I don't think his death helped the familly because she became chief when he was alive, however I do beleive he died in battle and his sacerfice might have made it more easy for Ash to get a posting at Edan Prime.SilverRose208 wrote...
I agree - I think it happened on the battlefield. I also tend to think that he made himself a martyr in some respects in the hopes of clearing the family name, much like Ash tried to do on Virmire. Though it never comes up, nor is there any cannon to support it, I think it makes her insistence on being left behind and Shepard's reaction to it a bit easier to understand. At first blush, at least for me, Ash wanting to stay on Virmire would make sense, given that Kaidan is the ranking officer, and Shepard's leap from that to martrydom always seemed a little off to me - I guess that's why I filled in the blanks with having her dad done something similar.Funkcase wrote...
How do you guys think Ashleys father died? It never realy comes up in conversation.
I believe he died doing what he loved, being a soldier, making the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield, against a Batarian raid or something, would be cool if we find out he died on Elysium or Mindoir, would make for great role playing if Shep is a War hero or Colonist.

I recall Ashley saying he retired, so I don't think it was on duty.
But considering that humans are living longer than ever in the future, it seems odd that he would die of old age. In Retribution, TIM makes reference that cancer and kidney disease were pretty much cured. So...maybe he was killed in an accident? Maybe a car crash?
No, that was her grandad, he was brought back to Earth in irons nd stuck behind desk, then he retired, she dosent realy talk about her fathers end years.

Ow yeah, lol. Hm, the last couple of years of her father is a mystery. I cant see it being old age though.

Friendly bump and I wanted to make you all aware of a new LI poll.
I went to your poll and you tricked me dammit!
Interesting poll, if you read my comment I tried to be as honest as I could. I want you all to know that the Ash romance is still my favorite, and hopefully the Survivor will be getting the same great attention that Liara got with their own DLC.
Here is to "bun-lovin'".

Going back to Ashley's dad, and his love of Ulyssees: She quotes the poem several times, and also in the email after Horizon. She mentions that it was his favourite poem. But do you think was it her favourite poem as well, maybe she quotes it and references it often because she knows it off by heart?

Well, making another playthrough. It's a FemShep, but I'm saving Ash on Virmire again, so the score should be equal soon enough between her and Kaidan.

Her and her father shared many interests, I believe it is indeed her favourite, her dad read it to her alot as a kid, it was his favoutite poem, and he recorded her reciting it every time he went on deployment. She loved that poem becuase it made her feel closer to her father, and maybe it comforted her after he was gone, made her feel like he was watching her, imo.

If after Shepard’s death Ashley was returned to the same kinds of duty she had before ME1 because of her family name. Garrison duty on some quiet planet somewhere. Then sent to Horizon on the special assignment.
Do you think Horizon would have gone the same way?
Well yes,(If this is what I think you're gettng at) I dont think Ash was realy that mad becuase Shepard was with Cerberus on Horizon, (she already knew, she had reports)
I think it was becuase he didn't come to her, he didn't try to find her, I think she hides how she realy feels behind her hate of Cerberus ''Why didn't you try to contact me? You turned you're back on all of us, you betrayed the council, you betrayed ME'' She opens up, asking Shepard why he didn't contct her, and then it changes to how he betrayed the council by working for Cerberus.

The more I think about this, the more I think you are right. If I remember correctly, doesn't Ash despise the council, almost saying as much when Shepard goes to present Tali's evidence about Saren, and then later when they strip Shepard of his ship? Isn't she the companion that suggests you hold back the Alliance fleet and not try and help the Ascension? If that is the case, then why would she give a ratzarse if Shepard betrayed the council. Hey, turning your back on the Alliance is one thing (with Ash), but I don't see her getting too upset if you upset the council.
I am still 90% convinced there will be DLC that makes you resolve the situation between the Alliance and Cerberus. Remember the SB's entry for Hackett at his base? Call me overly optimistic, but I think it all points to some really cool DLC, involving the VS.

I believe it was just a matter of chance, I have had her suggest to save the council and Wrex say to let them die before, I believe it was just a way for BW to get both choices out there no matter the characters selected.

If Ash is paragon she (and it depends who is in you're squad) she will tell you to save them, but if you dont paragon her she tells you to leave them, even if Wrex is in you're squad.

To me at least Ashley's character arc that makes her change her mind on the matter of trusting alien foreign powers came from Shepard explaining to her or at least making her have to accept that she has more reason to blame the Alliance then she does the Council for what happened to her grandfather. So rather than learning to not 'hate' the Council instead she finally accepts that deep down she never really did and had only convinced herself that she had because she didn't want to seem like she hated the Alliance since she was raised to serve its interests.
It's kind of lame that in Mass Effect 2 the cameo was so short that this entire redemptive awakening she had was subsequently completely dismissed or not even covered, because I would have liked to see what the new 'reformed Ashley' who no longer holds any grudge against the Council and alien foreign powers in general but a lot of reasons to resent her own army might now do with her life.
Sadly, such ideas seem dismissed.
Also while I'm here:

Here's hoping Shepard gets to wake up to this sometime in the future.

Maybe we will see this addressed in a DLC with the Greybox.

I can imagine her angrily throwing it in the trash immediately after Horizon, then regretting it later after writing her email.

Hey Ashii6 welcome back.
I bet Ash has a Shepard picture on her desk, but the real question is "Is the picture still up or is it face down on the table?"
