Well she mentions her father's friend taught her marine hand to hand combat as a kid. Seeing as she is now in the Military, and a pretty good rank for a enlisted after only a few years, it seems natuaral she would keep at it, keep her skills sharp, with or without a weapon.
She also mentions how she is a straight up puncher, I guess she goes for the knockout punch, but nothing fancy.
In the ME1 playthrough I'm doing now, I've invested quite a few points in Assault Training for Ash.
I am doing this precisely because I know that her character is very well versed in marine hand to hand. If anyone gets too close to Ash in combat, they should suffer from it.
Honestly, if they could pull it off, I think some kind of hand to hand skill should be Ash's "bonus" power under the ME2 skill system. I'm not sure how to implement that in a way that would work, though. It would have to be different enough from Kasumi's bonus skill (which is kind of hand to hand, I guess) to show her as a unique character.

What do you guys think we could find in Ash/Kai's apartment?
I agree with people who say that Ash's apartment probably wouldn't have much, because she spends so much of her time on missions. Ash, I'm thinking, would maybe have some workout equipment (if she has the room). She might keep some of her medals there, and her poetry/weapons collections. I think she'd have a fairly large book collection beyond poetry, as I'm with some of the people who think that she has a secret love for sappy romance novels.
I also agree that Ash and Kaidan would prefer to live in separate areas. However, given that they seem to be assigned to Anderson, I suspect they're living on the Citadel. I imagine cost efficient housing options would be fairly limited. I can see Kaidan preferring to live on the Presidium, but I doubt he could afford it on a Marine's salary - so he'd probably be stuck in the Wards whether he likes it or not. Ash, on the other hand, would probably love living in the wards, and never even give the Presidium any thought.
Given what apartments likely cost, even in the wards, I would wonder if maybe Ash would have a roommate. I think she'd probably prefer another Alliance marine, or maybe a human or even a Turian who works for C-Sec. But if we wanted to go for an "odd couple" type scenario, I keep having a thought of her getting stuck in the same apartment as an Asari stripper because it was the only place she could find on her budget that wasn't a dump. I see that situation as being tense, and only workable due to the fact that Ash is away much of the time.
Another thought is that she might just live in marine barracks if the Alliance has set any up on the Citadel. Humans are really expanding their influence there, so I could see them setting up a housing option like that for their troops.
