Question regarding the VS: Has anyone ever romanced someone in ME1, and then chosen the other person to live on Virmire instead- then gone on to ME2 with that saved character and spoken with the VS on Horizon? I was wondering if it would be mentioned by Shepard as a plea to the survivor that he/she gave up their LI to save the person and still wasn't trusted.

That would be an interesting diversion.

I don't really blame the VS for acting how he/she did. I just think both Ash/Kaidan and Shepard could've handled the encounter better. I would think Shepard had earned some slack from the VS, especially if they were romanced. I also think Shepard did a horrible job of explaining himself and his actions, he just stood there.

I agree with you, Pyro.

Ash has always been quick to temper, and one thing I really took away from her email was a sense and recognition that she let her emotions get carried away.  (Of course, the "you're being too emotional, Ash" response probably wasn't the best thing to pick on Horizon, knowing her ... or any woman ... and I can speak for that, lol.)

In the context of LotSB, what I was trying to communicate is that I'm glad it was left at a mention of Horizon and not an analysis of how things went down - or even a "I still love Ash even though she yelled at me."  Both parties were very much at fault.  As a gamer, I was wishing for a Paragon interrupt like crazy when she started confessing that she loved Shepard and all you could say was, "It's been too long ... Yes, I'm with Cerberus ... You're not doing anything to stop the Reapers but they are."  It didn't feel right, and I certainly can't blame Ash for getting upset and saying things she didn't mean, given the circumstances.  As Pyro said, he states the situation - not the motivations, and not the reasons.  I find it hard to think Ash would come around quickly just based on the magic of it being Shepard who's talking, even though other many characters do, and I frankly respect her more for that.

Sometimes relationships are messy - and Ash and Shepard are both strong-willed people.  I want them to have a chance to sit down and sort things out before Shepard analyzes things out with Liara and comes to conclusions.  As someone said earlier, they're not exactly "on" and they're not exactly "off" - haven't we all been there at some point?  I think that BioWare is handling things well by waiting to have Ash and Shep reconcile before having other characters get involved or state opinions about their relationship... Now to hope that BioWare actually gives us a chance for that ...

I can honestly say that "it's none of Liara's" business would never have occurred to me as a reason for why the Virmire Survivor is so tangentially referenced in the Lair DLC (and why the romance isn't touched on at all). I suppose this new spin could be put to Kasumi's disadvantageously silent tongue on the matter as well; she just didn't really know what to say that would have been appropriate given the situation.

Shepard and Ashley have a much stickier problem separating them than do Shepard and Liara. If I were a stranger to both of them, I'd keep my mouth shut on the subject too.

P.S. Shepard still needs an email service that provides a "Reply" feature.

Hey everyone, I haven't posted in a while because I've been trying to take care of my DAO stuff, as well as my actual life stuff, and I've unfortunately had nothing to contribute to this thread. But a few posts have raised my curiosity and forced me out of lurking...

So let me get this straight: LotSB references Ash or Kaidan romance??

despite reviews, I haven't had enough interest to invest my money in the DLC yet, but if Ash is referenced anywhere, I may push it up my purchase timetable :D

The romance is not mentioned, but Ash/Kaidan's presence existence is actually referenced by Liara. Granted, it's in a somewhat belittling context (she refers to them as short-sighted), but it was more than I had come to expect. It was encouraging, even, not to be entirely ignored in this DLC, given that every other character was at least thrown a bone.

hmm... just a slight dismissal reference from Liara... kinda insulting to one of my favorite women in the Mass Effect franchise...

Well I was excited for a moment, but I think I'm still going to hold off on this, and wait for an Ash/Kaidan dlc. I'd much prefer a reunion with Ash right now than Liara.

When does Liara mention mention ash/kaidan?

My hard drive died, so I had to get a new one and lose all my Shepards. Naturally that means I have to start over from ME1 and then import to ME2. I made a femshep this go around with a plan for an eye on Garrus in ME2, but I might romance nobody in ME1 so I don't have to kill Ash or kill Shep's boyfriend. Either way the guilt is overwhelming. And that says a lot about Ash's character, and how awesome she is, because I'm a heterosexual chick.

If you pick the "I'm frustrated" dialogue when she asks you how you feel when she visits your cabin.

I thought it was rather insulting, too, but...apparently some weren't even expecting that much. Maybe I'm too sentimental about the whole thing. I still would have liked a little more...maybe not even words...like, Liara looks at the picture of Ash, then quicks looks at Shepard as he shrugs, and she'd know to leave that subject alone. Or something.

...But yeah, I guess I can see why that wasn't put in. The relationship is up in the air, even if you're faithful. Heck, I romanced Ashley with a Renegade Shepard who kept the Collector base and stuck with Cerberus; sometimes I wonder if he'll be able to win her back at all.

I'd love a Virmire Survivor DLC, too...would be nice to...clear things up and shed more light on their perspective, but I have no idea what Bioware is intending.

So I started another play-through of ME1, and was thinking or wondering; what kind of Shepard do you think Ash would really go for? I know the game allows you to play Renegade, Paragon, or a combo of both, but do you all think Ash is a black or white person? Does she tend to go for a "bad boy" type or the "white-hat" type, or does it not matter to her.

What do you all think.

It's very hard to say, you're able to "paragonize" her and her opinions / thoughts change and I think maybe her consideration for Shepard would also change from doing so.

Based on her dialogue about her younger sister, Ashley strikes me as the type of girl who would go for the "Good Boy." Someone who's willing to put up with her tougher personality, but someone good boy just the same.

Sage, look that the OP (The one with the Stream access)  let me know if that is good for you? If it is I can see what I can do about getting the video from my older system. I think the Size was about 2+GB in size.

Vutaat has the Horizon clip embedded on the OP.  Not sure if that helps...  I rememeber that most clips of the scene on YouTube are terrible or have captions all over them.

e: Ninja'd by the man himself.  LOL.

Sage i might need a day or two to get this off my old system and upload it to depositfiles. I will do my best to compress the file, but I know at least 2GB insize to might take a little while. It will be the RAW Video in AVI format. would you still like the file Sage?

I think if there is one thing that defines Ashley, it's her personality, which itself allows her to get along with just about anyone, if that person knows what kind of woman Ashley is.

She just needs someone to "understand"; nothing more, nothing less.

She's like the person in a group of friends who is the friendly friends-with-everyone and the mediator who can also inadvertently rub somebody the wrong way  with her strong opinions.

Thought the thread needed another of these. Also another topic that I just finished cooking that I'm now serving up:

Do you think the anniversary of Shepard's death would be a profoundly emotional day for Ashley to reflect upon, and if so how do you think she would cope on the first anniversary of the day Shepard died with Shepard now alive and well beside her?

Personally, I think that if she felt 'obligated' to remember Armistice Day because of her family history and the general shame there in, I reckon that the anniversary of Shepard's death would be something she would remember or simply be unable to forget. But that she might have forced herself to do so.

However, I do still think it would be quite a strange emotional moment for her if the day came and Shepard was standing alongside her. That last year she was mourning the man she loved and now here he is standing beside her.

Personally I think that she would either:

A. Be much more vulnerable due to the emotional power of this situation.

B. Spend the day being much more defensive and maybe even solitary in order to hide any signs of emotional weakness.

I can't decide which of those two is more likely. But still, that's just my opinion on this matter... what's yours?
