Just
found the link to Ashley's 'TV Tropes' page and it's pretty cool.
Especially noting that it appears TV tropes acknowledges that the hate
she gets is overblown and unwarranted. I especially liked that the link
to the word 'overblown' leads to 'understatement' (i.e that to say the
accusations about her being 'racist' are overblown is an understatement)
and the bit where it says that some view her as 'worse than Cerberus'
leads to 'hate-dumb'
Ahh good times. That said not sure how I
feel about some of the entries about her religion (though apart from the
bit about Jesus it's mostly respectful about her beliefs) but otherwise
it really greatly strengthens the layers of her character, I think
anyway, if there are this many different tropes and idioms that can be
linked to her existing within her character.
Yeah, I saw that. Funny how that website seemes like...it could be dangerous. As in, I've looked there for some other games or shows I've enjoyed and there would be entries that had people playing favorites, implementing their own opinions, but that one was well said.
Side note--I liked that "Bodyguard Crush" was listed as a trope applying to her. I'm fond of that trope for some reason.
"Don't worry, Commander, I'll protect you." Heheh

I dont really know why Ashley was mad about Cerberus, I made it clear I
was just working with them for a little (until Collector threat is gone)
and I wasnt even working with them, they just funded me. I screwed over
TIM every time I could.
.
We have to look at it
from her perspective. Ash knows nothing about the Lazarus project, as
far as she knows Shepard has been working for Cerberus for the past two
years, in the time she spent grieving Shepards death. She is confused,
she dosnet know how he could be alive, how he could have surivived the
destruction of fhe Normandy. And then she gets reports about Shepard
working for Cerberus, a organisation of extremists, a group she (side by
side with Shepard) fought against .
I think instead of being
mad at the VS more people should consider the VS point of veiw. Shepard
was there lover/good friend, and they dont know the full story. It's
harder when Shepard can try and act like nothing happend ''It's been to
long, Ash''' I actually felt like Shepard was gonna get a punch, and he
would have deserved it.
QFT.
Good analysis.
Not a lot of people seem interested in looking at things from the perspective of the VS. Never mind the fact that these two years for them have only been...maybe three weeks tops for Shepard, so they're already on two different wavelengths. We know what Shepard knows, we have virtually no idea what kind of info the VS might have, what the Illusive Man may have fed them. Lazarus is only one cell of Cerberus, other parts of the organization could have been doing morally questionable things within that time.
I was never that upset about Horizon, really. I had just assumed Ash/Kai needed to be alive for ME3. If anything, I just didn't like the dialogue choices for my Shepard. Would have been nice to be a little more...reassuring.

I look forward to your future work. At least someone is doing Ashley much needed justice.
There are plenty of people who do Ash justice, we have great fan fic writers such as Badpie and Silver (there are plenty more in the group) there are a few artists on here who have made great work of Ash, TZ being one of them (there is plenty in the group too) And ofcourse the fans who have been supporting back since they played ME1. Even the haters do Ash justice, becuase they dont hate on her for being a bland character (lets face it, she is not) they hate on her for her views if they dont agree with them and feel so strongly about them. I would say all this does Ash justice, even if the haters cant appreciate a character becuase she is too realistic for them.
I have noticed with Ash, you can make her into Shepards equal, she can have so much in commen with Shep, and thats another great thing I love about Ash. Her background is spacer (military family) sole survivor (Eden prime) You can choose to make Shepard believe in god, you can choose Shepard to like poetry, and you can choose Shepard to not trust Aliens, although I go paragon as I like Ash trusting them. I wonder if Bioware did this on purpose? Regardless if they did or not, im glad the choice is there, speaking to Ash not only develops Ash as a character, it realy develops Shepard too, as speaking to Ash is one of the few times when Shepard realy voices his opinion on stuff.
Honestly, I get a little bored or...put off when a character is unanimously beloved. At the least, I don't feel the need to show any sort of support. It may seem odd, but I guess a lack of popularity or a mixed range of feelings towards a character motivates me better. Not necessarily the right approach but...I don't know, maybe I like standing up for the little guy...or maybe I just like a chllange!
(I still can't help but go "Really? Really!?" when a female fan gushes about how much she likes/admires Miranda and/or Tali but rails on Ash, but...yeah, not my problem, really)
And yeah, while certain comments do hurt and...often insult my intelligence, Ashley doesn't have it the worst. At least she piques enough interest to get something out of players, even if it is negative. Compare that to Jacob. All he seems to get is the occassional "priiiize" joke. Half the fans he gets are probably just so ironically. Feel bad, he's not a bad guy...
But anyway, I began to appreciate her dialogue in multiple playthroughs. For some characters, in both games, dialogue was a relatively straight line. The things Shepard could say to her could branch out in a few ways. As mentioned, the conversation involving God and poetry also adds a little something for one's Shepard, too. Now I always make sure to have that conversation with Ash. Even my Renegade believes in something.
As for the picture, I must say, I think Ash looks
really good in green! Artist also did very well with the features of her face; even with the very different outfit, I knew it was her even from a distance.
