Just found the link to Ashley's 'TV Tropes' page and it's pretty cool. Especially noting that it appears TV tropes acknowledges that the hate she gets is overblown and unwarranted. I especially liked that the link to the word 'overblown' leads to 'understatement' (i.e that to say the accusations about her being 'racist' are overblown is an understatement) and the bit where it says that some view her as 'worse than Cerberus' leads to 'hate-dumb'
Ahh good times. That said not sure how I feel about some of the entries about her religion (though apart from the bit about Jesus it's mostly respectful about her beliefs) but otherwise it really greatly strengthens the layers of her character, I think anyway, if there are this many different tropes and idioms that can be linked to her existing within her character.
So I'm sharing this with the board so they can see how greatly she comes together with all these tropes and such, so we can appreciate the layers that make up her character, and mock the true idiocy of those that hate her.
Speaking of, here is Ashley's link in the Ron the Death Eater page on TV Tropes and Idioms:
"Ashley also gets it from another angle - her (somewhat justified) dislike of other alien races, and Turians especially, comes from the fact that thanks to the Turians, her family name is now essentially mud in the Alliance military. She actually expresses hope for improved relations with the Quarians thanks to Tali's assistance in one case. However, the Hatedom flanderizes her caution into outright, blind, unreasoning hatred."
Yeah, that's like the most accurate description of the unfairness of Ashley's bad reputation I've ever heard. Thank you TV Tropes and idioms.
As for having Ashley/Kaiden merge classes, I don't like the idea. I remember seeing footage of Kaiden wielding an assault rifle on Horizon and it looked off. I mean I understand the idea of a balance so that gameplay doesn't have to change that much but I think their different combat styles are another example of how they are different characters.
I feel it should feel different according to who has what weapon or combat style. If it's Ashley let's have it be a firefight type arrangement with a lot of problems that can only, or need only, be solved by excessive plasma fire.
If it's Kaiden then it needs to be something with physics and possible decryption and puzzles that need the work of a biotic. That way the scenario will actually 'fit' the two different characters. Of course that would be quite difficult to do but it could still be cool.
