After watching oth the Male and Female Shepard verisons of the PS3 comic for me1 I'm pretty surethe VS is going to get nothing. Kaidans called a good kid by both (femshep can sleep with him and she's claling him a good kid despite being 3 years her senior) Ashley's is alright saying she's a soldier to the core, but Liara gets "As beautiful as she is talented" something tells me bioware's steadily indoctrinating people to forget about the VS since you they can be killed and dont' have plot armor like T'soni. I fear for the writing She'll get in Me3 because I doubt she'll get a DLC with Kaidan. but if it happens I'll quote this post and go "oh how wrong I was"

That is true, Ashley and Kaiden get at best friendly single line descriptions that sound emotionally neutral, Liara gets talked about with such higher praise as being 'beautiful as she is intelligent'. Best Ashley gets is 'pure solider' or something like that. Certainly seems to be a bias in place.
That said it's still kind of pointless, I mean no newcomer is going to develop enough of a bond between Ashley/Kaiden/Liara if this one comic is all they get as a frame of reference, because they haven't really met the character in person nor experience any aspect of the romance. They just have it summarized for them in a few brief sentances. It's not like they aren't going to feel 'willed' to find a new love interest in the new game.
Speaking of:
I just thought I'd come clean, these last three days I have been doing a small, largely unimportant playthrough in which I both save the Collector base and romance Jack. However I chose to import a Shepard (again from a small unimportant playthrough of the original Mass Effect) to do it rather than go default because I didn't want Wrex to be dead and to have all the renegade choices in place.
I had briefly considered doing a playthrough of the original in which I didn't romance anyone to make the second one be consequence free but I didn't have the time to really blaze through both games, besides prolonged exposure to Element Williams after such a long time without would cause bouts of spontanious slobber and extended attraction. Simply put, I wouldn't be able to resist her.
So I decided to make this one single playthrough in which I showed attention to the character who had always recieved the Silver medal of romances, Jack. Basically just to give it a try, so for this playthrough and only this playthrough I had Shepard 'move on' after Horizon.
The reason I bring this up? Well while I still certainly like Jack and her romance scene pulled like a million heart strings within me, her romance still felt quite short and simplified by comparison to Ashley's, of which lasted through the whole game and had much longer conversations. Similarly while I enjoyed her romance scene (and getting to bring her up after the mission for drinks and cuddles) I found myself regretting that I wasn't going to get to see the scene where Shepard stares at Ashley's picture because I had now come to the realization that this single scene with the picture, adds a fair degree of emotional depth to everything.
So I guess what I'm saying is that going abroad and trying someone new made me realize just how great Ashley still was. I certainly still like Jack and I don't regret seeing her finally finding true love (in this particular playthrough), but ultimatley Ashley is the one I'll stick with in all my main saves to come. And it also enhances how proud I was to consider staying with her to be the 'canon' decision.
What I'm saying is that I can now say, with experience, that Ashley is still ultimatley the best romance option for me personally and I can use an actual example that I myself have experienced to certify it.
So yeah, bottom line tried something new, I liked it but it can't compare to Ashley. And subsequently has confirmed my feelings, that staying loyal to Ash is ultimatley still the right choice. Doing so made me realize, as cheesy and geeky as this sounds, that Ashley is still the best. Most long and deep dialogue and the most emotion in the final scene before the Collector mission. Basically, I've reaffired what we seem to all be in agreement of already, Ash is the best option.
So baring that in mind, here's one of my favorite Ash pictures:

Like you needed me to remind you that she's sttill the best.
EDIT: Also if my spelling seems messy or sloppy in any way, I've just spent a full day playing the game and I am very tired.

I think it's less about what is planned but more about what has come before. Assuming that most PS3 players are new to the franchise, there is not much they could have thrown in a comic to make up for the actual experience you could have with either of the characters. Remember, the dossiers aboard the SB ship? That's right, none. They can't build on a story that hasn't happened yet.
I'm still convinced that one of the 2 DLC coming will involve the VS in some form or fashion.

The YouTubers' problem with Ash is just the fact that they are intimidated by a woman who can beat them up and then recite some poetry.
I really don't know about this. All of the LIs are skilled fighters; Jack writes poetry, Miranda is a violin enthusiast, Liara probably knows a heck of a lot about various cultures... Ashley doesn't strike me as being particularly intimidating. If anyone is, it's Jack or Samara.

If you chose Ash as your LI, you will get a tiny, tiny picture of her standing miles away, instead of up close like Liara does, and behind the desk in the debriefing room. I imagine it'll be the same for Kaidan.
Here's the link in case you're interested.

I cant believe Bioware have pissed me off this much this year, im quiclkly losing ALOT of respect for them. Bioware used to be my favourite developer, emphasis on the ''used to be'' part.
How they have treated the Ash and Kaidan fans this year has been beyond a joke, unfair, and actually makes me start to dislike the ME series, as I was lead to believe in ME1 my dicisons mattered, (wasn't that one of the biggest selling points?).
And apparenlty Bioware are trying to tell us ''we picked the wrong choice'' Pitty as Ash and Kaidan are the only characters that actually had any realism to them, the two characters I could actually relate to.

Virmire, I think, was a huge blow to both characters, or maybe just Kaidan. It forced them into a position where they would be effectively interchangeable, and therefore could never get as much individual development as, say, Liara.
Also, why were they the only ones with any realism?

As they felt like the only characters in both ME's that I could relate to. Most of the other characters seemed like they were written by marvel, having a squad of super hero's. I know Kaidan is a biotic, but it wasn't over done for him, and he suffered migraines becuase of it.

Yep. Didn't know Ash and Shep were on the sr2 during ME1. Dang hundreds and hundreds of hours playing ME1 and I never noticed.

Hey we can't all be great artists, buddy. Some of us have to rely on the blurry grainy effects to cover our mistakes.
