One of the little touches in LOTSB i liked was Liara's apartment, with all the Prothein artifacts and the painting... It shows she (or Bioware) didn't forget her background as a Prothein Archaeologist in ME1. Shepard even mentions it, which i loved.

It's nice that they didn't forget completely, and I give them credit for explaining Liara's whole...process. But I still find it odd, even a little amusing, that she just switched jobs. Only in fiction can people make drastic jumps to careers they're not necessarily qualified for :P

A while ago there was a thread discussing if she cared more for Shepard than the others. I tried to argue otherwise, I think this thread has established that Ash handled it in a very stable, normal way. Liara cared in...her own special way, but...if a loved one dies of an unknown disease, does not seeking the cure mean you don't care?

I, for one, find it personally offensive when someone tries to say on the basis of her being the one to go after Shepard's body, Liara cares more about him than anyone else.

I am curious what exactly they expected Ashley to do, since Liara didn't bother or didn't dare to tell anyone else from the SR1 what she was doing. Was Ashley supposed to severe all ties to everything in her life to chase down a rumor she doesn't know about?

Ashley did what the skipper would have wanted; she stuck with it and tried to do everything she could from her position (firing at the Reapers with her pea-shooter, speaking figuratively--she isn't a Spectre, after all). Liara did what Liara wanted; get Shepard back no matter the cost.

Liara has no responsibilities to the Council, the Alliance, or anyone. If she'd wanted to, she could've become a tea master (and preserved some of her character integrity) instead of a lawyer information broker. Ash can't, she's an Alliance soldier, she has responsibilities.

What people don't often get is that as far as anyone else other than Liara knew, Shepard was deader than a doornail, and lost without the possibility of retrieval. Honoring Shepard by going 180 degrees out of character and donning a superman cape to get back his body wasn't possible for anyone else. They all had to honor Shepard in the ways that they could.

I agree Zeuss, I'm sick of people calling Ashley out as 'not really caring about Shepard' because she played no role in his resurrection.
I mean I actually remember seeing people accuse Ashley as being selfish for not being involved and indeed, disloyal for not being involved (Not exact words but it was essentially what they are saying)

So basically they are making a case against the character for not being involved with a plan that she had not been made a part of, and of whom had no idea it was even going on and therefore was never given the chance to assist in any plan nor would have even been aware of it.

Man, the Simple Country Hyper Chicken could get that kind of charge pardoned.

Also while I'm here:

The way I see it, the kind of Shepard that would fall for Liara is completely different from the kind of Shepard that would fall for Ashley. Which is a good thing, because they're such disparate characters. That being said, it's only natural that each would care for Shepard in her own way. Ashley's grieving process seemed to involve making her peace with Shepard's death and moving on, while Liara's was more of "A Rose for Emily" type mourning. (I'm sorry, that was unkind, but her obsession with retrieving Shepard's body was a little creepy). Maybe Liara felt the ceremony of a human burial service would be important to ensuring Shepard's eternal peace? I mean, the kind of Shepard that would romance Liara would have to be a little New-Agey in the first place.

Well, in fairness there was some metagaming going on since Bioware had to account for all possible iterations of ME1 when they decided to dive into bed with develop comic books.

I always think of Ashley like a sister to my FemShep, she's very nice when you talk with her, really I hate what Bioware did, make us choose one of them to let him/her die....It don't seem fair, but well...we can't do anything to change that.

And yeah, when I play with my maleShep I always chose her on Virmire (with pain in my heart I leave Kaidan behind)

Well the point of my comment is that I wanted to show my entire support to your group :)

Maybe she didn't tell anyone because Ash/Kaidan, Tali, Garrus, Anderson would all tear her a new one if she said that she gave Shepard's body to Cerberus?

how about before she gave the body to Cerberus ? i can understand Ash/Kaidan...as lovers they would not like the idea in general...but the others would have helped recovered the body...then decide what to do with it

@kendall: The point I was making was that just because Ash didn't risk life and limb to get Shepard's body back doesn't mean that Liara "cares more" about Shepard than Ash does, it just means that Liara had information that Ash didn't and she kept it to herself. There are threads in which to debate whether or not this makes Liara "creepy", but this one is for talking about Ash. I didn't mean for this to get so far off track.

On a different note, here is an awesome wallpaper featuring Ash, which in my book is *always* a good thing.:)

Plus, well...I just like spunky girls. Girls that let you know what they're thinking (within reason). I like most of the other females in this series, but none of them are remotely like her. I'm guessing the appeal for...certain other characters is that they're...docile? More willing to please? Ashley may be an admirer (especially if Shepard's a War Hero, or so I've heard), but she's not president of the Shepard fanclub. I don't know how guys generally feel about this sort of thing, but I like that she presents more of a challenge.

Just wanted to respond to this last bit.  I'm generally not attracted to women who seem like they feel the need to down a guy at any and every opportunity.  To me it relates a huge issue that I'd rather not deal with.  It'd be the same as dealing with a guy who has a problem with women in authority positions.  Little by little misogyny (male) or misandry (female) would bleed through.

I've met women who have the kind of, what I like to call, "issues of being in a man's world".  That sounds condescending, but where I'm coming from isn't (at least I don't think it is).  The only similar thing I can think of is skin color.  I'm first generation African.  Now if I decided to focus on my skin color being the basis for me not being able to get ahead I would never succeed.  I instead look to see what I lack in any particular areas and I'm currently working on those areas to get ahead.  If I'm going to give any credence to my skin color not allowing me to move forward I'll deal with it when there's a substantial outward appearance of such a state.  Otherwise I don't deal with phantom racism.  That is not to say it doesn't happen, but so long as I'm not seeing an obvious appearance of it I don't let it bother me.  What this has to do with Ashley is that I don't get the sense that she feels she has to prove herself as a woman.  She is just a human who happens to be female (if that makes sense).

So I gave Ashely a chance and experienced her side.  The only other game character I felt any affinity for other than Leliana was Juhani.  With the addition of Ashley, that's three total.  I want to write well enough that I can foster such a connection between ficitonal characters and actual human beings.  Much respect to Le'toille for the job he did on Ashley.  I heard that he's not with Bioware anymore.  I want him to come back to do what he can for Ashley so there's no chance to ruin her.

Sorry for the large amount of text.

Hey guys apparently I left the "Ashley Williams for ME3 squadmember" group, which I do not remember doing :pinched:. I have no reason to leave the group she's one of my favorite characters/romances I must have acciently left it the other day when I was leaving some excess groups. I was trying to do it quickly and apparently I left the Ashley group :(. It says I'm still awaiting to be accepted, does anyone here know if/when/who will do that? I wanna show my Ash support ^_^.
