Voted as well, a Vote for Ash is a vote for tomorrow!!
Also I made a rather large and detailed writing on my viewpoint* of this whole matter on the thread, which I am rather proud of.

EDIT: Speaking of, the format just went horrible because I dared to fix up one word that I got wrong so now there are no paragraphs or spaces, so it's probably unreadable

So with that in mind, here it is for this thread:
"I think Liara has well and truly had her turn in the spotlight by this point, with that in mind I'm more interested to see Ashley come back. However, I want Ashley's character development to actually be true and fair and fitting to the character.
I mean think about it for a minute, in Mass Effect 1 Ashley had all kinds of prejudices and grudges and anger issues relating largely due to a negative thing from her past (i.e her grandfather surrendering Shanxi) constantly coming up in her own life. It results in her getting assigned lousy missions, being disregarded and overlooked and generally not respected fondly.
And yet, she sticks to it anyway and retains a desire to be better than the best, pushing herself quite far to make up for past mistakes and using the Council and the Turians as the blame figure for what happened rather than the Alliance as she was raised to be a patriot.
Then of course, the game lets you change her mind. Make her not so much realize as accept the fact that she has to blame the Alliance for her grandfather being blacklisted and that it wasn't the Turians fault. This, combined with subtle encouragement to try to be more open minded about other races in the galaxy results in her being trusting of alien governments to a far greater extent, and she seems more content with herself. Now finally feeling in her own words 'good enough'.
That now that she's admitted that she's pissed at the government, she no longer seems to feel like she has to prove anything and while it probably wouldn't stop her from being loyal to the Alliance, it at least means that she no longer shifts the blame and in turn might no longer be as haunted by the past.
Then, come Mass Effect 2 the writers had pissed it all away. Not only does she have to clunkily revert back to being 100% Alliance (despite in the last game admitting to being 'pissed at the government') but they even go the extra mile to have her remark:
"I'm no fan of aliens."
Seriously, not only does this completely negate her redemptive awakening at the end of the first game (via player contribution) but it also goes against her characterization in the first place. See, despite what the whiny angry youtube commenters of the world proclaim, Ashley never was an alien hater.
At most she was just cautious or suspicious of their motives and was cynical of the idea that they could always be relied on as allies. She also says and does many thing to contradict the idea that she's racist.
So in some respects her saying she's no fan of aliens can be interpreted by those who understand her character as merely being cynical of alien governments still, but to all the angry youtube commenters, it validates their insanely wrong opinions. To the point where they can justify yelling that she's racist, while in the Horizon scene she is actually telling Shepard off for working for Cerberus.
So in some respects, her character development seems to be heading in the direction of how the idiots of the web perceive her. Rather than the actual characterization that she actually had, she's getting turned into what the people who cry accusations of:
"Raseist religos bich!1!1!!Q!!!!!!!!!111"
See her as. And let me tell you something... f*ck that. Seriously, those people should not be able to have any influence whatsoever on the writing process and yet so far not only have they made Ashley kind of negate her redemptive awakening, they seem quite happy to make her into the hateful stereotype of what people see her as.
Seriously, f*ck that!
I myself, want to see what became of the Ashley Williams who decided to be more trusting of aliens, and who placed the blame for the past accordingly. The one who, without the problems of the past weighing her down so much, was able to not feel obligated to continue to serve the Alliance to a full loyalist degree. Indeed if she had accepted, one hundred percent that the Alliance was to blame for what happened to her family, maybe she'd be more likely to talk back to them. And to have more confidence in herself, without letting her anger about the past continue to annoy her or cause her to be alienated from others.
This version of Ashley could be completely free spirited, and able to go the distance and achieve greatness, without any of her old prejudices holding her back. Comfortably working with members of all races and even befriending them. She could go almost anywhere and do almost anything, rise in the ranks, restore honor to her family and reach the status of hero. Her grudges gone (or at least, no longer misplaced), and no longer any need to be angry or have to fight for what she wants.
Remember, all forms of self improvement begin with someone being able to be happy with themselves. And after Shepard forced her to come to terms with something she had been in denial of, she achieved that. I want to see the strong, heroic and radically more open minded Ashley Williams show up in Mass Effect 3. I want to see her kicking ass and being bold and determined while also remaining compassionate and noble, I want to see her working effectively with other races as equals. Most of all I want this characterization of Ashley to make a great big wall up with a middle finger raised to all the people who just think she's a:
"raseist religos bich!'
To show her as what she always was, a strong passionate woman. One who was flawed in the first game but now in the last part of the trilogy, has worked past the flaws and has now become a better person because of it.
And that the annoying angry whiny racist alien hating god nut is really just a vivid dream that many people share.
Personally, I think that sounds better than her just revealing that no, she really totally was like, 'raseist', this whole time lolz.
So yes, my pick is Ashley. And I want to see her done right, dammit."
