After the First Contact War concluded, I'm sure having the name Williams was very undesirable indeed.

i really hope ther eis a way to make the Williams name clear of all past actions(not that they were shameful) and make her a big hero..just like Shepard

People can change their name. I doubt anyone in Ashley's family would, they are way too proud. I know in america durring wwII german immigrants changer their names to more english sounding name. Schmidt to Smith that kind of thing. I wouldn't be suprised if people changed their name from Williams.

Sadly, it seems as if this happens only if Ash dies on Virmire. I think she should become the next human Spectre. That would explain her well-classified file.

she already is a hero.even the colonist in the terminus know she saved the citadel.so no worries

no...not Spectre...i am all for races to get along..but i don't like the COuncil....not in the current form...maybe if it will change

I think Ashley's promotion (not to officer rank, obviously) and work for the "Citadel" shows that the winds are changing, at least somewhat. She's not stuck in a groundside post again, presumably.

Aye, that was probably a big trend in the years immediately following. But given Ashley's family's history of military service, yeah, there ain't no way they'd change their name. It probably wouldn't matter for them, as the Alliance would still know they're descended from the man who surrendered Shanxi.

Winds are changed where? I don't think the alliance cares anymore for her now than they ever did. It's Anderson/Udina who are sending her on special missions.

Because the alliance needed to blame someone for the most humiliating defeat they've ever had. He was handy.

Is talking about how cool a first contact war movie would be, off topic? It would have ash's great grandfather in it.
