Let's face it, those of us who want Shep and Ash to get back together got totally screwed. Let's just hope it was an intentional screwing to set us up for an awesome emotional conclusion between them in ME3. If they shortchange us, it will suck.

Reed you are so funny, that's exactly what I did too - I must have fought that final Horizon battle 100 times just to try to run through every possible dialogue choice trying to see if there was a way to make it work, something I missed.

I'm sure that's exactly what we ALL did!!! I was like... HOW CAN YOU JUST LEAVE IT LIKE THAT SHEPARD!??! FREAKIN IDIOT!!!! .... let's try this again... and again... FAIL.
Then you get the email and you can't even respond!!?? Not even to tell her that you still care for her and that you acted like a dope b/c really it was only like two days to you... something... ANYTHING!? =/
As for what's up next.... I fully expect and plan on it being a huge let down that does nothing but sadden me more... something like another cameo like horizon. If it isn't I will be more than pleasently surprised! AND IT WILL BE AWESOME! XD

I have a Rendezvous with Death
by Alan Seeger
I have a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.
It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath
It may be I shall pass him still.
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope of battered hill,
When Spring comes round again this year
And the first meadow-flowers appear.
God knows 'twere better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down,
Where Love throbs out in blissful sleep,
Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath,
Where hushed awakenings are dear...
But I've a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some flaming town,
When Spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.

With Ash being so fond of poetry, I think it would be awesome if she recited part of Rendezvous before the final battle.
*poem snip*
This gives me an idea for a question:
What poem do you think Ash would/should be thinking of/reciting before the final battle?
Although I like your selection, Aedan, I'm an AE Housman fan myself, so I've got to go with:
'Tis five years since, `An end,' said I;
`I'll march no further, time to die.
All's lost; no worse has heaven to give.'
Worse has it given, and yet I live.
I shall not die to-day, no fear:
I shall live yet for many a year,
And see worse ills and worse again,
And die of age and not of pain.
When God would rear from earth aloof
The blue height of the hollow roof,
He sought him pillars sure and strong,
And ere he found them sought them long.
The stark steel splintered from the thrust,
The basalt mountain sprang to dust,
The blazing pier of diamond flawed
In shards of rainbow all abroad.
What found he, that the heavens stand fast?
What pillar proven firm at last
Bears up so light that world-seen span?
The heart of man, the heart of man.
Not only is it an awesome poem, but everyone who thinks Ash is racist will also be happy with the last bit!

If you're like me, you want to know what happens between Ash and Shepard in ME3 as soon as you can find out. But, to find something out before the game is released could spoil the experience of it when the game finally comes out. For example, I couldn't wait for Dead Space 2 to come out and about a week before it did someone found and posted the first 15 minutes of gameplay on Youtube. I watched it and was happy because I had been waiting a while for the game and now I was finally seeing how it started, but when I actually got the game I really didn't enjoy the first 15 minutes because I knew what would happen.
So how about it Ash fans...will you try to read the news, rumors and trailers of ME3 prior to its release with the possibility of spoiling the role Ash plays in the game, or exhibit the kind of self-discipline only monks have and try to not find anything out about ME3?
EDIT: Milla - you can't write a chapter like that! I mean end it the way you did! I mean of course you can but if you're going to do that you need to write the next chapter stat!! GJ

To answer your question.. I will most definately stay away from any and all spoilers. It will be hard, but worth it when I finally get my hands on a copy of my very own and get to discover the (hopefully positive) outcome of the Shep/Ash 'situation' and of course... everything else that has me wondering what's next for ME.

Personally, I hate spoilers about everything - movies, tv, games... So I will do my best to avoid any ME3 information, no matter how curious I get (I will become a monk if I have to!). Having said that, I do watch game trailers as they almost tell us nothing about the story of the game, especially a game like ME with so many options (and the game cinematics these days are absolutly beautiful).
The only thing that I wouldn't mind to find out is Ashly being on Shepard's squad as a playable character. BUT, if i'll find out that she will be getting the ME2-treatment before I get my hands on ME3, I would be really dissapointed, as this is one of the main things I hope for for ME3.
P.S. I'm new

Man, spoilers...I want to avoid them, but I can never help myself. Even now, the holiday season seems so far away, and I'm sure nothing of much interest will come out until the very end. We really have no idea what's to become of Ashley (and Kaidan), and it's...a bit disheartening. So I generally prefer to stay on the lookout for some reassuring info.

I think my main dislike of her character is that she is still very aggressive in her way of showing her opinions though, the same way that despite me understanding while Jack is messed up she doesn't evoke a whole lot of sympathy in her behaviour.
This makes her a lot harder to pick as a love interest in comparison to slightly gentler characters such as Liara and Tali. Although I suppose it does add some depth to her as she is outwardly quite prickly but nicer once you get to know her, whereas Liara and Tali just seem to be somewhat affectionate towards you straight away.
That's not to say that I actively dislike her, there are many aspects of her character that I admire, it's just that she seems very unapproachable and her mistrust of non-humans is a little hard to get along with for people who are fond of the other races in the game.
Just my 2 cents.
I also support the idea that she needs to be a real character in Mass Effect 3 rather than a cameo in Mass Effect 2, but I think that's pretty much guaranteed.

Thanks for stopping by Machines, I admit I might not agree with some of your points but I do appreciate your honesty and that you can express positive things as well.
It's your opinion and you have the right to it and frankly you are much more level headed then some... other.... posters we've had stop by here, so that's a plus.
Thanks for the support in any case and thanks for stating your views in a respectful and calm manner.

Just the part about how she can seem unnapproachable at times, I personally never had that problem with her. Every now and then the conversations would go down a difficult road but for the most part it was never a problem.
At least for me.
The parts about her being prickly at first I actually agree with and personally list as among the reasons why I like her so much.
But again I can sort of see where you are coming from in that respect. I guess it's another case of different strokes for different folks.

Hmmm, I guess I should clarify what I mean. It's not that you cannot approach her because she hold you at arms length or anything; it's more that a lot of the time the things she talks about are conversations where I had very differing view points from her and so I felt somewhat reluctant to get into a conversation knowing that I am probably going to end up slightly annoyed with her.
Simply put, I have a differing viewpoint and know it, so don't want to end up in a conflict. I guess that's more in a re-run though, I never had that issue the first time when I didn't know what her views are.
That said, I shouldn't really worry about that as minor arguments in conversations do not seem to be 'flagged' for future reference in imported games, only the major decisions. (romance, side-quests etc.)
EDIT: On a side-note, is it made clear what makes Ashley change her mind about being in a relationship with Shepard when at the beginning she is very much "No fraternisation"?

Spoilers, well I will only read to see how large a role she has, if its a tiny one then I dont think I will bother to buy the game tbh. But I try and stay clear of plot spoilers.
@Lawp79 I completely agree with you in principle, but I don't think it's as easy as saying I'm only going to look for role information while avoiding plot spoilers. I think the choice is either you actively seek information or you don't. Mainly because it's impossible to un-read something. Say for example you're reading on a forum about ME3, trying to find how large a role Ashley has in it, and you come across this post: "My friend at Bioware told me that Ashley will be making a cameo right before your mission to the Reaper flagship, but because they were having a dispute with the voice talent they didn't give her a lot of lines." You can't really un-read that and you'll buy the game knowing part of it is you'll be visiting a Reaper flagship.
I was going to use as an example "My friend at Bioware says if you stayed faithful you'll be able to get back together with Ashley" but to be honest - even though reading that in advance would reduce the awesomeness of finding that out in-game - it would put my mind at ease a little and I could play the game not having to hold my breath the entire time wondering if there will be a good reunion.

I think it was mostly because they had already commited mutiny, stolen the Normandy and were about to face the greatest threat the galaxy had ever known. With all that in mind one can probably understand why she wasn't worried about breaking one more rule. Especially when you consider that after a career being sidelined by the Alliance and having to fight to get what she wanted, and this could be the last time she ever gets a chance to get what she wants (i.e to finally pursue and consumate her relationship with Shepard) so she let regulations slip.
At least that's how I always percieved it.

I understand and agree with you, I did manage to avoid spoilers for me2 but I also managed to find out that Ashley only had a small role, I also found out that in the eyes of an Ashley fan it was a disspointing and that is genuinely all I knew going into me2 (not bad considering I had it on release day in the UK). In a way it prepared me for it otherwise I think my upset would have gotten me a ban from these forums lol. Up until I found that mini spoiler regarding ash I was convinced she would be a squad mate and we would pick up from where she and shep left off (I also knew shep was dead but I think that was from a trailer) so in a way it softened the blow.

Definatly The Charge of the Light Birgade by Alfred Tennyson.
Half a league half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred:
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns' he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd ?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley'd & thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.
Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turn'd in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army while
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack & Russian
Reel'd from the sabre-stroke,
Shatter'd & sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While horse & hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder'd.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Retour en haut
