I find Ashley's romance better than the others because it's hard to draw a line and say "Here, this is where the romance starts." I don't look at my Shepard's interactions with her and pick out which are the romance lines and which aren't, because most of it flows together in a very natural, progressing way.
I'm not sure that I agree. That sort of obliqueness, I find, almost makes the romance itself seem less significant--or possibly not that, but less about love and more of a friends-with-benefits situation. Liara's frankness, while surprising, was also refreshing to me.
Though possibly I should leave before this turns into an actual argument, which I don't want to start; I'm only interested in why you have the opinions you do.

We seek different things from romances, I suppose. Nothing wrong with that.

The reason I prefer the Ashley romance is simply that I prefer Ashley, to be honest. It's hard to put reasons behind chemistry, and that was exactly what it boiled down to for my Sheps - it just felt right. Every Shepard I made fit so well with Ashley and felt more complete because of what she was able to bring to the relationship, which is exactly how I picture a good, healthy relationship to be. There's an element of symbiosis in most relationships, and I felt that Ashley and my Shepards complemented and augmented each other in ways that would not have been possible with the other LIs. I guess that's why I like to explore that dynamic, in the ways that it both works and doesn't, in my fanfic.
That aside, when I started an ME2 new game in order to romance Jack, I built a character to work for Jack - and I don't think that Shepard would have been the best fit for Ash. I suppose the characters I'm most likely to create and RP are all built of a similar mold to a degree, and that mold just works with Ashley as the LI.

and silver.... omfg! I LOVE your fanart!!! XD XD XD
About Ashley, I always find myself romancing her with a DudeShep, no matter what I set out to do. It's like everyone has said... she just grabs you and draws you in.
It's the little smile she gives in the med bay after eden prime... it's the way she fights for what she wants... how she's a proud individual... her sense of humor... the comments she makes about politicians ..... her sense of duty as a soldier .... that's she's a family girl ... how you can tell she has that feminine side even though she pretends she doesn't .... it's everything about her! lol
It just feels like my Shepard belongs with her from the start.
EDIT: @ Rdubs .... you better be uploading a custom Ash avatar!

Rdubs: Here's some instructions that Istoleborrowed from the Kaidan thread. They worked for me. Good luck! Hope you get your very own Ashatar soon.... or whatever else you want!

Thanks Silver. I made a picture in 146x146 PNG but then saw you need the PC version of the game to upload your picture. I am playing ME and ME2 on the xbox. So I guess I'm out of luck on this one. I uploaded the pic to my album under "my content" but don't see a way to make it your profile pic from there. Oh well! Thanks for trying to help, if I had the PC version I'm sure it would work.

I kid though, I mean they are obviously just posing for the sake of the photo and in real life are just platonic friends.... right? Right?
But still yes, great picture. Ashley looks so sleek and beautiful.

the way kaiden and Ashley are posed in the picture makes me think of it as more of a dream sequence. In my own imagination the first thing i thought of when i saw your amazing art Chignon was that it could be a representation of a dream that a guilt ridden Ashley is having about her friend Kaiden who was lost on Virmire. He kisses her on the forehead as if to say, "it's ok honey.. Don't beat yourself up." and her nakedness could represent her own vulnerability for the situation. It took me about 2 seconds to draw this as my own conclusion, and although this may not be what you were going for, I think it's just stunning.
Do you want to know something? I like your interpretation just as much as my own, if not better. Thank you so much for sharing, Milla!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I realise the risk was heavy doing this picture, but the prize~!
If Ash fanart is the prize, then the risk is always worth it!
