheps, so I had no other point of reference. That's interesting that they all have lighter skin, though. Maybe it's something they'll pay more attention to for ME3. I really liked Ash's (and Kaidan's too, for that matter) racial ambiguity in ME1.

I also reckon it's probably the lighting making her skin look a different color. Plus there were a lot of times in Mass Effect where I spotted weird skin color inconsistencies, like sometimes they were tanned and other times pale. I think that's probably mostly a technical issue however.

Still yeah, she does seem to have gone under a few skin pigment changes in Mass Effect 2 although again it could just be because this time she's in actual sunlight instead of under artificial lighting in a space station.

But still, as long as it's Ash, any skin color will look good.

She just needs out of that ugly Phoenix armor. Hey, is Ash, Hackett's secret/covert operative? Anyone else get that?

Somebody posted on the KAAS some of the concept looks of Ashley and Kaidan.  I think having her with a shorter, cropped hair cut would really suit her.

I'm conflicted about the Phoenix armor; One the one hand, it's Ash's token armor. On the other hand, she's had it for two games, and really deserves a chance. I think it would also reflect her development as a character.

@ vigna: I hope so. Would love nothing more than that.

I think the big point of debate with that was whether or not the Broker was referring to one of his own operatives. As much as I love wishful thinking, it's a good possibility that's the case.

But you never know....

I think it's the lighting. I don't really see a difference to be honest. Better graphics. And I think her nose is the same. I don't think she looks older at all actually. And she's always had those awesome cheekbones. Could have something to do with the fact that she was making the "thought you were dead" face as to why you thought she looked sallow and old, Silver. :)

Kaidan has definitely aged more than Ashley has. Not a whole lot, but I think Ashley still looks much like her same-old self because she was able to cope.

I'm curious as to what you mean by that. Are you saying Kaidan took sheps death harder than Ash?

If you think I mean Ash didn't care as much for Shepard as Kaidan did: vehement NO.

There was a larger discussion in the KAAS, but it was related to how Ash and Kaid are foils of each other.

Ashley stated that she read a lot of poetry after her dad passed away, she was close with her sisters, and that she believed in God.  After Virmire, when I left Kaidan there, I asked how she was feeling, and (to paraphrase), she said Kaidan was with God now, so he's in a better place.  Having those supports might make her better able to cope with the situation.

Kaidan, meanwhile, doesn't mention his family much.  He's still on speaking terms with them, but considering BaAT attempted to spread rumors about how dangerous the biotic children were so they could have less interference from parents, he might be more distanced from his family.  We don't know his beliefs.  In short, he probably has less support in talking about Shepard than Ashley does.

It also seemed from Ash's email that Horizon threw her a loop, and that Shepard's death was still horrendously painful and brought her sadness, but she was able to keep strong through praying and reading poetry.  Kaidan, meanwhile, sounded as if he's been mired in depression the past two years, and Horizon threw a wrench into his healing process.

Of course, this mostly applies to the romances (considering friendships don't get emails), but, there's my opinion.

Hope it clarifies what I was trying to say.

They both dealt with Shepard's death differently, even though both were equally hurt.  It's not meant to be a character insult to Ash, just an observation.

Looking back on the email, it also sounds like she tried to actively not think about Shepard. But out of the 3 original LIs, I think Ash handled her grief the best.

Ashley: read poetry, pray, and try to move on

Liara: focused on revenge for the past two years

Kaidan: depressed and reminiscing for the past two years

At its simplest and shortest. It's not meant to diss the LIs in anyway, it's just IMHO.

Well, don't forget that Kaidan started seeing someone. I think that counts as moving on.

I think overall the idea is that both Ashley and Kaiden at least made an attempt to move on. Ashley focused on her military career and Kaiden tried to start dating again. But that either way, both were hurt greatly by losing Shepard and both had only just managed to get their lives together before the Horizon encounter.

So I think in the end they had only just started to 'move on' when you meet them again in Mass Effect 2, or at least that's how I saw it.

Slightly Encouraging Almost Positive News: Ashley was not entirely forgotten in the recent DLC. In fact, during the token love scene, Shepard can say that he is tired of working with Cerberus and tired of his closest friends not believing him, to which Liara replies (and get this) that she heard about what Ashley said on Horizon.
That's right, folks, Ashley was mentioned in passing in Liar of the Shadow Broker! Posted Image

So it turns out Bioware do think we're still worthy of being thrown bones every here and there.

Indeedy!

I know there's some bitterness about it being mentioned in a friend context, but I honestly loved that. I think that my Shepard - even when he's told to cut the BS - still has walls... and Liara kind of saw through that and acknowledged that he was upset by Ashley's words.

I did really enjoy LotSB, and I still hope that we'll get an installment dealing with the VS - in fact, I sincerely hope and think that's it coming "on the Horizon."

I'm just hoping that BioWare makes it as awesome as LotSB.  That would be phenomenal.  And I also enjoyed how Liara mentioned Ash and Kaidan--I felt like they weren't forgotten in that aspect.
