I agree that it sucks how much time Liara gets in me2 compared to ashley and Kaidan, it's just making the human LI's look terrible in comparison to the "intresting" alien romances. so much for the VS being the "canon" default romance for Shepard.

It's incredible though isn't it?
I mean, Ashley had been the 'leading lady' of the first game since even the earliest days of development. Back when the game was so drastically different, Ashley was still there as one of the three main established characters, the other being an unknown Turian who would become Garrus and Shepard himself.
It was her in almost all the early promotional trailers, it was her on all the posters, when they showed the first 'gameplay' trailer it was her romance featured prominently (if I remember right, she was the one that leaked the whole 'sex' thing to begin with) and of course... it was HER on the FRONT of the BOX.

She was entirely the poster girl for the first game, from even the earliest stages of marketting and development, Liara by comparison was more recent at least in terms of marketing. Plus Ashley was the first new squad member to join your party in the first place.
At the time and for the most part Ashley was considered the 'go to girl' for the main story and now look, because a whole lot of people misinterpreted the accursed 'bear-dog' analogy, she becomes instantly one of the less popular and added with the fact that she can be killed off means that she's all but completely cut out for the sequel.

The character who was once the leading lady and poster girl for the whole first game, is now barely a footnote in the second and has virtually no chance of being significant in any movie release. Not wishing any offence to Liara fans out there or fans of another LI but seriously.....
:crying:

Wow. Great Post! Now I have to find my ME1 box again, and I remember her voice being so different from the originally 06 ME1 demo, its crazy

Just popping in to give some platonic Ash love :) she's the VS on my current ME2 run at the moment....

I really should replay ME1 for the romance right? As a femshep player, I am irked to ends that Ash was a cut romance option!!

It's pretty much the Stigma of the Human LI's now that they're so inferior to the alien ones. The decription on a piee of Liara fan art actually said "we don't play sci fi games to romance Humans am I right?" and that's just terrible. Ashley's a racist, Kaidan's a whiner, Jacob's boring, Miranda's a ****, and Jack's a psychopath. Yet we've got Garrus who whines about regulations and then about his Omega team getting wiped out, Tali who can actually try to steal Ashley's lover, Liara was obsessed with the Shadow Broker and revenge and now she's got it and is the new Shadow Broker which is pretty cool, and Thane's dying (he also owes me a new desk lol) We all know Ashley isn't a racist. She's a kind and caring woman with a love of poetry and a reasonable mistrust of aliens that learns to like them from working with them in the first game but her reaction on Horizon hurt her while bioware was shoving the shiney new romances in our face while giving Liara a supremly intresting storyline while Ashleyand Kaidan romancers get called traitors because of Liara's actions setting up the cerberus partnership. /rant.

hope that didn't get too off topic....

As much as I cannot discredit a single thing that's been said, I just can't pass judgement until this next DLC is out. And if it happens to not include the VS it will suck. But then I will simply wait for Mass Effect 3. If after all of that there is no follow up I'll throw up my hands and say, "They really did it!"

I just can't condemn the setup until the whole picture is in front of me. For all we know at this point the final act may have the most amazing reunion and healing of the relationship ever. But don't get me wrong: the lack of Ashley at this point is freakin' terrible.

Wait, when were the VSs' the "Default" canon romance? There are no default canon romances. One might be advertised more than the other(for sex appeal), but it doesn't make it superior over others.

if you play on the defalt setting the VS is your romance, not Liara and Ashley is Sheploo's romance in the books (so I've heard)

There was actually two differnt voice actors playing Ash in two of the video's of Mass effect before release, thank god they went with Brooks to voice her though. It shows how much effort Bioware put into Ash in ME1, she was so good a character that some people found her too realistic and couldn't handle her it seems. Although I dont believe that many people dislike Ash, just a couple of loud kids, who wouldn't stomach talking to a real women anyway, so they think every women is a sex object or something, pretty sad really..
Thanks for the platonic Ash love Posted Image

That would be good, as you get to fully develope her character and paragon her. It aint so bad having Ash as just a friend though, you still have alot to talk about with Ash, and there are even some lines (not many though) that only femShep has with Ash. Bioware should have thought about friendships with the LI's in ME2, they did it in ME1. I remember playing as a femshep, and she came across as a great friend, could have done with that in ME2.

No, the default in ME2 was there was no romance. She is the VS if you play male Shep, it's Kaidan if FemShep. For some reason it's Liara at the start on the Normandy of the PS3 version.

I dont care about default anyway, this is a rpg, default dosen't exist, it's what you want it to be thankfully.

I do wish Bioware would do Ash and Kaidan more justice though, they need some dlc and a big role in ME3.

Playing the game on default means that the Virmire Suvivor runs to talk to you on the Normandy but there is no romance. The game goes with the idea that you were just friends both both potential love interets.

Considering the way the plot was set up even at the beginning of ME2, it makes more sense for Liara to be the canon equivalent. Especially since she can romance either gender of Shepard.

There is no "canon" romance in Mass Effect. In fact, if anything, in any sort of 'canon' Shepard would most likely be single.

Any sort of canon comes from two things, the trailers and default Shepard. The former is simply a way to showcase what the player can do in the game. The latter is simply there in ME1 for people who just want to get into the game as quick as possible, or aren't interested in creating their own character.

There is no "canon" and there is no "canon romance".

The way I see things,a movie adaptation will be the story of the creator's Shepard, not a canonnization. And I suspect the exact manner of the events of the movie will differ, therefor make it easier to divorce one's self from their own experiences.

Should I get the chance to see a Mass Effect movie, I would view it as being no different than reading a fan comic or someone's fan fiction about their Shepard. I wouldn't view it as any more or less valid than my own, but I could enjoy it as long as it had quality.

That's how I view the situation, anyway. But I think I've gone off topic enough.

Right, there's no "canon" romance, asari aren't women, and thermal clips aren't an ammo system.

It's under a year till ME3, provided the game ships on time. I'm hoping that I will finally get closure on the relationship with Ash in there, or in this last DLC that has been announced for ME2. In many ways, you've already closed off most open ends in ME2 when you prepared for the final mission, doing LoTSB clears up that major arc as well. All of the LI's bar Ash and Kaidan have had their screen time and have moved forwards.

I'm trying to think of good ways that would reunite Ash and Shepard, but I can't think of too many things that would work out as well as LoTSB worked out. Based on her emotions, Shep and Ash need private time to talk first before anything. Jumping into a mission otherwise would probably be awkward for the both of them.

I just hope that by the end of ME3, my Shep and Ash have had a stunning story arc come to a close.

Wait a minute... asari are women. They're monogendered, not no-gendered.

You can say all asari are male just as well. The fact that they have bewbs and soft voices does not make them female, even if they look that way.

Allow me to point you to the codex, which does indeed say that the asari are all-female.
