I love that screenie. Indigo did a hilarious caption which I must find.
This could be between missions, they're just lounging about in the engine room; Engineer Adams is smooching Tali off-screen, and Ashley and Liara are comparing notes to determine how good a kisser Shepard is.
EDIT: Here it is

Maybe it's because after having finally gotten used to hearing people yell at me:
"OI YOU STOOPID ELITE I AM GOING TO RIP YOUR HEAD OFF AND STICK IT DOWN THE BOTTOM OF MY TOILET SO WHENEVER I SH*T I'LL SH*T ON YOUR SQUIDLIPPED HEAD!"
Hearing Ashley calmly and rationally say:
"I don't think we should turn down aliens as allies just no bet everything on them staying as allies."
Just really doesn't sound as extreme.
In any case, it's a reason why whenever I hear gamers, the people who are a part of a medium that kills on average seventy aliens before breakfast every morning in the name of entertainment, to suddenly get preachy about someone having trust issues with aliens all I can think is:
"Hyporcrites."
But still that's just my view, no need to spread it around.
Anyway as for Ashley's views on the Alliance and aliens in general, I do actually percieve it as a character flaw. Her family history influencing her current career and resulting in her developing a very cynical attitude as a result of it, fortunatley it's nowhere near as extreme as true racism if you ask me. It's much more the attitude of a practical rationalist with a hint of bitterness added to it.
To reflect, Ashley doesn't condone the idea of mistreating alien races or that humans are superior. And while she thinks humans shouldn't rely on alien assistance as a given, she also doesn't like the groups who think humans should oppose all forms of alien influence (Terra Firma). She also had no problem going under the command of Kirrahe and working with the Salarians and in fact, volunteered for the job.
As it stands, Ashley never really WAS a true racist, she just had bad family history and lack of personal experience, hence she was more likely to be defensive.
As for how her Grandfather retired in the Evolution comic well, I can assume that this would come as a shock to Ashley who would have to realize that she had been lied to about the true nature of why her family name was blacklisted. After all her conversation in Mass Effect 1 on the subject suggested to me that General Williams was forced to surrender and then was just quietly pushed aside as a result of it.
If she found out that he had actively wanted to continue the war and had left willingly, then maybe it would give her new perspective on this entire situation, make her less likely to want to redeem her family name and make it less likely for her to still hold any grudge against Turians and the Council.... even though we have already done all this in Mass Effect 1.
Let's not forget how much of a change would occur to her character if she discovered that her grandfather founded, or at least helped to found, Cerberus. The organization that she despises.
Yep, if done right this could be a great moment of character development on the part of Ashley as she learns more about her family's past then she knew before.
Then again, they could just decide to 'retcon' everything and have her just go back to being 'the racist b*tch' like everyone keeps chanting that she is, which would really.... really suck.

I like how Ashley has her helmet on, with the thick visor, inside the ship. Like she's too cool for this conversation.

@V-rex: We had literally just *finished* talking about that. Now it's Ash pic time.
True, but I really enjoyed his post and it rings so true.
Not to mention, it was mostly all about Ashley. So therefor, also on-topic.

Reasons I like Ash as a character:
1) If you're an Alliance Marine, don't kid yourself: you'll be fighting aliens. Best not get too friendly with people you may be forced to fight against... be cautious allies. Ash is there to remind YOU, Commander Shepard N7 Alliance Marine, what you originally signed up for when you accepted that commission.
2) She illustrates culture-shock quite accurately, something many humans in ME likely suffer from. Culture-shock is a well documented subject. Ashley is portraying a "rejector" quite well. It makes the whole notion of humans meeting aliens more believable to see culture shock portrayed in game.
3) While Cerberus may claim to work for the survival of humanity against the Reapers and beyond, their methods are obviously unrestricted by such "mundane" concerns as ethics, morality or compassion for individuals. Ash happens to care about those values, and this offers great dramatic possibilities in ME3, should Gen. Williams turn out to have been involved.

I actually really enjoy DAO...it's the reason I gave ME a try. However, I'd suggest taking this discussion elsewhere to keep the thread on-topic.
Technically that's correct, and that thought went through my head, but the reason I asked it here was because I have come to value the opinions of those who have been posting in this thread. But thank you for offering an answer to the question in your statement as opposed to just trying to pretend to be a forum rent-a-cop. Thanks also to those who PM'ed me their opinion, really appreciate it.
Great job all with the great pics, keep 'em coming. And Milla, Badpie keep the great writing coming too!
