I want to read this, i've read a lot of positive feedback.  I won't read it
till i'm done with my fic though.  I'm way too easily distracted.  

I'm totally the same way.  In fact I sometimes don't get around to reading other Ash fics sadly, mostly because of time.    I have read a little of yours and really like it.  Would love to actually finish it.

Having just read a summary of the second issue in the TIM-comic, Bioware have apperently retconned  something about Ashley's grandfather and Shanxi. According to the comic Gen.Williams was pissed over the alliance's ceasefire with the Turians and felt they should have continued fighting instead of just playing nice with the aliens. This was also the reason for why he left the alliance.

So what are peoples feelings on this? Doesn't exactly help improve the image regarding Ashley not being a racist does it?

It dosen't help it, but it doesn't make her look racist, as that would be her grandfathers opinion and not her opinion. It dosen't matter really, I just think it's stupid what Walters has done, and as far as i'm concerned the comics aren't canon. The only thing canon about Mass effect to me is the playthrough I do, I couldn't care any less about the books, the movie and comics. I wont buy any of that crap other than the games.
 
I am really worried about the story for ME3, and how they will treat Ash now, I hope they do her and the series justice.

it sounds like a cover up to me. I'm reserving my judgement until the comic thing is over. I'll bet it was covered up to say that he surrendered and left the allaince rather than the allaince admitting that one of their generals wasn't on board with cooperating with other species. that's just me though, I can see half the boards are in an Udina like OUTRAGE over this. I am glad that it doens't have any effect on Ashley's character since it's her grandfather and not her.

I don't blame General Williams for feeling the way he did. He'd been fighting a guerilla war against the turians for a long time before the turians started leveling entire city blocks to get a single fire team.

General Williams was forced to surrender. He'd have fought on otherwise. No general worth his salt would swallow defeat easily, or meekly accept a cease fire when he was sure he could win a victory. To use a human analog, consider General MacArthur's dismissal as commander-in-chief in the Korean War. Great generals also have great egos...

I don't have much trouble with General Williams' "rectconning" in Evolution as I already expected something like that when Ash first told Shep about him in ME1... Ash, being a NCO and not having really known her grandfather, may be just stating the truth as she knows it.

I'm not just talking about his desire to fight on at Shanxi (that's understandable) but the whole "We should continue the war" as in let's escalating it to all-out war, putting Earth and Mankind at risk. That's suicidal.
